My suggestions for the new iMac line were:

17" iMac G5 1.6/ 533 MHz FSB/ FX5200 64MB --> iMac G5 1.8/ 600 MHz FSB/ FX5200 64 MB (all 256 MB RAM)
17" iMac G5 1.8/600FSB/FX64/ 256 RAM --> 20" iMac G5 2GHz/600FSB/Option for 128VRAM (Radeon 9600?)/512 RAM
20" iMac G5 1.8/600FSB/FX64/256RAM --> 23" HD iMac G5 2GHz/700FSB/Standart 128 VRAM + option for Rad9800 or X800 256 MB VRAM/512 RAM

Very optimistic isnt it? :rolleyes: :D
I would still buy the one with 17 inch screen. 20 is so expensive... :(

These rumors by a trusted source add to the credibility of the page 2 rumor about the upgraded powermacs/books because Apple wouldn't let their pro line of machines be matched or passed by the consumer lines. therefore, they would have to upgrade the low-end powermac to 2Ghz and the low-end powerbook to 1.67 or higher. IMHO :)

Upgrading the low end PowerMac to at least 2.0GHz is very likely, but upgrading the PBooks to at least 1.67GHz or higher is doubtful since Apple updated them not too long ago.

Of course, it would be a good idea IMO if Apple did update the PB's so that they could differential the PBs from the iBooks since the iBooks are expected to be updated soon. I'm afraid the iBook and the PB will be too similar. Apple really needs to put the "power" back into their PowerBook line.

There has to be an upgraded graphics card.

You can bet there will be one for the iMac G5 - with the graphic intensity of Tiger, and the (possible) advent of a HD display, you'll need SOMETHING with a bit of guts to run them both...

Even if the new iMac DOESN'T have a HD display, Apple must have addressed customer/potential customer dissatisfaction with the lack of a useful GPU - especially in the age of more demanding applications and games..

After all - "2005 is the year of High Definition...", according to Uncle Steve.

so by "next month" do they mean tomorrow?
AppleInsider's latest story was posted March 30th, and specified April without saying if it was to be early or late April or any particular day. They also predicted April releases of iMacs and eMacs in a story posted earlier in March.

Welcome updates if they happen a 1.55 ghz cpu sounds good but i bet they might have a few tricks up there sleeves lol maybe dare i say ? G5 1.55 Ghz 64mb of Graphics ? and a rubbish 256 mb of ram as always

well the G4 is long in the tooth LOL

Wtf! :eek: :eek: Maybe i should cancel my ibook on the way. Oh wait its already shipped! Dang man this sucks. Upgraded gpu as soon as i ordered another ibook. Just my luck. Looks like not to much else has changed though.

Please... please... please... Apple...

...increase the basic ram in the iBook.

I will be first in line. :)
Uhhhh why? You can get a 256 stick from crucial for like 35 dollars haha.

The Mac merry-go-round is picking up pace and I am ready to jump on.....again. I will be really miffed if the Power Macs are over looked again and having the consumer line equal or over take the pro line will only add to my pain. :mad:

(holds out a G5 tower) 'Please Sir, can I have some more?'

23" HD iMac must be gigantic and gorgeous machine :cool:
well i can see a 23" version in the pipeline as well 30" maybe a bit too big though but 23 would be great for HD work - also just think of how many iMacs HD's and PowerBook 17" HD's they will sell to all them budding film people ---- cha cha ching $$$

The AppleInsider report says 1.5GHz for the iBook, not 1.55GHz. That makes more sense (1.5GHz) as 1.55GHz is a very odd speed.

And as far as the recent (April delivery?) rumors, we can't forget the rumor about Apple producing a new two-button mouse. That's just about the last "holy-cow" left at Apple. It would actually be good timing to release a new "pro" mouse (two button) with the next revision of the Power Mac. It might also persuade a lot more people to buy an Apple mouse and keyboard with their Mac mini.

Also, with the increased production of the larger TFT screens (HD or not) will hopefully push down the price on stand alone TFT's. :)

True - LCD screen prices have been coming down more and more.

i can see Apple dropping the price of the 20" to £499 - 23 to £849 and 30" to £1499

it's not a case of will they ? they have to ! to compete with the likes of Dell TFT's (which many of you own)

I hope so. After I have purchased my new G5 power Mac I will be gunning for an Apple monitor........the bigger the better. :)

People seem to have missed this quote from Apple Insider about the iBooks:

though sources warned they may not surface until slightly later in the season.

I'd only bet if I felt like losing money. 2005 could be the Year of Super-Duper Video Cards in All Apple Consumer Models and Free Candy from Steve, and I'd still be worried that the impending iMac revision would come up short.

Just before the RevA appeared, the prevailing mindset on most forums was, "No way could they put that crusty old GPU that they've been using for the past two years in flashy new iMac." Ah, but they did. And people cited inventory, nVidia deals, heat and size as the reasons why -- which still doesn't change the fact that it's a subpar GPU.

Despite all this, it sold. And sold. And Walt Mossberg and a gaggle of press pundits praised it to high heaven. This being the case, Apple may see no reason to change a darn thing except the bare minimum.

Nice.

But would the new iMac solve the current problems :confused:
Also new GPU's: ya bring it on ;)

Widescreen

With everything going HD, isn't it time for all Powerbooks and iBooks to have widescreens? Square is so square. My bro just got a Dell 700m with the new 12" widescreen; amazing the difference a rectangle makes. What really amazes me is why Apple wasn't first to market with this? :confused:
