? it was 20 years ago today, jobs announced iMac with a floating display,
They've been going in and out of style
But they're guaranteed to raise a smile
So may I introduce to you
The act you've know for all these years
An articulated monitor stand that doesn’t cost a grand ?

Best iMac design they have ever done, current iMac is colorful but still kinda boring. They could easily do a similar design using the XDR stand.
Except if they did this today everyone would complain at how ENORMOUS the bezel was!

Came across this video. The whole designing process. It’s a good video to watch.

“You can achieve so much when you focus”

I didn't realised that he also designed the Newton. This was a fantastic machine.

Now we must also remember that Ive was working on the industrial design, but there were also people on the hardware design and on the software design. They are all together part of the magic of Apple.

The 17" iMac G4 was my very first Mac computer. It was also called the daisy. I saw that when it was released and could not resist buying one. It was so cool and different. I used that for several years, 3 years. I replaced it with a 20" iMac G5.

The new iMac with the M1 could be on an ARM like this iMac G4.
Hopefully the display won’t need to be physically attached to the computer in the new Mac. What we need is a new adjustable display with built-in smart TV functionality, battery, and wireless connection to a new Mini with battery.

Apple needs to bring a smaller version on that arm back to the iMac too. The design right now is an amazing updated throwback to the original with the style, color and personality. But SO many want height adjustment.

Apple could release an AppleBerry, a bare Raspberry type device with connectors for i/O daughtercards and you could put your own Mac in pretty much anything. :)

It’s such an absolutely stunning design. I’d buy one like it today in a heartbeat. The photos don’t do justice to it in the flesh, especially how that arm moved the screen.

Crazy how short-lived it was, only 2 and a half years before it was replaced by the unibody G5, a much less interesting design, though one that has influenced the iMac significantly until the present.

With the M1 inside it now, pretty much everything that held the G4 back 2 decades ago is gone! Style finally meets speed ?

Here‘s a little video for anyone wondering if the arm still works! Still as smooth as ever!

I still have mine and regularly put it out in my office just for fun. I can't tell you how many people have commented on it and thought it was a new product. ?Still works!

10.2 Jaguar, iDVD, iPhoto, iMovie ... those were the days.
