That price seems somewhat reasonable, even tempting. The top of the line i7 iMac with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD goes for $3699 from Apple. Of course you can save a few hundred bucks by getting the base 8GB and buying a third party memory upgrade.

Hmmmm.... 4 in stock near me...

That was what I was thinking about getting until this sale.

Yep, I did the exact same thing. Such an awesome deal, I couldn't pass it up. My 2013 6 core is about half as fast in benchmarks. I gotta get some TB3-2 adapters as well for some external 4k displays as well as my two RAID arrays.

The store I got mine from had 8.

I'm replacing my MacBook Pro 15" early 2011. Been waiting for Apple bring more than 16GB of Ram to MacBook Pro but no luck. The non upgradability of the MacBook Pro also has been a turn off. Yes the iMac Pro is hard to upgrade, but it can still be upgraded.

Just Picked up one from Denver Microcenter at 5PM.
Manager said he started day with 10 and had 2 left after my purchase.
Came over personally to introduce himself and congratulate me on the great deal.

I think others conflate if they don't have access to a MicroCenter within reaching distance, like A Best Buy, it's not beneficial to them as it would be for other electronic stores in their area, therefore Microcenters don't exist to them . I mentioned earlier, I have five Best Buy's in my city, but I don't have a MicroCenter within reach, which isn't a problem for me, but I would like to visit one or at least have more alternatives in my city besides Best Buy, which I don't care for visiting all the time. And Circuit City was the only other competition, which they closed while ago.
Totally agree. I avoid Best Buy as much as possible. As far as supplies, MicroCenter has an incredible selection. The store just goes on and on. For people much smarter than me who build / fix computers and the like it's definitely nerd heaven. They have a lot of steep discounts on older stuff too, as well as used, open box, and refurbished items.

Hopefully they expand so you can have one nearby, although I doubt it with how the industry seems to be embracing less and less do it yourself hardware. It's nice to have around though - I was in a bind last spring and needed a specific penatlobe screwdriver immediately, and it was nice to be able to order online, have them get the order ready for pickup in less than 5 minutes for free, drive ~20 minutes away and have it waiting for me.

Also, if it hasn't been mentioned already, they only allow one sale iPad, Mac, etc. to be purchased per household, but if you order different colors or configurations, they count them as separate items. So, if iPad Pro 10.5 inch was on sale, you can't buy two 32 GB silvers, but you can buy a 32 GB silver and a 32GB space gray. Just a tip for those wondering.

If a product of this caliber can have 20% knocked off its retail price in less than a month from release that's problematic. This thing is priced WAY out of the market. Hopefully deals like this pop up more often and drive the actual market price for these down a bit.
This isn’t an Apple discount, it’s a limited quantity, below-cost loss leader by Micro Center.

Micro Center is well known for doing this; don’t read more into it than what it is. Apple’s pricing is actually decent for a Xeon workstation.

I'm happy to confirm that Best Buy will price match the $3999 price if you recently purchased the base model via the BB website.

I ordered one Monday when they had it for $250 off—been happily using it since it arrived Wednesday. Anyhow, I just called Best Buy with the Micro Center price and a very nice woman took the other $750 off.

So I'm pretty pleased with just about everyone right now! ;)
[doublepost=1515904377][/doublepost]And don't forget to add the AppleCare+ . . . at only $169 it's pretty much a no-brainer!

Much more tempting, but still, who wants to buy any high end computer with vulnerable processors to Spectre/Meltdown?

Laptops are many times an impulsive purchase. Workstations are investments. Also, w/o including a touchbar keyboard, an Apple Pencil compatible touchpad, and a lightning headphone jack, this red headed step child looks like it will fall victim to being last in line to receive updates.

While most modern processors are vulnerable to Spectre/Melthdown, there are far easier way to steal your data. For example https://hackernoon.com/im-harvestin...swords-from-your-site-here-s-how-9a8cb347c5b5

Best Buy refused to price match online for me. I even talked to a supervisor. They said I have to go in-store. Are there any other online stores that do price match?

He probably saw the price and forgot for a moment that he's not working at the used car lot anymore. ;)

Seriously though, congratulations! How do you like it?

