Oh thank you! But the Automatic Login says "off" and is greyed out. Before I'd go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy and then I have unchecked Require Password under General.
You have to unlock the lock icon in the bottom right corner to have the option go from greyed out to available. Un lock it.

Just got my CTO iMac 27"! i7, 1TB SSD, and 5700XT.

Aaaaaaaand it won't power on. Totally DOA. Reset SMC, verified power outlet works, used a different power cable.

Totally dead. I've been an Apple user for 20 years and this is the first CTO machine I've ever purchased. Might be the last. Ha ha
My 4 matching sticks from OWC work great. I tried putting all in at once but she went into an early power up loop, not sure I would have heard it if an external drive wasn't powering on and off. So I put two sticks in the slots Apple used, zapped the PRAM and she booted fine. Next I simply added the other two sticks and she booted fine... and has ever since.

Hi,

Anyone here from Toronto Canada area? Just curious to know what delivery route your machine took? Mine is on the way from Shanghai China with a delivery date of 9/28. Ordered on 9/15; Apple quoted Oct 2-9. Fingers crossed 🤞🤞. TIA.

I live north of Peterborough and both of my orders took 14 days from order date to arrival. It went from Shanghai; to a Taiwan city; to Anchorage, Alaska; to Louisville, Kentucky; then Mount Hope, Ontario; and away to destination city. Somewhere in the middle there it will go to non-UPS broker for import, I've seen scans showing arrival in Mount Hope and then 30 minutes later departure from Louisville, so if it gets odd just wait a day.

Ok, so my machine shipped today from Ireland. Two questions, those who are getting theirs shipped from there, how long did it take to get to you and what part of the country are you in?

Second, are these units assembled in Ireland? Does this mean that a bunch of scotch aficionados are putting our machines together? It would explain all the DOAs. 😂

Another question. Apple registered the AppleCare I bought with it and shows it expires on 9/26. Why would they do that if the machine won't be delivered until 10/1, according to the estimate they provided in the email. Arrives "by" 10/1, so it could be earlier. Anyone else seen this?

Ordered mine 9/08; which was built in Ireland and ready for shipment on 9/10. From there, it shipped the next day, arrived at the local UPS hub here in NJ the day after, and scampered off to Kentucky for a long weekend before returning back to NJ in order to be delivered the next day, 9/16. Tracking history attached. Don't expect your mac to make a straightforward journey; when it seems to be just within reach is when it will be dangled tantalizing for about 4-5 days. No DOA for me; mine arrived with a little bash in the outer box, but the inner box was untouched. Still up in the air as to whether or not I will purchase AppleCare. Here's to a hopefully, uneventful arrival!

First, the visual of a bunch of drunks putting together iMacs is absolutely hilarious. 😂😂

Second, my daughter just bought a refurbished Series 3 watch with AppleCare+, and AppleCare activated on the 21st, but the watch only arrived today. Doesn’t make sense to activate the coverage before the customer even gets the product. I didn’t think that’s how it was done when I’ve ordered things in the past..

All of you guys are lucky to be getting your imac delivered so promptly. I ordered my 27 inch on 08/09/2020 from Apple Philippines. Same shipped to DHL facility in Singapore on
Monday, September, 21, 2020
According to Apple item will be delivered 19 October 2020. Obviously if you are in Asia you get treated differently or abominously. Apple have received the money and now you just have to sweat it out, they do not care. Plus they have the gal to say on their web site that if you order online you get fast (lol) delivery. Entrapment? False claims?
My imac will be staying with DHl for four weeks before being delivered. Imagine that!!!

For all those waiting on the new iMacs, I can confirm it's worth the wait. ;) I've been an adherent of a number iMacs, MBPs, MBAs, iPhones, iPads, etc. through the years and I'd say about 60% of the products have the "great" factor for, 20% "ehh," and 20% "wow." This is in the wow category. Really blown away with the snappiness, overall speed, simplicity of the setup and process, gorgeous screen and non-reflective, as well as zero issues with fans flowing, etc.

Well, some Irish scotch aficionado fell asleep on top of my iMac because the tracking number is "shipment ready for UPS" for the second day now. Wake up, you drunk fool. Toss that thing (gently) onto that damn delivery truck already!

(As a person of Polish/German origin, I am entitled to stereotypical "drunk Irish" jokes. It's a bond that forged a lasting friendship between our European cultures. We typically forget about it the next morning though, but still).

Be careful! Although some Irish might not take umbrage at being called a "drunk", they may be a little tweaked at the inference that their Whiskey is so bad that it's assumed they drink Scotch! <g>

Scotch is technically whisky. Plus, scotch has to come from Scotland and I figured I'd foster good international diplomacy considering they are neighbors. If I wanted to offend them, I'd say they are drinking Kentucky bourbon... It's like telling a German they are drinking Bud Lite... I'm pretty sure that's how WWI started. 😂

Oh, snap... I think I just ticked off the entire state of Kentucky.

Mine has been stuck for two days in some town in Germany, probably at a beer hall. :) In the meantime, I installed my old iMac backup on my MacBook Air and set my old iMac up for trade-in or resale, whichever occurs first. Got new memory for the new iMac plus SDXC card. Ordered with the Apple fullsize wireless keyboard but I'm not a fan of these Apple keyboards.

Ok, never mind. It's moving now. In "clearance in process."
Just wait until it gets to Louisville. The revenuers will never let it out of there unscathed after that comment about that thar corn whisky! <g>

Hopping on the 2020 iMac train now that the line issue has been fixed. I am excited, got the VESA mount version.

Well based on where I was, it was essentially a straight line with the exception of a stop in the UK.

Ireland
UK
Kentucky
Las Vegas Nevada.

I remember ours were on the same flight but mine went to Texas.
My box was in excellent shape, curious condition yours arrived?

Well. after nearly three days of heavy drinking in a beer garden in Germany, my new iMac managed to wobble over to Kentucky to swig down a few bottles of bourbon.

Ordered the 27” I7 w 512 gb drive, added 32 go of owc ram. My 2011 iMac died a few months ago, debated waiting but decided I like the form factor and would rather have the last intel iMac than the first apple silicon one

Packaged up my 2013 iMac for the Apple trade-in, hoping to see my new iMac this coming Tuesday if it can find its way to me from Kentucky. Using my Macbook Air, which I haven't really used in several years because when i travel these days, I take my iPad Pro instead. I replaced the battery on my MacBook a month ago, and it was easy-peasy except for the damned tiny screws involved. Lost one of them. :) I backed up my old iMac onto a portable drive and as an experiment, used the backup to "restore" my MacBook. Worked just fine. Whew! :)

You were right. It's stuck in Kentucky. Two days in a pub in Ireland, two days in a beer hall in Germany and now two days in Kentucky. How many drunk people doesn't take to deliver a Mac? 😂

No, but seriously, there seem to be a lot of delays. It's not just UPS and this particular package. It's happening with others, too. I'm sure it has something to do with covid. Maybe staff shortages, who knows.
