Hm. It must be a good card after all: we seem to have lost MagicThief to his/her new iMac.... ;)

I'm amazed!

Lol, I (a male lol) am still here, actually posting this on my brand spanking new iMac as I just finished unboxing it right now. It's gorgeous! I actually was supposed to have it delivered on the 20th, but Fedex was too lazy to deliver it that day as they were "too busy and their volume was too high," so they just left it sitting on the truck for delivery the next day. Come the next day, they stated "they attempted delivery but no one was home," which is a blatant lie because someone was, and when I called Fedex to complain, they said they couldn't deliver the package because Apple failed to include the unit number of the apartment number of the shipping address, which is also another clear lie because: 1) How could the driver say he attempted delivery but no one was home, yet not know which apartment he was delivering to ; and 2) being that I had to rent a car and drive to the Fedex station myself to pickup my package because I didn't want to continue to rely on the inefficiency and unreliability of Fedex to deliver my package, as the next slated attempt for delivery would've been the 24th, I discovered the box clearly stated my correct shipping address and apartment number, yet according to Fedex, Apple failed to provide them with this information. As you can see, I've been quite busy with this whole fiasco! All in all, I'm just grateful to have this beautiful machine, and so far, it's in perfect condition i.e., no backlight bleed or dead pixels. I'm happy I went with the 21.5" because it fits perfectly with my workstation. After setting up the 21.5", I now see the 27" would have definitely been too large! I'll be sure to post some benchmarks soon! By the way, I was able to get Apple to credit me the expedited shipping fee because of this huge ordeal with Fedex :D

World of warcraft

The gt 650m gives me fluid game play at good settings

60 fps in wolrd or when questing
45 fps in a 25 man raid fight.
30 to 60 fps in cities, depending on traffic

This are a few lag glitches that are still being investigated by blizzard.

That's it? Seems like it should be better, I can play on good settings on my MBP13 with Intel HD 3000 and get around 60fps.

When I used to play WOW it was the worst optimised game for Windows and Mac in the world. The graphics aren't particular good but even the best gpu can't manage ultra settings and keep 60 fps all the time.

Quick update: finished my time machine restore, installed Boot Camp, and downloading steam titles now. Will be sure to post some benchmarks later on today. I must admit, for a 5400 rpm drive, Windows loads rather quickly on the Boot Camp partition. I'm really happy I opted for Fusion Drive as it makes the system feel a whole lot snappier.

Are you gaming in Bootcamp or OSX? What are your settings? Those FPS seems very good!

The base iMac has the GT 640M, the higher end model has the GT 650M, and the base 27 inch model has the GTX 660M.

Looking forward to seeing your benchmarks OP.

I could care less too! I care a lot. My maxed 21.5 will arrive about new-years. Thanks for posting this stuff.
:p

Congratulations on your new iMac! Looking forward to your impressions!

Borderlands!

First benchmark with Borderlands with native resolution and all settings on high gave me roughly 40-50 FPS, and this was with AA enabled. Mind you this is in Boot Camp and I'm using the latest Geforce drivers from Nvidia. If I lowered the resolution to 1366 x 768 and kept the full settings (with AA 16X), I got a consistent 60 FPS! I'm really amazed with this card and how well it performs, despite being branded as a "mediocre" card. Other games such as Bastion, Dark Souls, and Hotline Miami, all run fluidly at max settings. I'm still in the process of downloading the heavy hitters, with more impressions to follow soon! :D

On a side note, if you are running Windows 7, when you install the OS updates, uninstall the crap that is the Bing Desktop search bar! It was causing graphical glitches with Steam, especially Borderlands, where I couldn't run the game in full screen mode and I could only run it windowed. Also, whenever I would adjust the resolutions, it would cause all sorts of graphical glitching and tearing, and would minimize the game and keep it that way. As soon as I uninstalled the Bing desktop bar, all those issues vanished! Whew! And to think I was close to uninstalling and re installing Borderlands.

Seeing as to how everyone is ranting and raving about the 27" iMac and 680MX benchmarks, and could care less about the GT 650M, I've decided to show the 21.5" some love as once my 21.5" iMac arrives this week with the GT 650M, I'll run a battery of tests to see how it handles the latest and greatest titles! By the way, the Steam Winter Holiday Sale begins this 20th and runs until January 4th. I'll also try to upload some YouTube vids of the iMac's 650M in action. Now I know no one really cares about the 650M, as you're all still busy gawking and fawning over your 27 inchers and the 680MX benchmarks, but I still think it'll make for an interesting discussion nonetheless. Hopefully my system will arrive this Thursday, and I'll try to have some results posted come time this Saturday or Sunday. By the way, Apple really expedited the shipping on my order, as I ordered it on the 9th, with an expected delivery between the Dec. 21-27. However, it went to preparing for shipment and shipped on the same day, and should be delivered by the 20th! If no one cares, too bad, because I do! ;) :p To think I almost waited an entire year for the new iMac is just insane (Have been waiting since last February), and I'm excited to be a proud first time iMac owner!

Read Barefeats.com and find the earliest benchmarks;

Barefeats initial testing 21" from Dec 1st
Barefeats graphic testing 21"

I am interesting in moving to Mac.

I want the 21.5 iMac model as the 27 is quite large for me.

I am troubled about GPU (GT 650 m) performance.

I play very few games but they are quite demanding (flight simulators)

I am specifically interested in IL-2 sturmovic: cliffs of dover.

Could anyone PLEASE test it and report the results???

Thanks in advance for every reply.

The way I see it, the 21.5" is powerful enough for the average person who likes to casually game, although it can handle current titles at respectable resolutions and frame rates. I was running Max Payne 3 on high settings and averaging 40-60 FPS. Diablo 3 at max resolution with high details gave me +70FPS. The GT 650 suits my gaming needs as I don't need to game at ultra resolutions and details in order to enjoy the game. The 27" is definitely too big for my setup, and now that I've had enough time to play with the 21.5", it is by no means a small size and is comfortable enough of a viewing angle from where I sit and how it sits on my desk. If you need raw performance and have the desk space to spare, then get the high end 27". But the 21.5" is by no means a dud!

Hi all,

Has anyone had a chance to try Witcher 2 yet? Probably only possibly in Bootcamp, but can the 650M run it?

Will be benchmarking that soon! So far every game runs well. Hitman and GTA IV run decently (30-40 FPS) but need to tweak the settings a bit more for more optimal frame rates.

Excellent - thank you! Glad to hear it's running things so well!

The 650M performs well for a mid tier laptop GPU. With that in mind, some games are able to handle native res and play reasonably well, while others require toning down the settings such as decreasing the res and details i.e., Max Payne 3, Hitman, GTA IV. Like I've mentioned before, the card suits my gaming needs fine as I'm perfectly happy with the 21.5" real estate. If you're looking to max every game out at native resolution then you may be disappointed but for gaming at good resolutions with decent settings, the GT 650M does fine. I've found MSAA and shadows to murder frame rates; if you lower those and then you'll see increased performance.
