I heard they're introducing their state of the art WiFi antenna on the iMacs. It will be built into the frame of the Screen.
No worries though, Apple learn from their mistakes. This time they're handing out the massive 21.5" and 27" bumpers straight on the release day!

HDMI? Doubt it. Yes it was on the MacMini, but that was because many users, myself included, hook up the MM to our TV's. On these units, HDMI makes sense. On the iMac, not so much.

Not necessarily... I would love to see a HDMI In on the new iMac so I could hook up external devices (PS3, Standalone Blu-Ray Player*, etc) and use the iMac screen for something other than just work.

I doubt very much Apple will do this, but one can hope!

*Yes, I know the PS3 has a Blu-Ray Player, I was just running out of examples after "PS3"... lol :)

I'm amazed no-one from Korea has managed to snap up a new iMac and demo it in a video. They've been pretty slick with that this year ;)

I think you meant Vietnam dude, if you're talking about those iPhone 4 prototypes and new unibody MacBook videos ;)

I want to see the new iMac tomorrow!!! Hopefully the 21.5 iMacs will see a kick-ass upgrade, core i5, better gpu, bigger HD, and maybe some new cool thing? (MagicPad??) would be awesome!

iLife '10 would also be great, especially if it now supports running in 64bit mode and takes advantage of GrandCentral etc. :)

In the UK store I selected they had all iMacs and Mac Pro apart from 2 iMac models available. So I'm not sure if this is a sign or not. It could be nothing.

Not that it usually means anything, but there seems to be no lack in supply in the Swiss Apple Store.. all iMacs and MacPros are available...

Though Switzerland is not usually first for new releases :p

My 5 year old G5 iMac is really showing it's age(it won't play HD video at all and can't run the latest version of Mac OSX!)...and I desperately need a new one, but I too am waiting until the iMacs are updated. Although my G5 iMac has served me well, I remember getting it in August of 2005 and the new Intel based iMacs came out in September of 2005 just a month later. I want to make sure this time I time my purchase for right AFTER the new ones come out. :)

I don't think this upgrade will be as major as the switch from the power pc to Intel was....but none the less, I'd rather wait.

Mainly I am just hoping the 21" gets a Quad core option. I do alot of video editing and animation, so this is important to me. I know I could get the 27" Quad core now...but I prefer the smaller 21".

The rumor of HDMI would be cool, as would USB 3.0....but the rumor of a touch screen iMac seems silly to me. I just don't see the point of that. But hey...whatever Apple does, will be cool.

Could tomorrow be the day? I LOVE Tuesdays! :)

that would be pretty damn sweet.

you could have also mentioned sky/cable TV and macbooks and other computers.

I just got an email from Amazon, and they have just chopped the price of things like iLife by half:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0014X5XEK/ref=pe_69900_16412840_pe_epc_t5

Haven't heard rumors of the software suites updating, but if they improve stuff it is always welcome. iWork is in the same boat. WHAT A DEAL! Under $100 for OSX 10.6, iLife and iWork.

It's been three years that I've waited for Apple to make iWeb a much more flexible program with far less crap code bloating. iLife '10, iWork '10 soon? With iMacs, MacPros, iPods? That would be a nice release, and I hope they do it before the school year starts.

It really gets annoying reading all the replies still insisting that Blue Ray should be included. It's like every forum topic about iMac or Mac Pro turns into a Blue Ray debate. Apple would've introduced it by now if they wanted to. It's not going to happen so let it go..please!

Well the iMac update is pretty easy to predict. Low end models will still have Core 2 Duos and use the nVidia 320M IGP. Higher end models will be Core i5 and Core i7 with dedicated graphics of some sort.

I doubt we'll see anything other than 21.5" and 27" as those case designs aren't even 1 year old.

It's nice to see the Mac getting some love again.

I'd like to see either USB 3.0 or eSATA, or both.

The current design is awesome, but I'll always take higher resolution screens or a return to the 16:10 format! The IPS screens are top notch, though!

The iPhone 4 has ruined me for high-end screens forever. Let's have a "Retina" 326ppi display for the iMac and the iPad. Mostly, I'd appreciate it on an iMac, but I'm sure that's unlikely.

Mini-DisplayPort is fine with me, but please let audio flow freely through it!

The real reason Steve refuses to add Blu Ray support ...

It ruins the aesthetics!

(seriously though, those blue boxes with the 15mm pointless header make me sick, even worse than Microsofts disgusting green xbox cases.)

Retina display is not a technical term, it's a marketing term invented to mean "a display with no discernible pixels at normal viewing length". The 300 PPI mark for iPhone 4 comes from the fact you hold it about 12" away from your face.

For a desktop or a laptop, the distance is greater, thus the PPI doesn't need to be as high to be considered what Apple marketing dubbed "retina display".

And while it is unlikely they will refresh the displays, last time we had this same discussion, the 27" iMac was already very close to a PPI that could be considered "retina display".

I have a feeling that a lot of Mac users don't use super drives anymore.

I don't agree with that. My fathers iMac (2006) has a broken superdrive, he needed it so he's now using an external burner. My iMac is following the same fate and since I use it for backups and distribution of such I'm going to need an external burner.
Back at my college that was full of iMacs, the computer store was almost always sold out of blank DVDs.

People need their optical media. I'm hoping for bluray so I don't have to backup to 5 discs at a time. Would be nice to just click "backup" and not have to waste hours swapping discs over. Of course we won't get them though - Steve probably thinks the HD videos on iTunes are good enough

My iMac early 2008 (April) keeps dying on me. First its HD would not work at all, so i installed a new one and it worked fine for a month or two. Today, I guess last night, it died AGAIN. I am not sure what's happening... I thought it was because I had Windows installed on a partition.... but that didn't happen the second time when I had the new HD installed..... I am not sure what to do... Is it over-heating? that kills it because I noticed the top left corner the aluminium part it was extra hot and not fans were running at the time, I mean I am sure they were, but not at max speed........... soooo I should I wait a few weeks and see if the iMac comes out or not? or should I try to send it in to some repair shop? I don't have apple care for it either....

Duh. Yes, I know that "retina" is a marketing term.

Whatever the case may be, when I look at the screen of my iPhone 4, everything is so crystal clear, razor sharp, (insert your own superlative) it makes looking at my iPad or iMac almost disappointing, both of which have gorgeous LED-backlit IPS displays.

Don't get me wrong, I love my iMac. But comparatively speaking, the single best display is on the iPhone 4. Do you know what I mean?

January 2006 wasn't it? At Macworld

Yes, and as I specified, the 27" iMac is already very close to that "magical" PPI that is dubbed "retina display". There's been threads about this and the math has been posted before.

Don't get me wrong, but people asking for 300 PPI+ 27" monitors don't really understand what was meant by the marketing term.
