I ordered my iMac G5 on October 4th. 20" / 512 RAM / 250Gig / BT installed but wired keyboard / AirPort card. Order is stil listed as "Open" with estimated ship date of 11/03/04, the same it has been for the last 10 days. It looks like many (but not all) folks here have had the iMac shipped in two weeks or less, so my hope is that my ship date is sometime next week instead of two weeks after that.

Breathe

Uh, JRichardson, maybe you shouldn't hold your breath too long.

My BTO:

Ordered 8/31/04:
Shipped 9/24/04:
Received 9/29/04.

Mine shipped air mail from Shaing Hai. Apple widely publicized that an unspecified number of "early orders" would be shipped via air. This was a strategy to create buzz, reward early orderers and no doubt get models in their stores. The company noted that it was taking a "profit hit" for doing so.

At some point, the machine will begin shipping via "slow boat from China," literally.

Not sure if this point has been reached yet. Be assured, the wait will be worth it. This machine is -- by far -- the best computer I've ever used or owned.

oh yes it can,i have my OOB date changed 3 times now, i now have a date of 22 Oct, but i ordered my 20" on 13 Sep. so dont hold your breath. i would be supprised if you got before mid november.

Don't say that. I need to believe it's shipping soon. I can't keep checking status as often as I do.. my productivity has dropped..

This is my situation:

- Ordered on 9/20
- iMacs are Backordered
- Westworld (whom I ordered from) has very low shipping priority
- Their supplies of 20-inches have been a trickle
- They have 15 seperate Special orders, including mine.
- My special order is on a 20 inch
- They have had one special order come in the the past month.
- I don't have an OOB Date, or an estimated arrival date.
- So I don't know how long I could be waiting, because i'll only know it's coming when it's here.
- I live in Victoria, B.C., Canada

Today is a good day..

Well I walked into my local apple store today planning on getting a 20" lcd for my powerbook, but instead I left with a new 20" imac. I stopped by fry's (hate that place) on the way home and picked up a gig of matched ram..I love this thing. Nice and fast and the screen seems monstrous....like I said today is a good day.

Why do you hate Fry's? They got a lot of selection. Which Fry's was it?

Because it is always crazy and crowded. The upgrade isle where you have to go to get the ram is a joke. you stand not in a line, but just around some sales guy while he is helping someone else and just wait (10-15min) for someone to help you while the area crawls with people trying to do the same. Then you pray you don't need to return anything because the return line looks horrific at all times. BUT they are the only place around here (I live in Huntington Beach but the Frys Im talking about is in Fountain Valley) that I can walk in and leave with a gig of mathed brand name ram without paying through the nose for it.

Reading your story made me realize how lucky I was to get my BTO 20" iMac so quickly - I actually received it several days before the estimated ship date. I think this shows how little respect Apple has for its resellers - customers at Apple stores appear to be a much higher priority for Apple. The question is, how long will it be until the resellers (and their customers) tell Apple where to go...

For now, I wouldn't order any new Apple products anywhere but at the Apple Store, where I've had very good service and prompt shipping with all the items I've recently purchased (iPod, iMac G5, Airport Express).

Don't give up, though, you'll be glad when you finally get it!

Currently at FedEx ramp in Shanghai! Here's hoping I see it next week in Utah! Have two sticks of 1 GB Crucial memory standing by.

Wow! This is virtually the same configuration of mine (only difference is 512MB RAM instead of 256). I ordered mine 9/28, and the estimated ship is 11/2. I hope that actual ship is like yours... :)

Did you order directly through Apple Store or from a reseller?

i'm sick of waiting. i have no more enthusiasm for a new computer. i should just wait for the rev. b.

apple doesn't care a damn about australia.

i bet they don't even bother to send me a second 'late shipping notice' =P

grrrrness!

As I understand it Apple Australia didn't use express shipping for their orders. They almost all came by freight ships hence their long delays.

If it helps there is also a shipment due October 19.

Edit: On an aside just be thankful they didn't lose your's =P I'm not here for one delivery and the package goes missing.

