Classic Micro Center (that’s a good thing)... limited quantity, priced below cost, a loss leader. They’ve been doing this for years. If you’ve got one close and are looking to buy a base model iMac Pro, it’s an amazing deal. Absolutely no downside, it’s a great place to do business.

Apple has nothing to do with this discount, so anyone who wants to see this as evidence that the iMac Pro is “failing” will have to look elsewhere for evidence to support their agenda-driven narrative.

Bingo !

Hopefully others here will realize what’s behind this *deal* and not slumping sales.

Rather, if it were immediately cratering sales we'd be seeing similar fire sales everywhere it's carried. The fact that it's a store-only deal makes it pretty clear that it's about getting foot traffic and attention.

Wow for $169 I probably should have gotten the AC+
It’s not too late, you can buy it from Micro Center or directly from Apple, but only within the first 60 days. I think regular AppleCare is still available within the first year but AppleCare+ must be purchased within the first 60 days.

Considering the low cost and huge benefit, AC+ for the iMac Pro is a definite no-brainer.

Much more tempting, but still, who wants to buy any high end computer with vulnerable processors to Spectre/Meltdown?
Specture/Meltdown are only really problems to data centres. For general computers, someone would have to put a virus on your computer, which is something a decent AV should be able to take care of. But then if you are thinking about going to the trouble of building a virus around those flaws (which isn't easy), you might as well just take the easy route and install a key logger where you are more likely to get the data you want. But for data centres, where you have multiple companies running on the same physical hardware, someone could install a virus which is then able to read other companies' data.

I just picked one up (they had 10+ in stock at the local Micro Center). Insane price drop for a machine that was just released 1 month ago.

Also, for anyone interested if you use your Amex card you get an extra 1 year warranty.

I didn't realize it was so (relatively) inexpensive, for the iMac Pro. Yep, I'll probably get that... need to sell off my Late 2013 Mac Pro + the Space Gray Keyboard/Mouse to free up a bit of cash, ha.

I would probably stretch my budget (and endure the wrath from my wife) and pick one up for this price to replace my failing 2011 iMac if they had stores anywhere near me.

It's probably for the best that it is an in-store only deal.

Yep my local store has at least 10 ready to fly out the door:

I got the base base model yesterday, it’s a powerful machine even at base model, and that’s a good deal if you can get it take stop complaining and worrying if Apple is selling more of these computers

Never heard of "Micro Center Stores" before.

The loss they will take on a small number of strongly sought-after products is paying for priceless articles on tech blogs. Way more cost-effective than, say, advertising their stores on Facebook.
Micro Centers are great for all electronics/ books/build your own etc. Several in VA / DC area. Online also.

Great stores for BYO and all MAC and other supplies. Big in VA/ DC and online.

In other words, sales of the new imac pro suck. This thing is in no man's land. Too expensive for the casual user, and too restrictive for the pro. Another Apple misfire.

I don't think sales are sucking because it has only been released for a month - so too early to go there. But I will say in general the U.S. economy is definitely sucking big time. More and more people are out of work, losing their homes, families are being torn apart everyday, I see people begging in the streets for a dollar so they can grab a bite to eat. So, as the gap continues to widen between rich and poor, more common people will be less likely to be able to afford any Apple products. My former neighbor was a healthcare professional and when he lost his job - he eventually lost his home, wife and family, the dogs, everything. Last I saw of him, he became a beggar on the streets. It can happen to anyone of us at any time but please don't blame Apple for having sucky sales so early in the game.

.....The professionals are not interested in the base configuration hence why the 20% discount this soon. Those guys are ordering more expensive custom spec ones. For those who can already afford a $5k machine, $10k is not a lot of money especially if they have high six figure salaries from pro work.
I suspect you're right on the money with that assessment. They probably ordered way too many of the base configs, and I wouldn't be surprised if even Apple themselves have manufactured too many of those, perhaps offering a deal to one select, well-respected large chain, thus the unspecified end date of this great deal. "There's no indication when the sale ends, so act fast."

For that reason, as others have wondered, I doubt similar discounts will be available across the line-up, or on any upgraded/custom configurations.

No Micro Center for 1,000+ miles... if it was anywhere close - I would be very tempted!

It's a thousand dollars off and my wife would still beat me to death with it if I bought it. That computer is so freaking expensive.

Yep, I love MC and there’s one 10 mins away! Way better than BB.
Probably around a year ago, I had to walk in to a Best Buy for the first time in at least a decade, and on my way I passed by their scattered clusters of computers, and thought maybe they had a Surface Studio to take a look at. The sweaty computer manager made John Hodgemans character look suave and informed by comparison, and when I myself concluded that they didn't have one available on the floor, I pointed at the little MacBooks off on their own and asked how they were selling. I got about a 15minute lecture on why macs are junk and Apple is a terrible company and Steve Jobs was a conman. Now I have an armful of my own technical criticisms and gripes with Apples approach to certain things, but what I heard contained none of that. I couldn't shake the guy the entire rest of the time I was in the store.

That's some kind of business they're running over there.

Not according to your President. He points to the record highs in the stock market and low unemployment.

The Minneapolis store is actually $4499.00.

Either the iMac Pro doesn't sell well from third parties or someone at Micro Center thought it would make for a cheap publicity stunt.

While supplies last....

Probably have two per store at their 25 locations. Channel the lose into their marketing budget. Great way to get exposure. Brilliant!
