My G5 iMac has shipped!!! Order placed at 8 am eastern time on August 31. 17” 512mb 80GB. FedEx says it’s coming from China and that it left on Monday. I should have it by 10:30 am on Thursday the 16th.

Computer coming from China? Is this normal?

Yes , my mom's emac was made in china, perhaps these are too.

Also, mine shipped today even though they said the 29th:

Heard a rumor from friends inside Apple Cupertino that Steve J. plans to dress up in Fedex uniform and deliver the first iMac that will be shipped here in northern California. Anyone else heard anything like this? Ya gotta hand it to old Steverino when it comes to marketing panache! Talk about a tactic to build early anticipation and buzz!

That will be a very exciting moment for a very lucky new iMac owner. Should make an advertising campaign from the delivery. Wonder if he will give an autograph and stay while they setup the iMac. Nothing like the personal touch from the CEO.

Maybe...just Maybe...

I ordered a 20" stock ram and hard drive, but I BTO'd the Bluetooth and Airport Extreme.

Well, I just checked my credit card on line and it looked screwy, so I called the company and they said it looking funny because I had a pending charge...FROM APPLE!!!!!! That means it will probably ship tomorrow (crosses fingers) and come next week?!?!? Man, the suspense is killing me.

Anyone else with a bluetooth option recieved shipping info yet?

How is this possible?

17" w/ 1gb ram and airport extreme card, ordered 9/3/04, original shipping date October 4, just checked and it says shipped and my CC's been charged. Sweet! :D

I ordered pretty much the same exact configuration as this person 2 days earlier (9/1/04) with the exception of the Airport Card. and I also added the Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse. And also 1gb RAM.

How is it possible that someone who ordered 2 days after me with pretty much the same config. have there's shipped and mine still says on or before 9/30/04???

This Doesn't Make sense at all.

No. Still says on or before 9/29.

I ordered morning of the 1st day (twice - after the double RAM fiasco caused the rep to cancel my first order).

20 in w/upgrades: 250 GB HD, 512KB RAM, bluetooth, airport express card, Final Cut Express.

I also added AppleCare, and Airport Express to the order, and chose to wait to ship until all items are available. Hope this doesn't delay the shipment further, given that the iMac is coming from China, while the other items are not.

Bluetooth Models

Some people over on Apple's Discussions Boards, who ordered Bluetooth with there systems, said they've shipped. so i'm hoping that we aren't to far off.

my Apple Loan still hasn't been charged.

As for which BTOs get through the line first, I think it might be like auto production, where they make runs of interior colors.

With the iMac they might make a run using mother boards with BT and then a run without BT. To add to the fun they might also make sub runs with one size HD, then another.

The more you think about it, it seems logical that short runs would be based on what would be flowing into the production line in one batch, especially when thousands of iMacs are going to be going through the line daily. I'll have to wait until they have a BTO run using BT MBs and 250GB HDs. :(

Std Shipping Here....

If they charged your card it probably is off the production line and, like a lot of others, will be going through the paperwork. I have a feeling that the customers that specified 2nd day air will have their paperwork processed before me and others that took "standard" shipping, which might put me a day behind. I also have a feeling that we are the last to load onto the plane the day it is picked up.

The real joy will be watching your computer as it travels to you. When I ordered an iBook for my wife it only stopped in 4 cities before arriving!

I had mine shipped "Standard" and it shipped out yesterday morning. :)

Apple's email said I would have it within 10 days putting it at Sept 23rd max. How are you others getting delivery dates of the 15th or 16th ??? My FedEx tracking doesn't say the expected delivery date....

It will go by air from China to Anchorage and then to another location if the iBook I got was any indication. Depending on where you live I would guess that it will go by air to the closest location to you with FexEx ground distribution.

Apple said that they were taking a hit on the gross margins for the initial iMacs because of air freight costs. I would guess that this means people living in or close to major cities will get theirs faster than others.

