That is really cool.

The first Mac with an A-series processor in is coming earlier than any of us imagined! Of course this is different, but it’d be interesting to see it used for other things like app development (iOS emulation).

This was the always way they were going to be used in Macs (i.e. as a coprocessor) in the near future, with the exception of the 12” MacBook where I wouldn’t be surprised if it replaced the current Intel chips.

Good point! Any opinions on how long until ALL Macs use an Apple chip? Will we see that day? I hope intel has been preparing for this day...

Hey Siri has worked since the A8, I don’t think it has an A10 just for this feature - there’s something more to this.

I believe this to be the case as well. Unless they plan to use it for some lower level functions and/or for system security. Hopefully this will bring FaceID to the Mac (I doubt it, but hopefully)!

Siri? Useless on iPhone, so why would I use it on a 'pro' machine?

I wish you could completely uninstall Siri from osx and iOS. And I don't mean just disable it. It's the most useless voice assistant in my opinion and it irks me that it takes up space.

All these attacks on Siri are getting old. I mean, they are literally getting old. All these complaints about Siri are old complaints that are no longer valid. Siri has come a really long way in the last year alone.

I use Siri every single day on my wrist, on my phone and on my TV to control my home, to play music and tv/movies, to remind me of things both time wise and location wise, to set appointments and remind me of them, to get directions, to ask cultural, scientific, geographic, biographical or historical questions without having to Google for them. I get an answer each time. The "Here's what I found on the web" response is getting ever more rare. Siri is getting smarter and more capable of answering diverse questions.

Do you guys have a ball of yarn in your mouths when you speak? Siri understands me perfectly and I sometimes have a stutter.

If you're going to criticize Siri, at least find a complaint that's still relevant. That's the kind of criticism that's going to push Siri forward.

I cannot understand WHY it is necessary that powerful processor to an as simple task as “hey Siri” when google assistant voice recognition of “ok google” works much better and in any iPhone with any processor...
I eventually use Siri (most of the time for setting timers) but the Hey Siri functionality is very frustrating for me, it never works at once

I can predict where they are going... not just Siri and not just Face recognition, but gesture and voice control commands combined. This is the future of computing. This is why Apple are not interested in touch screens.

Face ID needs the A11 chip to work. It’s not coming to the iMac pro anytime soon.

Based on what information? Some random post?

“It needs the a11 other wise the iPhone 8 would have it”

All we know is it needs the Face ID sensor grid. That’s the only thing we know.

Says Apple itself?

https://support.apple.com/en-sg/HT208108

A portion of the A11 Bionic chip's neural engine — protected within the Secure Enclave — transforms the depth map and infrared image into a mathematical representation and compares that representation to the enrolled facial data.

They talked about a new Mac Pro some time ago. Is the iMac Pro suppose to be this new Mac Pro replacement? At first I didn’t think that was the case when they announced the iMac Pro but as time slips by with no new information about the Mac Pro I am starting to believe it is...

Siri is the best. You Google fanboys are so sad, trolling Apple sites LMAO.

They're supposedly working on a completely modular Mac Pro that might be announced either this year or next year.

Face ID requires the secure enclave to work. A7 chips and later have it. Intel chips do not.

Given that it'll have an A chip, there's a very good possibility that the iMac Pro will have Face ID. It's probably one of the reasons why it's only coming out after the iPhone X. TrueDepth sensor supply. That's been corrected with a steady stream of iPhone X's now hitting the market. We know that there's no Touch ID since we've already seen the keyboard and mouse/touch pad. What better model to start cutting edge security than the $5,000 pro flagship?
