I have it!

It's a thing of beauty, and the screen is fantastic considering I've been using a 12" iBook for the past few months (I got a 20" BTO). The size of it is staggering. It sits perfectly on my desk. I am so very happy with it - no problems whatsoever. Fantastic is all I can say.

:D

Well, just got the email that my new G5 shipped yesterday. Says it should show up in Broken Arrow,OK by friday. I got the free shipping, and that would be a total of 5 days....not bad. Ordered 9/15, shipped 10/10

Seems like we're on the same track. Are you showin "Left FedEx Ramp" Shanghai 10/12 @ (Shanghai time) 9PM? That's what I got right now. I'm hoping that means it got on the Shanghai to Anchorage FedEx flight (# 90) that gets into Anchorage this afternoon (Anchorage time). Timing for leaving the Shanghai ramp, and departure of the flight seems about right. Who knows though.

Got the CD for FCE in the box with my iMac, no paper manual, no box. But I believe the manual is there in electronic form.

I didn't open the packet (just shook it to get the SN) but there was a small booklet, the CD, in a seperate package

See the upper center of this pic

IF they got on that flight (I don't wanna jinx it so I'm not saying they did), I noticed it's scheduled to go on to the Memphis FedEx hub in a couple hours. Probly too much to ask that the iMacs stay on for the second leg...but that'd be a nice scenario.

Hey, anybody who got the wireless mouse and keyboard, is a corded KB and mouse included? Im assuming no, but just thought id check

You assume correctly. No wired KB or mouse. Did you really think Apple was giving you the $99 bundle without taking back the wired ones?

Looks like we may have gotten lucky. Mine says its left Alaska, and that was at 3:45 pm

I finally got around to updating Xgrid (something that didn't transfer right) and hooked my G5 iMac up to the Stanford Xgrid project and the fans are going.

While my wife's powerbook 12" (aka my former machine) is louder, you can hear the fans somewhat.

I'm set to Automatic by the way, not highest.

TNT "Express" + Apple Customer Service = Pathetic

Things could be much worse....

Let's hope the following situation doesn't happen to you:

> Sep 7 - Order Placed... Expected ship on or before Oct 5

> Oct 11 - TNT Express calls me "Sir, we may be a few days late with your package. It has been accidentally left out in the rain at our depot. We need to dry it off and assess the damage"

> Oct 12 - TNT shows up at my office with a destroyed box. It is clear that the bottom 35 centimeters of the box have been completely submerged in water. They recommend that I accept and call Apple. When I take the computer out of the remains of the box, water literally drips out of the speakers on the bottom.

I immediately phone Apple... Their response "We're very sorry. A replacement will be sent with highest priority. It should ship within the NEXT 4 WEEKS! "

> New expected ship date: November 9th. UNACCEPTABLE!

Two comments:
A.) TNT Express is pathetic. How can you "accidentally leave a package in the rain". It's not as if it isn't evident on the box that the contents are a computer. FedEx provides such a better service. I wish Apple would select a new logistics provider here in Europe.

B.) Apple customer service is equally pathetic. They have done ZERO to accommodate this situation. I am currently a windows user and this would be my first Apple. Instead of correcting the problem they have placed me at the back of the queue. I will cancel my order today out of principle.

editted by me.

WOW, that is the worst story I have heard to date. You would think that Apple would do something for you. That is ridiculous.

That's one of the worst shipping stories I've ever heard. You're right, Apple should drop TNT if this is the kind of service it provides.

However, I don't believe Apple has placed you at the back of the queue. It has become clear that Apple is producing batches of iMacs with similar configurations, and the company is simply informing you of the latest date when a batch with your configuration is expected to be produced. Although Apple won't reschedule the production of thousands of iMacs to make another one for you, I'm sure that if you ask for a manager and try to work constructively with that manager, you can get expedited shipping free of charge, a discount for your inconvenience, and a free upgrade or other Apple goodies to keep your business.

Whatever you do, don't compromise your computing experience because of a stupid mistake made by a shipping company - you're really mostly punishing yourself!

Took 15 days and I got my BTO 20 incher

I went in to the UBC bookstore and ordered a 20" iMac with 250Gb HD 1 gig of ram BT etc. and after being told that it would take 4 to 5 weeks I recieved it in 15 days.

This sure beats my B&W G3, wish I had it a long time ago.

Back to play I mean work

Oh man! Way to go FedEx! It's on the vehicle for delivery to me this morning. The thing essentially went Shanghai to Boston in about 24 hours. Of course, I'm at work all day. Hoping I can get down to the FedEx place tonight and pick it up there though.