The other shipping option was 2nd day air (next day is not available because of customs clearance) and 2nd day would just about be equal to overnight for something traveling that far. I'm not worried about an extra day or so as I used that savings to help pay for AppleCare - rather important for a 1st week rev a computer, even if it is from Apple.

quick question, i have orderd my 20" with BTO blue tooth + wireless keyboard & mouse. but my email from apple says NO BLUE TOOTH, but it does say BT Mod + wtless kybd&mse

Power Supply, WW 065-5258
256MB DDR400 SDRAM 065-4711
160GB HD 065-4703
SuperDrive 065-4705
No BlueTooth 065-4717
No Airport Card 065-4716
Not Applicable 065-4681
BT Mod.+Wrless Kybd&Mse+OSX-B B065-4721
Accessory Kit-B B065-4979

i am correct in thinking that this BT Mod will be on the motherboard and not one of those DLink things ?

I ordered the same config as you, and got the same unauthorized change in RAM config, but didn't notice that problem until Sept 1, at which time I called Apple and the order with 1 GB was cancelled and the correct order with 512 MB was entered. When I first ordered (Aug 31 @ 0640, BTW), estimated shipping was on or before Sept 30, and this has not changed.

You will get an internal BlueTooth module. "No BlueTooth" simply refers to the fact that you are not ordering BlueTooth seperately, but as part of a package with a keyboard and mouse.

You know, this is probably borderline fan-boy but if that happened to me (it won't, I live in NC) I'd make sure my two year old daughter was around when we fired it up. Every time I boot up or something she screams 'APPLE!' when the logo appears on the screen, or if I have my powerbook 12" on my lap and she sees it from the back and the apple is lit up from the back light. I find it cute but then she's my kid.

This coming from the guy who sat across from Steve Wozniak in First Class and was too chicken **** to bother him to say hello. My wife probably thought I was insane for a few moments, stuttering and pointing and all. He did crossword puzzles the whole flight. When I saw him at check in I about fell over. Was here at the RDU airport last year. I'd just seen him on the screen savers (back when the show didn't suck) and was really surprised to see him in Raleigh, NC

The only way I could get a delivery date was to go to the apple store page, click on "my order" and track it by clicking on the tracking number (delivery date 9/16 by 10:30 AM). If I track it through Fed Ex's website, it does not give me a delivery date. I had standard shipping on my computer. :)

Hope that helps

what was the estimated shipping date whos imacs are shipped? Mine is 10/13/2004.. I hope I don't have to wait that long!

Any european order shipping?

I placed my order (17"/1.8/stock but AE) on the 31st, and no news about shipping whatsoever... so I was wondering if any of us here in Europe got a notification. Maybe they are just shipping the first batches to the US.

Well, should not be reading MacRumors anymore.... I was all set to wait until the 28th and now this :)

It looks like right now they are about 2 weeks ahead of their estimates on the orders for those that ordered on day 1 or 2. Your ship date will probably move forward, based on what you ordered.

Good luck!

My iPod(s), Airport Express have come from China, my eMac came from California.

I believe the closer you order to intial release the more often it comes straight from the plant instead of CA.

The shipments to the US are from China - don't know if Europe will be included in this factory's distribution, or will have to wait for Cork to ramp up - which might be happening as we wait in agony until our shipment notification is received.

I think it is important to Apple to make a lot of new G5 iMac customers happy with fast shipments, and to clear them out in order to get ready for the Christmas trading period so you should beat your ship date estimate with any luck. I hope you get yours the same day I get mine. :D

I'm in the UK and paced my order on 31st (BTO 20" /BT/AP/ Wireless KB/Mouse)

My shipping date is still the same "Open" shipping on or before 28th Sept. I hope it's not early as I will be away next week, so no one to take the delivery.

The 16th for me !! Errr... I mean my wife...

I would see if it is possible for a neighbor to take it in for you and then leave a note for FedEx, or who ever delivers for Apple where you live. They will require a signature, but may deliver to a neighbor. That is why I always have my office as a delivery address - there is always someone here.

Mine is shipping from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania according to FedEx.

If it gets here tomorrow (finger's crossed), I might get one of my neighbors to sign for it. I don't think he knows what a Mac is anyway so there is little chance of him stealing it. And besides, I know where he lives if he tries to.

29lbs, not too heavy. My receipt for my old G4 20" imac that i just mailed off said 44 lbs! Either this one is way lighter, or, I was ripped off. :p
