My old powerbook with a blinking sleep light didn't bug me as much as the newer ones, they kind of make it seem like the computer is "breathing." Maybe Apple didn't release one for the powerbook because it's even easier to cover it up with a towel or something than the iMacs. If some of you think the lights on these machines are bright, try some PC's, they're usually worse.

I never knew the original G5s didn't have a light sensor. Another good reason why I waited until May 3rd to buy my rev. 2 iMac.....

brightness

It would be so great if I could have it set to be very bright during the day, and dim it at night if I have the lights out, or keep it bright if th lights are on.... much easier on the eyes that way.

The range of brightness on my iMac G5 is so narrow that this doesn't really seem worth doing. And it's bright enough that I just leave it on low even during the day. It would be OK if it actually could get dim for night use.

I put this on my GFs iMac G5 (Rev A) last night and for the first time since we added that machine to the collection the house didn't look like a UFO had landed in our nerd room (3 Macs, other nerdy electronics). It's something so small that most manufacturers wouldn't even think about it, thanks Apple!

you know, i remember reading somewhere that one can hack a way to utilize apple's velocity sensor in iTunes. If you move your laptop to the right, it will go to the next song, if you move the laptop to the left it will go back a song, etc... i would love to see apple make that kind of update...

Anyone got a link to be able to download this outside of Software Update please?
I looked for it in Apple's downloads section several times last week. I have yet to see it there.

The Revision B's are the updated 1.8 GHz and 2.0 GHz ones launched in May this year.

As you have a 1.8GHz 20" model yours is a revision A.

I did a thorough search as well for ya drlunanerd, but couldn't find it. Assuming you have a G5 iMac, I assume it is just simply not showing up in your software update?

Thanks mate. No, I don't have an iMac G5 to hand here, so can't use SU. Can anyone link to their own downloaded file?

Don't have one either, or else I could post it for you. May I ask why you are interested in the update if you don't have a G5 iMac? Or are you planning on cracking it open and playing with the code? ;)

mm, i just did this update (yes, i know it's old..i havent been able to shut down my computer..too much stuff going on)

anyway, for me it kinda ruins the effect of the light [it being dim]. still, maybe i'll be able to sleep better.

hey, maybe they could sort out the ****ING fan problems these imacs have..? err..nah maybe not i guess..

Sleepy sleep light

Coooooool...
I installed this yesterday at home and it made a nice difference!

Kudos to Apple for taking care of these wonderful details...
but now... where is my PowerBook G5?!?!

:D