Maaan that is way too much computer for me but I'm still tempted.

I found myself briefly contemplating if I could justify getting one despite that I already have a 2016 MBP and 27" LG Monitor. After being a strictly desktop guy for years, I switched to a laptop about 6 years ago and love the freedom, but I sometimes pine for the raw power and unconstrained storage space of a desktop.

If this was available in my country.. I would have bought an iMac Pro in no time.

MicroCenter does this all the time. This is no indication of how well a new Apple product is selling. They did this with the revised MBP in late 2016 — killer deal on the base model. Some other places were offering great deals on the base model iMac Pro over the last week or so. Those of us who do business sales with Apple usually get a 10% or more discount through Apple — usually the same as EDU, but sometimes more or less, depending on situation.

A friend of mine picked one up from the Denver MicroCenter, should work great for him for what he does. In fact it’s probably overkill for him.

Personally, I have a 14-core with 128GB, Vega 64 and 2TB SSD on order — supposed to deliver first week of Feb. Got about a 10% discount thru business sales. If the machine is nice as I’m hoping then I’ll probably order two more (probably 10 core units).

According to my sales rep, the iMac Pro is selling well. Much better than the 2013 trashcan/ cylinder Mac Pro at the start. But Apple has left a lot of the high-end home users and indie customers behind with this one again. Corporate customers are eating it up — nice powerful system, pretty much the best 27” display you can buy, Xeon CPU, etc.. While it’s expensive, no one is going to beat the price for the same specs, especially considering the display and multiple TB3 and USB3.1 I/O.

The all-in-one concept and forced Xeon CPU + ECC memory adds a lot of expense and makes it difficult for many to justify. From a business perspective though, these systems are amazing. For just under $10K, I can put a 10-core system with reasonably good GPU, 128GB RAM and 2TB SSD on an employee’s desk. It will do everything they need to do and probably not need an upgrade for at least 3, possibly up to 5 years. The iMacs have been very low maintenance systems for us and wonderful all around purchases over the past almost 10 years. If the iMac Pro continues that trend, then we’ll be sitting rather pretty.

The only bad thing about the Micro Center deals like this is that they always target the base models. MacMall did the same thing about 2 weeks ago — killer deal, but base model only. Most I know in the video / post production world and other markets that want these systems are not going for the base model.

Officially 1 month since launch and it is already $1000 off, wow.

Indeed, can you just imagine if this was made by Samsung.
This thread wold be bursting with 100's of people laughing at what a flop it was.

It's a thousand dollars off and my wife would still beat me to death with it if I bought it. That computer is so freaking expensive.

Just tell her you saved the family $1000. ;)

In other words, sales of the new imac pro suck. This thing is in no man's land. Too expensive for the casual user, and too restrictive for the pro. Another Apple misfire.
The iMP is too much computer for casual users and a "meh" for pros who can buy the same CPU cycles for much less -- about the only thing going for it is the new color scheme. Add in Schiller's "aspirational" pricing and the intel CPU fiasco and Apple has a relative dud of a product on their hands.

My guess is Apple will try to extract some kind of compensation to offset the discounts, from intel's rear end.

Well I got the 2nd to last one at 5:10pm. One left as I walked out the store.

I don't think anyone would notice. This is one store. If it were discounted across the board and by Apple, maybe.

You're leaving out "prosumers" who want the reliability of Xeons/ECC, the best internals, IO, high performance encryption, display that Apple (and almost anyone) is offering and don't mind spending 4k on a machine (but did mind at 5k :D).

And my guess is Apple will do nothing- this is a special, small Microcenter sale, not a national Apple discount.

Don't worry, with the way USD keeps falling Apple will surely decrease the price for the rest of the world (as they did reversely in the past when USD was strong). Because Apple cares ...

... or not ;-)

Or maybe they just care about themselves. Maybe they just increase the prices in USD instead, then further increase prices in Europe when the exchange ratio stabilises. It's a win-win situation (for Apple that is).

This is a bit off topic but your suggestions - Most of this will never happen "in the coming years", because Apple doesn't want any of these things. It goes against their model.

