Hope the "DNA" in this iMac Pro drops down to lower-end models in some capacity, not in the form of 18-core Xeon processors, but at least give this broke dad the option to buy a Space Gray keyboard ;)

This is really all I want lol. Think they will notice if I buy one, an extra black keyboard and return the iMac Pro?

My problem:

Apple does not support 5 year old devices.

This Imac has the latest specification, but next year it will be old.
Therefore people pay 1000euro per year to use this machine and will never ever get a good value if they want to sell it or upgrade.

Every time new OSX or update comes out, it makes computer slower.

I think it is heap of $ and no upgrade ability. Not for me. I buy Bitcoin instead.

I don‘t understand what the market for such a machine would be. Those who need bare processing power have already gone to PCs where it‘s much more affordable, or they shifted their hardcore computations to the cloud. In my opinion they just repeat the same strategic mistake that ruined the last-gen Mac Pro, just in another enclosure.

However, i can understand what the market for the cheese grater was - professionals.

They could have put something useful in place of that SD slot, maybe CFAST or more USB-C/TB. Or better yet, digital audio in/out.

And here exactly is why this Mac is actually quite expensive. You can't upgrade RAM, SSD or graphic card later on without having to pay Apple for that.

AND.... what happens when Apple takes 5 years to release the new model for this Mac? OR when they suddenly decide that they'll stop making Final Cut Pro because it's no longer worth it and there is always iMovie?

Sorry for the rant. I'm just not liking how Apple is doing things lately.
That will just have to be a price you have to be willing to take. Are you willing to dance with the devil?

put together a similar speced computer with components and let us know what it comes out too.
Yes but in doing so you now have a modular system, which when one component fails or needs to be upgraded you may do so and still have a viable machine or in fact a better one. Compare Apples to...well Apples!!!!

I wish I had $5k on my person, let alone $5k to spend on a computer. I'll pass. However, the release of this computer means that that space gray keyboard and mouse will be sold separately at some point, that's what I'm really excited about.

Last black Friday I finally gave up on mac. I bought a gaming pc with windows mixed reality and controllers and 1tb sad for 900.... and I can change the RAM, the drives, the graphic cards .... can't wait any longer for mac to think about users instead of profit.

It's not the market, but the Pro definition that changed: guys that perceive (a gray version of a consumer) something is more important than what comes out...
