iMac to Come in Both Dual-Core and Quad-Core Configs?

Mac Pro, iMac and mac mini all at the same time

if mac pro based Xeon EP cpus are ready by end of march and if iMac goes desktop; we should believe all the three will be updated at the same time.

and poor mini will eventually will get Core 2 duo and all the goodies (since iMac and Mac Pro become monster machines!)

march end at the latest! bring it on Apple!.

Well here's a new information, a user wrote that he was talking with a service guy from apple ... (http://www.macuser.de/forum/4909361-post454.html)

At the beginning or middle of April new iMacs are available. There won't be matt displays, only glossy ones but with LED background lightning (24").

I'll wait till April ... Just wanted to buy an 24" today but i'll wait.

April now... that sucks... I know it is only a rumor, but still. I dont think I can wait until april for an iMac. Was going to wait until end of Feb beginning of March, but April is to long.

I agree, we have been waiting and now we will wait a little longer. now that the date is out there and the SL OS is coming a used G5 Imac(great for the kids) price should drop quickly......?

Did Apple send out an official press release with this information about April  keep in mind that the new Mini has been coming out every month for almost two years now

Two years worth of Tuesdays lol :)

Maybe a mega march. Apple have done 'the lets roll out one thing a week for a month', a couple of times before.

I just translated what the guy told in a german forum. I experienced the same thing yesterday. I wanted to purchase an imac by phone and asked if there are new ones on the way. Sure, there aren't *haha* BUT he asked me if i want CTO options, if so he can't guarantee me a delivery date. Without CTO options there are iMacs on stock. Well that's pretty the same the guy in the german forum was told.

G5 PowerBooks next Thursday, too...

I'd just as soon see Apple go exclusively quad-core on the iMacs, since that's what would be required for them to "keep up" performance-wise with much of the rest of the world. We shall see...

it looks like Apple is trying to follow a 12 month or close 12 month cycle than update the systems once new CPUs available; thats what Phil also told in one of the interview also.

exceptions though macbook and macbookpro; they were updated whenever newer cpus from intel available . but now there are newer (faster) CPUs available (for the same price points) but not updated yet

there is some time patten to this, we shall know in couple years.

Atleast the old macs keep their values longer with fewer update each year :)

Yeah, it looks like it's changed from previous years.

Looks like the notebooks are getting updated much more often than the desktops.

It's a pretty small speed bump that only affects the top two CPUs (at least the 35 W ones). We could see an update in the spring after the next small speed bump.

Apple Australia currently have a special rebate offer that gives iPod and Mac buyers a $179 rebate. That ends on the 13th of April, a Monday.. Is it possible that the new Macs will come right after this offer ends (14th of April, a TUESDAY?)

But Tuesday at Apple HQ is not until after close of business on Tuesday for Apple Australia. so the promo could run until the Tuesday.

Oh and involve at least someone at Apple Australia being told anything about release schedules. Well at least more than 2 weeks out.

FWIW, I stopped by a Apple store in CA and the dude told me he was expecting something by the end of the month. Whoever said the refresh is coming after 2/24 is right.

Embarrassing Apple marketing

Is anyone else getting email from Apple, promoting their iMacs ("With beauty, brains, and now, more brawn")?

I'm hoping that this (embarrassingly pathetic) marketing, trumpeting their circa 2007 mobile cpus as 'brawny' is an indication that they're trying to clear the channel for an immanent update to 2009 technology.

I'm sitting on a pile of cash for a Mac Pro for work, and an iMac for home, but Apple won't see a dime from me until they update their desktop hardware.

Cheers

This waiting is getting ridiculous

I think its hilarious! the only non all in one real desktop made by Apple starts at $3000!

Still you guys stand behind them the most loyal fan base in the history of the world!

Apple the "corporation" reminds me of the days when Hitler name the VW the "peoples car" and forced the people to drive it. The only problem with Apple is that the products are not affordable so that the average Joe cannot buy them.

Apple the "corporation" release products that we as consumers and professionals enjoy, want. How is this any different to visiting a playstation forum at the advent of a new console release?

Nobody is forcing people here to use a mac, it is our choice and we are free to make it. Your analogy fails.

The products are not affordable! if they were then why are thousands waiting for a Mac Mini update? I'm sorry did I miss the Apple press release stating new products are about to be released? please post a link here so that I can read all about the new machines.

I doubt there are thousands waiting for the update. A majority of people looknig to buy a mini probably don't even know anything about a possible update and are still happy to pay the money for them.

At no point did i mention in my post anything about information on a new release. I simply made a comparison with another area where people would be posting on a forum in anticipation of the release of a product based on rumours with no official announcement.

The majority of people waiting for the new Mini aren't waiting because it is the cheapest Mac, but because of its size. Ideal as a wee server, or even as a more powerful Apple TV like.

Regardless of why they are waiting it is currently the most affordable Mac for the average Joe on a strict budget. Even the base model iMac is way out of reach for the average family in today's economy.
