I've been waiting since February. I decided it was time to retire my '05 Mac pro (with non-intel processor) for a shiny new iMac. Realized Ivy was coming out in April/May. Waited a couple months. Then waited another couple months for WWDC. then waited until today. I'm giving it one more month... and then...

Same here, except it's a 2006 iMac and I've made my decision in January. What makes it surreal is that not only I've been waiting for none months, but the still current generation was already seven months old when I started waiting for the new iMacs!

This sucks if they do not update the iMac before the end of October then thats it I'm going to buy the ASUS Transformer AiO 18.5" running Android and Windows 8 :)

Ugh, that is crazy to think about. I went on the MacRumors buyer's guide and I just did the math. If the iMac is not released before the last day of October, it will have been exactly double the amount of average days between releases.

We Mac Pro users did that same math a long time ago.

well its the refurb store or 2nd hand on eBay for me... then a decision to be made if/when a refresh/new model is released

Amazon is all out of all the iMacs in USA, there are other resellers that still have some but not from amazons own warehouses. Guys it's coming soon let's chill it.

I can live with that, imo Apple died even under Jobs when they sold out 100% to the iToys.

Back then though there was at least hope - many saw it coming and wondered if the company would split into two divisions. Too late now and God I wish it had.

But the real problem that I CAN'T live with is where to go? Still can't countenance Windows/PC as I've been using Macs since 1985. OSX is nose-diving, no pro machines, not even a bone thrown.....no easy answers.

I mean though how can you blame them? The iDevices at this point are bringing in at least 80% of the profit. I bet they make more money on selling an iPhone right after a release in one day then they do selling an iMac over a course of a year. It's simple math.

I noticed when reading the updates today Tim Cook was really stressing that we are in a post-PC era. The Macs will stick around as a sideline business, but the effort will go into the iDevices.

At some point if you really need a powerful PC you might have to look past the Mac and at a Windows PC. I think you have to remember that Apple has had a lot more success as a consumer electronics and lifestyle company then they had as a personal computer company. I can see this really driving their decision when it comes to product investment.

True, but that other 20% still makes up about 6 billion profit a year. They should not be neglecting anything at this point.

Also, sadly, true. *looks at Mac Pro* >_>

Yes, but that is just you guys. That of course could never happen twice. Apple never did that before so it cannot happen, etc. Just ask around here. They'll tell you.

The tea leaves now say October.

Hey, maybe it will be October. On the other hand it sure will be interesting on these forums come November if not.

I'm very happy with my 2011 iMac, but I can understand why people who wish to upgrade would like to see a new model after well over a year.

Lately I have started to get the gut feeling that the Mac is becoming to the iDevices what the Apple II became to the Mac. Time will tell if my feeling is correct.

I can see how you might feel that way but I think rumors of the desktop's demise are greatly exaggerated. There is probably always going to be a place for larger screen sizes, etc. I wouldn't worry too much about the Mac but I could see Apple not always needing to refresh annually eventually.

Well stated.

It's not like the iMac clamor is happening in September of 2011, after all. Without searching forum threads I'm sure there was a little bit of that and the complainers were (rightly) shouted down as being far too impatient with that time frame. But it's OVER A YEAR LATER now.

For perspective: The last time the iMac was refreshed, we didn't even know my wife was pregnant with my third kid yet. He is now WALKING and approaching his first birthday. Yeah.

Apple's solution to that seems to be 'buy a portable and add an external monitor' though. So it is very likely they are attempting phase one of completely phasing them out.

I hope not. I dislike the keyboards and trackpads on portables. I would also dislike the expense of that solution for home computing. I hope I have enough company that this way of doing things does not become the norm.

I've been considering the same too, but with each passing day it makes less and less sense, especially as they seem to be really around the corner. Then again with each passing day my frustration grows...

My thought is that iMacs hold value pretty well so even if I sell after a few.months to upgrade to the latest refresh I can still recoup the lions share of my outlay

I'm sure I'd be very happy with the 2011 iMac but right now I'm not willing to spend $2299 AU plus upgrades on the top 27" model knowing we could be weeks from a new better spec model at the same price, or less.

Ironically if I was upgrading every 1-2 years then I'd get this one but I'm likely to keep it 4-5 years, so I want it to last.

I have exactly the same approach. I bought my first Apple computer 4 years ago (a 15'' MBP) and now I need to upgrade to an iMac but I want to wait until the new iMac comes out (I would like to have USB3). I just went on apple.com and ALL iMac's have 1-2 days delivery period....maybe something will be released soon. And that makes me think.... where is iPad mini? There were so many rumors about it recently that I was almost sure it would be presented yesterday. So maybe it will be soon introduced with new iMac.
