Hello all,
Just popping in to confirm the rumors. I am a manager to a large west coast electronics store. We've been asked by our buyers to clear out all of our remaining iMac inventory. We've been told not to expect any new inventory til mid-August.
So yes, definately new iMacs coming soon![]()

I hate it when people say things like that...
You have no idea whether they're talking bs or not
Then again, brand new member, and this is their 1st post, hmmmm....
If this is true, that adonized (or brushed - I for one got pretty confused) aluminum will look fanTAStic on the iMac... Now hoping for the option to add Nano/Shuffle-colours!
Not until mid-August? Damn. Let's hope that doesn't mean August 21st or something late like that.
Brushed aluminum looks like a paint brush was pulled through the metal when it was still "wet." It has streaks all through it. Anodized, on the other hand, looks more like a powder coated finish (what most Apple products are).
WAS the window style. Leopard throws away all the Brushed Aluminum UI dressing.Brushed Aluminum is the window style.
Probably ALL metal apple products. Brushed Aluminum is the window style.
Your buyers? What do you mean? Do you mean your suppliers, like Apple? Still, mid-August sound pretty late.
Sorry not to elaborate. Yes, by buyers I mean the folks at our home office whom talk to the manufacturers, in this case Apple. These are the guys who purchase the orders from Apple. They are also the guys who raise/lower the prices (not by a very large margin in Apple's case though) and decide if we will carry an item or discontinue one. They also give us a call at the store level when we need to clear out our remaining inventory.
They basically told us that we should not be expecting any inventory until mid-August. They gave us directions to be aggressive in clearing out old inventory and make necessary deductions on demo, open box, missing accessories, etc. instead of our normal markdown procedures. This has happened on every expected refresh of the line that I can recall.
Our company has a not-so-great relationship with Apple so we tend to get new products a few days to weeks after launch. If we're expecting new shipments mid-August, a 7th release date sounds correct to me.
BTW, I've been a lurker here for almost a year, and bought myself a MacBook 2 weeks ago to replace my G4 iBook. Just never had a reason to post before now.![]()
When I went there, I could still order, although some configs were shipping in 7-10 days (maxed-out 24"). Of course, that could be due to shortages of 2GB RAM modules or other components, or it could mean that Apple has stopped making the current model BTO 24 inchers.Check out this...

My biggest concern is the screen sizes and the GPU options that go with em. To say you have to buy a 24" screen to get a 7600GT class gpu is kind of sucky. Im wondering just how much they will handicap the 20 incher for the 24" sales. This is Apple afterall.
