Without comparing the current iMac to a newer product from another company, what's wrong with the current iMac?

What's wrong with a hydrogen atom? Everything *seems* great by itself.

It takes a world to shine or to suck. When you compare the earth to other realms, then that's something to think about.

Not really, since Samsung may get the sale of it blocked for violating LTE patents. Just saying.

Says what Judge? Samsung hasn't filed suit, nothing has been heard, no judgements have been rendered. You can't make any proclamations about anything. For all we know Samsung could be posturing - they may not have a case whatsoever and they know it but not care.

Price per performance is a joke. Not comparing to any other competitors. But just on parts alone, you can get everything in a base 27" iMac for half the price (and that was being quite generous). Sure, you can't get the case, the R&D that went into it, etc etc. But Apple probably pays way less for buying it in bulk, and their R&D has been more than paid by now. Every iMac sold at this point for them has to be pulling in an absurd amount of profit. Which makes it sting even more that they refuse to update.

No. Two iMacs = redundancy in case one fails during the keynote. Come on now. How long have you been around? They've always had redundant systems on stage. Even in the days when they used towers up there (one monitor, with two iSight cams attached).

You don't "show off performance" during a LIVE event, you need redundancy, period. You need to think before you post...or you're 12. Not sure which one.

Don't be like that, mate. Whitel4 is only speculating and having a bit of fun. Sure it might not be true, but it was a harmless post and you come along and get narky for no real reason.

Lighten up! it's only a computer.

Well, they talked about a phone I will be owning next Friday. Does that count?

Only you can answer that. Has it filled a void? No? I didn't think so. Trying very hard not to scream because although I am also going to have the new phone, the whole iMac wait has kind of spoiled the fun of the new iPhone for me. If that makes any sense

Well, my iPhone 4 is on its last legs, so it has, in fact, filled a different void for me.

If anything, the lack of secrecy on the iPhone 5 just made the announcement more boring than it should have been.

Have to say, not looked in any great detail but what do you feel about the lay press calling it iPhone 4S II? Is it fair?

The press expected Apple to be done with rectangles and start producing triangles.

Seriously, a lot of people expected a totally redesigned phone, but what Apple is doing is perfecting the design they already have. The design is quite good. It works perfectly well. It doesn't need a new design just to say it has one.

Going 4" on the screen, dramatically improving its use in direct sunlight by boosting color saturation, and including an LTE radio.. while losing an ounce and a couple millimeters, without hurting battery life, are fine improvements. I expect Apple to keep this design for quite some time. If you see something bezel-less, teardrop design, etc. like they thought the 5 would be last year, I expect it will be launched along side the current design, and not replace it.

I have exactly the same approach. I bought my first Apple computer 4 years ago (a 15'' MBP) and now I need to upgrade to an iMac but I want to wait until the new iMac comes out (I would like to have USB3). I just went on apple.com and ALL iMac's have 1-2 days delivery period....maybe something will be released soon. And that makes me think.... where is iPad mini? There were so many rumors about it recently that I was almost sure it would be presented yesterday. So maybe it will be soon introduced with new iMac.

I think there will be a separate Keynote for the iPad mini, not together with an IMac... Because the main focus of Apple are the IOS devices, not the Mac's...

Anybody think there will be a 24inch in the new batch of iMacs? I have a 24 early 2008 and love the size. I'm hoping for a 24 or 27 that comes in as close to 1000 dollars as possible. I know that won't happen, but here's hoping for a base 1300 dollar 24 model.