Quick question...

Where are the new iMacs assembled in China? There was a very large earthquake overnight and I'm wondering if my new iMac is now on the floor in little pieces...

I wouldn't worry about the quake that much. The epicenter was well off shore near Taiwan. It was a 6.7 on the richter scale which is more of a moderate quake.

Patience...

I purchased my 20" iMac G5 (512RAM, 250Gb) on 5 Oct and am still checking the delievery status like most, about every 10 minutes or so. I have seen postings indicating iMacs purchased through the Apple education program may have shipped with more priority...is there any truth to this?

Ordered: 5 Oct
Estimated Ship: On/before 4 Nov

This is my first Mac, I am making the big switch...

Lower priority for Education channel if anything

Sorry, but if anything Education channel shipments are lower priority than regular sales. I ordered a stock 20" iMac through the Apple Canada On-line store on August 31st. After a delay email from Apple, my OOB ship date slipped from September 30 to November 1st. The two places in Calgary (Westworld and the UofC Microstore) that offer Ed discounts are still saying there is a 4+ week wait and that they've delivered no 20" systems to Ed customers yet.

Another poster cancelled his Ed order and paid full price to get the a machine in about 2 weeks through CDW online. So if you're in a rush, I strongly don't recommend you use the Education channel. My SO doesn't actually need the computer for her university program until February so I'm in no rush. I figure if I see it before Christmas, I'll be happy.

I'm positive that your enthusiasm will return when you have your iMac in hand. Waiting isn't easy. The Rev. B could still have the same wait problems.

Three years of fixing adware and spyware and virii and WinXP FUBARs has led me to buy my parents a new iMac. I'm pleasantly surprised that it shipped early! BTO as follows:

17" iMac G5
512 RAM
80GB HDD
No AirPort
No Bluetooth
Government Employee Purchase

Ordered 9/29/04 with an On or Before Date of 10/27/04. Shipped out today, 10/15/04, from Shanghai!!! Supposed to arrive at their house in Portland on Wednesday, 10/20/04. I'm gonna beat that Gateway XP machine with a baseball bat when I go visit next...

I ordered a 20 inch at my local reseller (in Adelaide Australia) on September the Ist. I was the second person to order an ImacG5 at this store and they have no information from Apple when their shipment of 30 Imacs is coming. Hopefully in the second half of October. With the build up of shipping delays I think it would be a while before Apple would be considering a Rev B. Hang in there mate Im sure it will be worth waiting for.

Education Orders

I am not sure that I buy the argument that Apple is intentionally witholding educational orders and shipping out full price purchases first. I ordered on Oct. 4th and I am getting the same OOB November 2nd, 2004 ship date that everyone else seems to be getting.

If others who ordered around the same time start to receive theirs and I don't receive mine then I guess I will buy off on that, but that would be very bad business on the side of Apple and I don't think they would want that kind of mark on their reputation. If they were going to be that way then why offer the education discount at all?

They did ship my iSight and printer right away. I had them in my possession about 2-3 days after I ordered.

Eric

P.S. I am in the US and ordered direct from the Apple Store. I don't know if that will make a difference or not. At least I can login to the web site every five minutes, like everyone else, and see that the status hasn't changed.

- I purchased it with my dad's educational discount.
- I currently have 3 hours of footage (including a wedding) on DV that I need to edit and burn onto a DVD, and no way to do that until I get my imac.

I've posted this before, but I added two more points.

I'm f'd.

:(

I'll be glad when I get it, but I don't want it to be November, for crying out sideways. That's just ridiculous.

Imac

Walked into CompUSA and bought the Display. It was only out of the box for 12 hours....... They can't keep 'em in. Bought it for my Wife, , Yeah right, that's just what I told her. I love the thing. 17", SD, 40GB HD. Finally replaced her windows box, couldn't keep the damn crap off it. I hate windoze, an I'm and MCSE. hehehe. Bought my 1st Mac in december of last year, and bought 3 more since. OS X is great. Keep up the good work.