1) Files app was needed to centralize files in a more workflow centric system now
2) Mac apps are designed for mouse/keyboard. However there is some rumors that they are trying to get a system together where developers can design one app and have it work more out of the box easily for all devices.
3) Apple's model is to lock down things. Make it simple simple simple. They will not allow access to protected files or usb. That shows how tech is getting in the way when there are easier ways like the cloud.
4) Mouse is tech. Apple believe it or not wants to get rid of things that get in your way. If you can interact directly with the software via touch. They won't introduce a mouse to an ipad/iphone. Think of a mouse on an apple watch. It needs to be simple.
5) Desktop-like browser? What's wrong with ios browser?
6) Apples allure is they are locked down. They control everything. That keeps them extremely secure. How often do you hear about an ipad virus? Quality control and approval processes. This system has paid off for them.
7) Think about how easy it is to separate apps and accounts on an ipad. Easy. Apple has *chosen* not too. It's in their best interest. For many reasons they don't want users sharing ipads.
8) Default apps they've done occasionally like google maps / apple maps. But it's again generally in their best interest to control the whole flow and force you to use their way of doing things.
9) Multi-tasking will keep getting better. You can multi-task on the ipad but for more complex tasks you use desktop/laptop. Hopefully this will get better multitasking for ios in the future. But it's not bad

Apple never thinks about the bottom line. Most people consider apple as choosing to do things just to make money and it's all about selling more products and sacrificing certain things in the sake of money. And this is completely wrong. Don't get me wrong they are a business and they will make money. But think of things like the headphone jack. They didn't remove it to sell more wireless headphones - they did it because the tech gets in the way. Their aim is to simply our lives, not just take our money. If I can have wireless headphone I just put in my ears that's so much easier then the wires and cords, that get damaged, and plug it in, and some dirt is stuck in the hole, etc.
If they were concerned with the bottom dollar, they would just sell those iMac Pro space gray accessories for anyone. Or a desktop tower with standard configuration and sell them like hot cakes. But they want to do it right, and make it simple. Each category of device serves a specific need - you won't see mouse on ipad.

In my previous my post I did briefly give an opinion about iMac Pro, but at the same time I said that I prefer iOS, and believe it can be the primary OS if my suggestions are implemented. Furthermore, in a recent article I read on MC that Apple are doing well with Computers/iDevices, so like I said before, iMac Pro is not a flop as others are suggesting in this thread just because of the price drop. If you compare with a PC with same specs than iMac Pro is reasonably priced and this price drop is a steal! I am not sure how it is off-topic.

You mentioned that it will never happen in regards to my previous post, but iOS 11 suggests otherwise. iOS 11 was more of an iPad update than a general update in previous years.

1) Agreed
2) No, Apple will only allow iOS apps to run on MacOS not vise-versa.
3) I prefer usb and if someone has something to share than it is not easier but more cumbersome. If 1) the files app is more flexible than I am sure it is possible.
4) Honestly, iOS should be flexible and offer more options, so whether Apple wants to get rid of things that get in your way is not relevant.
5) & 6) unable to download third party apps within the browser, unable to download; videos, music, files etc. iCab browser is the closest to a desktop browser. I agree about security but why not have a browser store like iMessages?
7) You’re making assumptions here.
8) if they want to sell more than give us the option.
9) I agree but it is taking Apple so long

I would like to see mouse on iPad. If Android can, then why not on iOS?

I ended up picking one up today. I got there around noon and picked one up and there were about 7 when I checked online before going and it looks like now they are sold out in the Chicago location I was at. I saw someone else buying one while I was checking out as well. Nice deal I was really shocked to see it.

I think it's a brilliant machine for what it does, if what you do is video-related. But there other kinds of professional computer users than that. Apple sometimes acts like the only power users in the world are people who do video production, and that meeting their needs is the same as meeting professionals' needs generally.

That's probably why they were so stunned at the pushback over the last year or so from professional users. They really thought they were nailing it. But what they were nailing was video production and sound studio stuff.

These meet the needs wonderfully of far more professionals than just video production. It's not single use here.
