    iMac 6,1 24", A1200, manufactured after 23-Jan-2007
    2.1 GHz Core2 Duo T7300
    Nvidia GeForce 7300GT

    Hardware upgrades:
    Cloned 250 GB disk to 640 GB disk (using Linux dd)
    Upgraded memory to 2x2GB PC5300 DDR2 RAM

    Software upgrades:
    OSX 10.6.2 -> 10.6.8

    Next steps:

    Purchased El Capitan, installed it
    Downloaded MacPostFactor+2.0.1+Release.dmg
    Downloaded Macosxbootloader v3.1 from

    Should I stop now or upgrade from USB into a second partition?

    I have the same machine, I haven’t put El Capitan on it since the graphics card does not support hardware acceleration, rendering the machine virtually unusable.

    Mountain lion works on it like a charm, and is the latest OS I would recommend for this setup.

    Apple AppStore refuses to download Mountain Lion. At option boot, the system refuses to install from a USB that was created from an image downloaded from a MacBookPro.
    If you have a recipe or suggestions for altering a Mountain Lion install image (plist editing, perhaps?) I would very much appreciate a link to the 'how-to'.

    You have to place the ML installer in your application folder, then open Macpostfactor and continue the installation. It will handle it from there :) for more info, see:
