A month ago I bought the new 500MB model of the Time Capsule, with an eye toward upgrading the hard drive to a 1TB model. hmm! Right now 2TB disks are $300, which is crazy. But those wonderful 1.5TB drives are looking mighty attractive, so... hmm, prolly go that way

How do you like the 500GB model? Can I ask how you use the TC? Wireless printing? Drive sharing? Compatibility with Windows machines ok?

I heard you can partition the drive as well ... use one partition for backups and the other for shared storage, for example.

I need teased before I spend. :p

:apple:

Makes sense that they would do this eventually. They need to get rid of the 500GB and make this the new high end.

I'm not posting anything worth while, but oh well

i might be missing something here... but with an AEBS and 2 1TB externals... isn't that MUCH cheaper than the 1TB Time Capsule?

This looks shopped.

I love my 1 TB. Got one for work and one for home. Use all the functions apart from using it with windows.

You can't partition a TC disk. You can partition an external connected to a TC I think.

But you can allocate e.g 300GB to TM, on an TC internal drive. How? I think you can create a 300GB disk image, put it on the TC, and then point TM to that for backing up. It won't go over the 300GB.

Possibly. I considered it, but the TC won as it used less power, was less clutter, and did more than the AEBS.

Time Capsules are wayyyyy to expensive.

Apple really needs to revisit their pricing strategies.

Their strategies seem to be serving them well actually, but I agree, TC is currently priced too high. Then again, so is everything just before a price drop.

The pricing was good when they first came out: I priced out a home-made Frankenstein combination of drives and routers with the best discounts I could find and came up with a solution just slightly cheaper than a Time-Capsule--and far more complex to configure and use. So I went with a Time Capsule and it has been great.

Currently, a home-made solution would actually be enough cheaper to tempt me.

Better yet... I'll just wait for the 4TB to be cheaper than the current 1TB!

If Apple were to sell the 2TB at $500 it would be a very fair deal. This is based on a WD 2TB bare drive for $319 at OWC. And with the Time Capsule you get an Airport Extreme built in. That's another $179.

I wish Apple would enable a Time Capsule/Airport Extreme functionality into a combo Mac Mini or Apple TV -- would be great to have less boxes...

It would make sense if Apple did. If true, I hope they get rid of the 500 GB and move the price slots down instead of adding an extra one though. Still, the image does look of slightly dubious quality.

Fake It just is fake Why would Apple release a brand new Product and Go back in time per say i,e Not do dual band that isn't really smart Plus the Box would be very easy to Photo Shop

Come on guys your smarter then that

oy vey, I just purchased a 1TB, at what will probably become the 2TB price. They are too expensive, but the wireless router and associated software is the bomb, much better than anything i've used.

That would be nice... 2TB of backup storage! It's obviously in the works, this is technology. The question is when, not if it's being worked on! Bet the price is going to be > $599.

haha sue them!

srsly, I would order up a 2tb TC if they had one

Just curious, but is it possible to attach a large HD via USB if the Time Capsule HD become full? I know on Airport Extreme Base Stations it is possible to add a HD to it and make it a wireless backup drive (with some tweaking, although Apple does not support it), so is it possible to simply extend a 500 GB or 1 TB Time Capsule?

It's simple to upgrade your current time capsule

Many have done it- If you have any time capsule, you can peel off the bottom, removed the screws, and replace the old hard drive with your own 2 Tb western digital internal hard drive. Simple.

Yeah, well, MacRumors is the authority for news, so this thread supersedes that. :D

Still would be nice to give some credit to whomever found or posted about it. It is not the first time it happens anyway. I post very little these days here for a reason.

Does this mean it's going to take 4 days to backup now instead of 2?

Seriously apple, instead of increasing space, how bout make it possible to backup a 100 gb drive in a few hours instead of days...

What about the MacBook Pro

I'm still waiting for the MacBook Pro to get a current generation hard drive. 300g is too small. It's time Apple kept up with the market. There should be a 500g drive in the 17 inch pro.

Apple you're losing SALES.
