It is there for sure

I check it and the site does shows the box as 2 TB. One of the pictures of the box does not show the size and another one does. They are also selling two versions (old and newer simultaneous band version). Make sure you order the one you really want. The cheaper one is the older version.

perspective

I like how the perspective of the box is 3/4 to the right while the perspective of the actual time capsule is straight on. :D

No, they aren't. Anyone intelligent enough to want/need a larger hard drive is intelligent enough not to buy a hard drive from Apple.

I can feel the realism here. As an aside, is it possible to upgrade my 17" MBP's HD to something better than 150GB? I own the MBP 2,1; 2.33GHz bought a couple years ago. I sure don't want to void my warranty this final year, and could sure benefit from the added space.

Yeah, I could boot to an external drive, but the external drive wouldn't be a valid drive to backup with Carbonite or Mozy; so ... just looking at practicality here.

Many have done it- If you have any time capsule, you can peel off the bottom, removed the screws, and replace the old hard drive with your own 2 Tb western digital internal hard drive. Simple.

You are correct. However don't you end up voiding your warranty if you open the unit?

Yes, it is possible that they may not notice if you replace the old disk back when you send the unit for service. But what if they have some way of detecting you opened the box?

Fake?

Looks like Photoshop to me...
It isn't very hard to make something like this...

Maybe 4 TB?

I wish Apple would enable a Time Capsule/Airport Extreme functionality into a combo Mac Mini or Apple TV -- would be great to have less boxes...

you can do that.

it's called internet sharing, and when you set up a network you can share files -> so you could access the mini's hard drive AND access it's connected externals.

I don't like the idea of peeling the bottom off. You know how these things go - it's never as well stuck as it was. It'll come off eventually, and the poor attachment will make it obvious that you opened the device.

Time Capsule is too limited, Apple needs to change it into this but with Apple's design:

Agree with the concept. Time Capsule serves a difference purpose.

Hopefully Apple will come out with their own version of a mini server.

In the interim, I guess a Mac Mini with external HDs is one solution to consider.

Great minds think alike! :)

Seems like there is a void that Apple could create product for. With iTMS and increased DL'ing of video material, storage space is needed. With iTunes you can already stream video around the home so a mini server of some sort would make sense.

you can do that.

Yep, this is one alternative.

The nice thing about this is that you can access your Mac Mini like as a headless server. Plus the Mac Mini has FW800 so you can access the external HDs faster than with USB.

I agree. And a price conscious person would merely buy an Airport Base Station and an external. The 2TB drive will be dinky in 2 years.

The HP idea is excellent. I wouldn't buy it, but I can understand the utility of such a server. Wasn't Apple talking about doing something like this for a while now?

If this is true, it would be a nice addition to the lineup. 2TB would be great for a backup since I have to really pick and choose what I currently back up on my 250MB FW drive.

Now if we could just get them to offer this for less that the current 1TB model, I'd be all over it in a minute.

Wouldn't really surprise me given that both Western Digital and Seagate now have single 3.5" standard size 2TB drives available. Apple can probably just swap the new drive in without any other changes.

I would just get the 500. Replacing drive is easy

That would be nice... 2TB of backup storage! It's obviously in the works, this is technology. The question is when, not if it's being worked on! Bet the price is going to be > $599.

I added a 1.5 tb drive to mine. I got the drive for 117 at fry's.

500 GB for multiple computers is laughable. At those price points, Apple should be offering 2 TB and 4TB, not 500 GB and 1 TB.

Never having used time machine-it wasnt clear to me- can you just store large drag and drop files into it-or do you have to back up your whole HD?

The only drive that Apple could put in there is Seagate's 7200.11 2TB drive. Don't they normally put higher quality drives in their products?

Steve wants us to live the dual band lifestyle.

Where do I get that furniture, anyway?
