I never had a true backup until TC came along. I would backup specific data but never the whole harddrive. TC is fantastic for that. However, having already purchased an Apple Airport of the N variety, I just plug a far cheaper LaCie rugged into my MacBook Pro. The selling point of the TC HD is multiple computers and that's nice. However a 1TB HD costs just over 200 bucks at the moment so from my point of view Apple would have to be more aggressive on the price.

I use a NAS and stream all my movies, I only sync tv shows. The 160 seems to be enough. Kinda would like better graphics (higher bitrates).

What NAS are you using? I have a Netgear - but never really got it working properly with AppleTV.

why would they bring the price down just for some tiny little TC update?? this has to be something bigger... (or maybe just a conincidence)

Bigger and Better me hopes. Remember they might be doing XServe update ;-)

I currently use a dns323 with 2 1T drives (raid 1). I would like to replace it with a 4 or 5 drive nas but that is for the future. I still have about 120G left on this. Really like the qnap products.

As to how I did it, all I do is make sure it connects to the drive on login, then made a symbolic link to the itunes folder that is there.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

This is pretty interesting. I'd love to have a 2 TB time capsule.

Maybe this is an opportunity for Apple to start cutting their prices. With the release of these "Laptop Hunters" ads from Microsoft, perhaps Apple has finally realized that it's time for some big pricing adjustments. No better way to start than with external components like the Time Capsule. :D

NZ Store is down, surely they wouldn't pull the whole store just for a Time Capsule update? Apple TV update or some bigger?

Not until summer

We won't see another TM upgrade until at least mid to late summer. After apple had to issue all those store credits for the 4gb iPhone 1g they will think twice before doing upgrades this close together.

I know quite a few people probably jumped on the new TM with the dual-band and apple would hear a huge outcry from that group if they were to upgrade within a matter of one or two months unless they offered free upgrade, which I do not see happening. So just wait, they will come eventually, but not until at least July.

Interesting... I just got a MobileMe email about a special on the 500GB Time Capsule, #30 off the $299.... brining it to $269... hmm could this be an attempt to phase it out? $269 isn't too bad of a deal. I should also note that it is for MobileMe members only.

i just got that email too!

LOL, same. Then I came here, wondering who else had gotten it.

All part of their ploy to get more people to upgrade to Leopard, even though Snow Leopard is eminent and to perhaps purchase a 500GB TC to deplete stock prior to End-of-Life'ing it.
