My custom iMac has finally arrived this morning. Not at my home just yet, but at the nearby UPS customer/sorting facility where I told them to hold it for pickup. Arrived exactly on time as originally estimated. A recap:

iMac, iMac - A Young AIO's Not So Erotic Journey from Cork to San Diego

August 4 - Order placed for custom iMac with the $2299 model with upgrades to the 5700XT, 1TB SSD, and keyboard with numeric keypad. Delivery estimate August 19-21. Education discounts applied as well.
August 8 - Apple charged my Amex. Web order details still show Processing.
August 11 - Apple tried to charge my Amex again for the whole amount, Amex declined for my protection. Web order detail progress stalled. Called Apple, they admit their system tried to over authorize and apologized as they already had my money but couldn't tell me why. Forwarded to payments team for resolution. But could take up to 5 business days? WTF.
August 12 - Payments team resolved the issue. Web order details are back to normal, progress bar back to Processing.
August 14 - Shipped from Cork to Shannon to Dublin to Cologne, Germany, all in the span of a day.
August 17 - Departs Germany, arrives in the UK.
August 18 - Clears customs, departs the UK and arrives at UPS Worldport in Louisville, KY. Single import scan.
August 18 - Departs Louisville and arrives in San Diego.
August 19 - Placed on truck and driven to UPS facility for customer pickup.

All in all a pretty quick and smooth journey and experienced no hiccups along the way. Taking the day off tomorrow to pickup and set up the new machine.

August 6th order:
i9, 5700 XT, 1TB, 10Gigabit.

Finally moved to "Preparing to Ship" at ~10:00AM EST.

Ordered the fastest stock 27’ on the 11th. I only changed the keyboard from french to American English, which pushed the delivery date from next day to August 19-26. Still ”Processing”. Really a strange.

It’s here!

So who knows where my BTO is now ... :)

The UPS tracking says it left Dublin almost 48 hours ago, but it has failed to arrive anywhere. Hell of a flight!

Meanwhile, UPS *also* claim they’re delivering by end of day today which means in the next 5 mins here in the UK.

Apple still suggesting Friday which feels more likely.

Frustrating

Also UPS. Unfortunately Apple doesn't give us the choice of UPS or Fedex. My package has been in transit for 31 hours.

I also got the “released by the customs agency” at 7:59. So strange!

Mine isn’t “out for delivery” yet but it’s at the the distribution center 15 minutes away! Yay!!!

It was nice to have others to ride the UPS roller coaster with! 😜 Enjoy your new iMac! ♥

Mine is in the truck, and I've been tracking it every half hour or so. It's just circling my block. Anyone else a little uncomfortable that the shipping box shows what it is?

They are in a brown outer box with a simple sticker that shows the Model No. and Serial No.

Oh good. For whatever reason I thought the iMac box was the shipping box. I know someone a few years ago who walked out of the local Apple store with an iMac and got it stolen out of his hands in about 5 seconds.

My experience with UPS is that often intermediate scans are not made (or not tracked), so although a package does not appear to be moving, it actually is.
For example, my iMac was "in transit" in Shanghai on 8/17, and went straight to "cleared customs" here (California) this morning (8/19), without any intermediate scans of departures or arrivals.
I actually wish I wasn't watching the tracking. It is more stressful thinking the package is lost or stuck, when it actually isn't. Hard to shake the addiction of checking the tracking!

When I worked for UPS in the 80s, they offered $5K to anyone who pointed out a coworker stealing a package. They didn’t mess around with that.

Just received my 2nd unit, this time from Amazon. Fingers crossed this one doesn't suffer from multiple KP errors and freezes.

My August 6th order just shipped. E-mail says delivery by the 27th. Hopefully that's a super conservative estimate..

Coming from Ireland to SE US.

I just received an email from UPS My Choice that the iMac shipment has been changed to next Tuesday (supposed to be arriving tomorrow). It has been stuck at customs for longer than I expected. The shipping type is UPS 2nd day air, so I'm not so sure about that.

In the exact same situation! (Think our iMacs must be bunk buds)

Apple just have me marked down as “arriving soon” so I’m not too sure what that means!
