Probably "Preparing to ship" now means they're ready, but will be delivered Dec 27, which seems to be some sort of embargo date. (It's probably also when reviews will go up.)

They might even have been able to assemble some of the non-Recommended Configurations in that time too.

You were lucky: I was watching it go live on Dec 19, 2013 (in Australia) and even though it was a comfortable 6 or 7 pm locally, I was dithering around deciding on core count, D500 or D700, etc, and didn't place an order for a few hours.

By that time, the est. delivery date had hit the end of February. After giving it a few weeks, I eventually gave up waiting, canceled, and built a hackintosh.

(Which I survived with through Mavericks and driver update hell - still have nightmares about getting 4K 60Hz to work - then relented and bought a fully loaded 8c Mac Pro anyway.)

NOW of course I have a complete "beat the rush" system worked out, consisting of site-primed Mac, iPhone with iOS Apple Store app, and a VPN on hand in case Apple's CDN starts playing favourites with who they give early access to (a la iPhone X). Got my iMac Pro ordered by 2 mins past release this time.

The pain of missing that Mac Pro 2013 order cut deep!
Apple PR said they’d be in stores “mid next week” i.e. this week, and some other people have claimed Apple said Thursday. I’m sure we’ll see some preconfigured models delivered before Christmas as they’ll already be waiting in the destination country.

I thought our taxes in Chicago and Illinois were bad...
You should see the price of pizza here, $40 for two medium Pizza Hut pizzas. I moved here not by choice & ouch. Sadly, I have about 3-5 months before the new electric rates go in effect effectively doubling my bill.

Locally, we won on the water. We were supposed to be charged extra for water in lawns by storm drain runoff measurements. Several of us brought up the fact that rain will go into the runoff. The city said it never rains here so that should not be an issue. We brought up the dam failure due to last years rain & the city actually said “what world do you come from, there was never rain to cause that.” Lying to all of us pretty much killed any support for that.

fwiw, my custom 10c/64GB/1TB/Vega64 has changed to "Preparing to ship" -- coming to Sydney, Australia.

Haven't been watching it like a hawk, just noticed the status in the Apple Store app when I went to look up something.

Hopefully that means a good chance it should arrive before the end of the year (although deliveries are hit & miss in the "silly season" in Oz -- almost everyone seems to go on holiday between Boxing Day and the day after New Years Day).

Update:

Emails overnight — shipped, invoiced, and tracked.

Delivery estimate still Dec 27. There is no Saturday delivery locally and 2 days just isn’t enough to get to Sydney, clear customs, and go on truck for delivery.

Congrats! Did you order the trackpad with it? If not, that was one of the standard configurations & should arrive about a week before the custom builds.

Both mouse and trackpad. (Both might stay unused as you can pry my Logitech from my cold, dead hands!)

You’re right, it was the 3rd recommended config - 10c/64GB/1TB/Vega64 - as viewed on the US site page (but strangely enough not the Australian, though I’m sure the factory doesn’t care).

Regardless, I’m pretty sure US bound shipments after mine will make it before mine, if nothing else you’ll get Dec 26 delivery, yes?

So with both the trackpad & mouse, you actually do have a custom config. Could you let us know where it ships from? The 2017 iMacs shipped from Texas when they were released. I'm assuming the pros will ship there too. I'd be curious if yours ships from the same location or another assembly point. I do actually regret not getting the black magic mouse & trying it again. My wife asked for it after I placed the order, but there's nothing I can do without bumping the order back with a reset.

I'm also agree with you, I love my logitech mouse.

Will do. At the moment the TNT tracking number resolves to a shipment from 3 months ago so I can’t see where it’s coming from. (Apparently the universe is running out of numbers, so we have to reuse them.)

However, almost every CTO I’ve ever ordered through Apple (Australia) has been assembled and shipped from Shenzhen, China.

Congratulations!

It seems that you are the first one with status “Shipped”.

Even more stunning that you have a Trackpad which all of them basically had a date of 2018.

There is hope that ours ship soon.

Congrats again!

I placed my order for the standard configuration, 2TB HD, Trackpad and mouse, Final Cut Pro bundle through the education store on 12/15/17. Estimated delivery 12/28/17-1/5/18 and it changed to preparing for shipment today at around noon. Suspect it will change to shipped soon and it could arrive on Friday. Shipping from China to Florida by 2-3 business day shipping. In the past when I had orders coming from China they usually get here within 1 -2 days. Fingers crossed.

Most all 8 and 10 core units in various configurations all show a 1-2 week delivery at this time. Going to the 14 and 18 core delivery goes to 6-8 weeks.

My guess is that anyone ordering the 8 or 10 core units in any configuration should receive them within the 1-2 week delivery estimate. This is telling me Apple and/or factory in China have got things rolling well and without annoying delays for people who ordered at release date/time and for those ordering today as well. IMO Apple has pegged the factory assembly effort and delivery estimates accurately for their perceived customer demand for this iMac Pro. End of year spending can be very important for some People/Orgs/Businesses.

I ordered my iMac Pro Dec 15 and will be expecting it to be delivered to me certainly by Jan 3, 2018, if not earlier. :)

That's amazing. Other than the weather, I can't see any reason to live there unless you're making hella high salary, like Google and Apple money.

Military for me
No problem, just tell them you want to serve somewhere else. That is how it works isn't it?
:)

That's certainly how it worked when I was in the British military. Oh wait, I think I may have that the wrong way round - was it that they told me where I would be based? And what to wear. Honestly, the nerve of some military organisations.

Thanks, it’s all in the wrist! ;)

I still can’t report a definite origin, as although I have a tracking number, TNT International lists the consignment as a 3 month old one.

My guess is the package has been assigned a shipping number and may even be waiting for a plane out of Shenzhen, but no scans have occurred yet so their system has no log to report.

In any case, even it was loaded on a plane now (end of business Thursday), it couldn’t make the flight to Sydney in time to clear customs and get loaded on a truck for Friday delivery. No Saturday delivery here and December 26 is a holiday. So December 27 is what Apple promised and December 27 it will be.

It’ll be interesting to see if any SKUs show up in the bigger Apple Stores in Australia, as they are rumored to be out on Thursday in the US.

Also, Pizza Hut large pizzas are $8 - $13 AUD here = $6 - $10 USD.

But I’ll sell you one for just 1 Bitcoin, that's a 99.99% discount off what pizzas normally cost!

Mine just change to preparing for shipment

That’s a good sign. Looks like they’re all going out in a steady stream, conveyor belt like.

Just a pity it’s smack in the middle of Christmas, both for the extra holiday day(s), and for the competition for air freight — so much volume this time of year.
