Spotlight can find things that way as well. (since Sierra iirc).. there’s also now type to Siri so you don’t have to use voice if you don’t want to.

Yeah - that was my point. But here is a real question: what is the difference between type/display siri and spotlight?

You're saying you want ARM versions of macOS apps (so, Photoshop, Logic, FCP, etc) and you want to run those on an A10 (or other ARM SoC)?
I'm a developer. Having a machine that can run natively both ARM and Intel binaries would be a plus for me. It would allow me doing very useful things, such as running virtual machines of ARM operating systems natively. Or, if Apple wishes to implement the iOS simulator with support to that A10, one could simulate iOS apps more realistically.

Regarding ARM MacOS apps, I'm not a friend of Intel. I came from RISC, and I always loved RISC. I consider a plus having an Intel chip, because you can run natively Intel OSs on a virtual machine (Windows, Linux,...). But I wouldn't care if MacOS apps were ARM in the future, provided there's an Intel CPU or Intel board to also run such virtual machines.

Sure it can. Tell me why not.
Where's the slot for upgrading the GPU?
What's the procedure when you suffer the failure of a component that you should be able to service it yourself (display/PWS/SDD/GPU...)?
I'm sorry but AiO toys are not suitable for professional environments.

Hey Siri has worked since the A8, I don’t think it has an A10 just for this feature - there’s something more to this.

Yep. There will be a migration from Intel to ARM for all Apple devices. There will also be a move from macOS to iOS for those devices as well. It will do the following:
  1. Give a single target for app development (both internally at Apple and for 3rd party dev)
  2. Give Apple the ability to lock down the platform (macOS is too open for their revenue streams)
  3. ... I thought there would be more, but those two cover it.

Too bad the MBP's don't have an A10, and don't have a separate partition for ARM-macOS with comparatively, infinite battery life ;)

why should they do that?
what would be the difference(s) between the two versions?
Pro ios OSX version would have possibility to setup advanced features, Lite version would just do all automatic as Apple likes to do. I do not like when features are removed that I'm using. Apple kind of forgets to inform people that they removed fetures. like in Pages, Aperture, Wifi, many settings in system preferences.

Well, this may solve the 10-bit HEVC h.265 hardware decode issue.

(The Intel chips used in the iMac Pro wouldn't support that, and Apple isn't supporting it on AMD GPUs either.)

The reason the iMac Pro's Intel chips don't support hardware HEVC is because they are missing Intel's integrated GPU.

It's an attempt to justify the jaw dropping entry price. A differentiator from the regular ole iMac. But Siri is hardly a selling point. More often it's a setting that's turned off.

“Hey Siri... stop letting invasive letter agencies listen to me all the time.”

Siri: “no.”

Actually, Siri uses a chip that does nothing but listen to the user saying "Hey Siri". That's it. So in the worst possible case, some "letter agency" (I assume you mean a four letter agency like GCHQ), could find out that you said "Hey Siri".

iOS development isn't emulated. When you debug an iOS app in the simulator, it gets compiled for x86.
And often runs a lot faster than on a real device.

Maybe in the future there will be secondary arm processors to authenticate a real mac killing the hackintosh market.

well current pro devices, i.e. the MacBook pro do not have usb ports. I was being presumptuous in thinking that Apple would be consistent across their device portfolio in calling USB dead. But apparently, they are reversing their decision and putting them in the new iMac pro. lol
Who told you MBP didn’t have USB ports lol? All the touchbar models have 4 of them. Here’s one way to use them:
  • USB Port 1: Charging cable
  • USB Port 2: iPhone X
  • USB Port 3: Mouse
  • USB Port 4: USB memory stick
The kicker? No USB hub necessary. All 4 ports support USB3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps). Oh, and NO DONGLES NEEDED, despite your earlier snarky post.

Of course, using the 4 MBP ports like that is kind of a waste, since not only do they support USB3.1 Gen 2, but they also support Thunderbolt 3. Which means those same ports can also provide 40Gbps transfer speeds. So maybe with your new 2016/2017 15” MBP, you’d choose to use them like this:
  • TB3 Port 1: eGPU with nVIDIA 1080ti
  • TB3 Port 2: 40Gbps Ethernet adapter
  • TB3 Port 3: LaCie RAID array, 120TB/12 drive hot swappable RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60
  • TB3 Port 4: OWC TB3 dock with another 13 ports: 5 x USB3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) ports, 2 x TB3 ports for TB3 pass through or 4K monitor support, Mini DisplayPort, Gb Ethernet, SD card reader, FireWire800, analog audio in/out, S/PDIF digital audio out.
This is Apple’s version of the future. This is Apple innovating. Incredible I/O capabilities while in the office or at home; light/thin/powerful on-the-go or traveling.

The MBP buyers who love the new models get it. They’re not the type to drop $2k on a machine and then bitch about $100 in cables. Or a $300 dock that lets them move their laptop between home and work while only needing to plug in ONE cable, not 6 or 8 or 10.

I am impressed with how much Apple can cram into an iMac, but I am impressed with the 2013 Mac Pro as well. Not sure I want it all stuck behind a monitor. I would like a desktop computer, pretty please. Expansion

It almost sounds like MacOS is going to become a custom iOS app! That would be hilarious!

iOS becomes a weird hypervisor/EFI/BIOS replacement and essentially virtualizes MacOS.

Only someone who actually wants Siri on their machine would pay $5K for an imac.
Siri is already on Macs

What I care about most is if there is user-upgradable RAM or not.

Not user-upgradeable = no go for me.
it's not that hard to figure out how much RAM you'll be needing for the next ,say, 5 years..

(that said, the RAM does look to be socketed so you should be able to swap it yourself at a later date.. albeit, judging by the pictures/renderings we've seen so far, it looks like you'll have to open it up via the screen)

will start at $4999.
lol Why don't they just come right out and say the Mac Pro is dead. So when he said "Can't innovate my ass" he really meant it. They can't even innovate their asses.

I don't know man. $5K [USD] for sub-par hardware that can't even do native VR?
