Probably because iPhones are getting bigger and bigger.

That might explain a certain degree of cannibalized sales, but I think that an entry level tablet and an iPhone appeal to different audiences.

I see almost no competition in the small tablet sector and that might be a reason why there hasn’t been a more up to date iPad mini for years.

I decided to keep my second Mini 4 that I purchased within a day of one another too! I have not open it at all! I get two Mini 4s for around $500 not including sales tax. I really like the Mini 4 for media consumption. It lightweight, the right size for my needs and I can take it anywhere too.

But why would you need two? Better off selling the other for a profit, could pay for a chunk of your other one.

Of my many devices, I’d say my mini 4 gets the most screen time. It’s simply the best device out there for reading and all around misc consumption and quick tasks. It still works well considering its age, but it is very overdue for an update. I saw a lady buying one on Black Friday. I felt a little torn because I wanted to tell her not to buy it, but then again it lets Apple know it’s still in demand.

I think the 8" form factor is perfect for media consumption like magazines and news. I really wanted an updated Mini as I am loath to buy old tech, but I gave up waiting.

In its place, I got a Huawei MediaPad M5 8.4" with LTE. I don't like the aspect ratio as much as the mini, but its fast, light and pretty smooth with Oreo. Would have rather had an updated Mini, but so far I'm pretty happy with it.

I like this because if enough people go with a competitor (as opposed to buying an Apple device of less desirable size), it gives Apple motivation to update.

The mini is a favorite for many, many people. It's extremely capable.

It isn't quite immersive enough for me though. I'm loving pro. Should I ever feel the need for a smaller unit to replace it or to work alongside it, I would simply get the current air at that time.

I love the Mini. An upgraded Mini with a current processor and an edge-to-edge screen like the iPad Pro would be a dream device for me.
