I like to go through the 24" iMac customization to see what slows it down the most. Right now all the upgrades just change listed ship time to the standard 1-3 days, except for the following:

-Upgrading the video card makes it 3-5 days (this has been the case for a while)
-Upgrading the RAM to 3GB makes it 7-10 days (presumably the delay is due to a shortage of 2GB DIMMs).

In addition to the U.S. store being down, the Canadian store at apple.ca is down as well. It also says it's updating!!!

I personally am not crazy about a revision as I JUST got an 20" imac 1 month ago... oh well, such is life!

Oooh! Ooooh! Canadian iPhone!

Oooh! Ooooh! 4GB RAM iMac needing two 2GB sticks!

:D

This would seem to confirm that we will be seeing at least something on August 7th.

This would confirm that someone doesn't know how to use Photoshop.

Now now, it's quite possible that in their haste and excitement to release information the design department at Apple just badly used the clone tool to replace the text on an old invitation instead of doing a new one. Shame on you for being so cynical.

:p

Hey, don't blame me... my brother's girlfriend's sister's dog's veterinarian's son's grandpa on the other side supposedly works for CNN and received this through the mail today and I got it through the grape vine... I guess there is no telling where it really came from... but this is mac rumors, so I thought I'd report just in case it's true... don't shoot the messenger.:apple:

Why can't they update their site without shutting it all down?
I believe it's due to the fact that when Apple updates hardware (i.e. expos, Macworld, etc...) - they don't want to update the page before the conference has ended. Still seems silly however that they need to take down the page to perform updates...

apple takes the site down just so that they can screw with us. they probably have macrumors up while they do it, just to see our response time.

Can't you just picture Steve looking at this forum to see how fast we post that the apple site is down?

I think he likes playing god too much.

...Right now all the upgrades just change listed ship time to the standard 1-3 days, ...

Unfortunately shipping details listed at - at least in CH and A - apple stores are not representative and liable informations and do sometimes not reflect the actual delivery time.

If they are going to have an event to release the new iMac (and iPods?), how far ahead of the event would they send out the invites?

If there's any chance of the new iMac being released August 7th, then Apple is going to be sending some invites out within the next few days for a media event.

I don't think a brand spanking new iMac will just pop up in the store. Apple always holds a big media event for the dramatic introduction of the product and to show it off. That's how it's always gone.

In other words, we won't get squat tomorrow...

You know what's going to happen? iMac with Leopard on October.

I know everyone is talking about thE 'back to school' market, but I think the current iMac is taking care of that anyway.....I lived in hope, but I really don't see it happening until the Autumn now.

The new iMac will get unveiled in Paris in September and hit the shops with Leopard in October.

Agree completely

I totally agree with you, a business as smart as apple doesn't seem like they'd release a brand new imac when their brand new operating system is right on the horizon.

What's probably happening is the new imacs will be officially announced on August 7th, for a release date of October __th when Leopard comes out.
