I really hope there is something about the antenna bands/breaks that we are missing.

I'm crossing my fingers that these are manufacturing prototypes to calibrate the machines, and will be replaced with something else later.

Does liquid metal allow radio waves to pass through?

I know its MacRumors and I love it - but enough with these parts. So, its a new part, looks slightly different than the older ones. Unless it demonstrates something strikingly new, something relevant (and I don't mean that the volume button is now 5 mm lower - Gasp) than just let it go or put it into a "New Parts" thread somewhere...

i'm willing to bet it will not come out with those hideous bands. surly someone who was in charge of the design see's what we're seeing....right?

It's possible the bands will be replaced with something else (e.g., Liquidmetal or something else more finished). Anything is possible but I'd also bet on those just being placeholder parts for now. If I'm wrong, I'm sure the finished product will look good; Apple has not yet released an ugly iPhone (but there's a first time for everything).

It's like the gold iPhone 5s. Before it was released many people thought it would be ugly but it turned out to look quite nice.

There is a reason we haven't seen the FCC markings - the US government just made it so they can be digital and not printed on small electronics.

See: https://www.macrumors.com/2014/07/11/apple-fcc-labels/

That headline says "may". Is it a for sure thing? Also none of these leaked cases have shown any other wording like "designed by Apple in California" or model number or IMEI number. Who knows how close to the final product this is.

an illuminated Apple logo for alerts or even an outline illumination on the logo would be awesome. Using the Flash as an LED notification is barbaric...I can't even believe apple built in a setting for this, its not elegant at all. What would be even cooler is an illuminated ring around the Touch ID and also an apple on the back that can glow for alerts.

Every time I see one of these pics with those god awful white lines I cringe. I can't imagine many people liking it.

This is a rumour site so no point whining about rumours spoiling things for you. No offence of course.

But, the MACrumors seem to be getting less and less these days... Pity. Bring on an updated MAC mini

Is there something actually wrong with the depicted antenna bars, or is that just a hilarious meme I missed out on, like "Safari is snappier"?

What should be different about them? I don't get it. Thinner? Thicker? Radio-opaque etal? Do people truly care? It's a line--it's the most minimal level of detail that a necessary part can have. The glass antenna bars on my iPhone 5 are massive in comparison. Which looks better? It's a wash to me. My only opinion, unchanged for years but highly subjective: black looks better than white.

If people do seriously mind those plastic bars, how did they not pitch a tireless fit over the way the iPhone faceplate has stuck out, asymetrically vs. the rear face, on every iPhone (except the 5C) since the iPhone 4? :p

People thought it would be ugly because of all the stupid designer mockups that made it look much more gold than champagne.

I'm holding out hope that those breaks only look like that because of the way they're manufacturing these things and there is still some "finishing" that occurs that de-uglifies it. The FCC logos aren't on there yet so that gives me hope we are not looking at the final product.

I do mind them that much actually. The don't fit with apples design philosophy IMO. No single design element should attract so much attention. I find it hard to look away from the breaks, and that's a bad design move. Again, my opinion.

I almost never "rock" a case on my i5. Because it's gorgeous. It's not the i4, but it's pretty. Personally, it's not the bands that bug me so much, it's the "window" inside them that makes them ugly.

Someone is trolling hard with these fake parts.
Making some decent money, I suspect.

This would be very cool.

Even if the antenna breaks are real… assuming they are… why would they go with White plastic on a champagne colored phone??? You'd think they'd pick a not so obvious color???? Something seems not right about that. I hope anyway. :)

The design continues to grow on me more and more....just like the iPhone 5 design did, especially after it was finally unveiled and we got to see the finished product in beautiful marketing shots.

The same thing will happen here guys, get over it. People had the exact same reaction to the "ugly" glass inlays on the 5 when the first shots leaked.

What's the nicest/best looking prototype you've seen?

I like this one

this is what I think too.. those ugly bars can’t be left as we see them .... even if they are needed , surely they can blend the colour with the iPhone’s colour

The Apple logo is not going to be illuminated. Do you guys really sit your phone on your desks screen down? Does flipping your phone over to see if you have a notification sound appealing? It's common sense. The rumor of an illuminated ring around the touch ID sensor made more sense.

Anyone else that would love a 4.7 inch iPhone but with the original aspect ratio they had until iPhone 5?

Regarding the bands, we still have not seen a rear shell with the FCC markings, model numbers, etc. These are likely prototype shells.

That said, I don't recall prototype leaks being significantly different than the final builds - at least not enough to indicate that the bands will go away.

I doubt they’ll go away, the antennas need to go somewhere. But I’m holding out hope that they’ll end up thinner than we’re seeing here.

Thanks for this post, exactly my thoughts. It is a new design and it looks Apple like.
And everyone who cries about those lines should read it, look at the back of your iPhone 5/5s, those glass plates are even more conspicuous.

I guess I'm weird - *yes*, I always put my phone on the table face down. I don't like the lit face staring up at me . . .

. . . and, yes, I always press the lock button anyway to turn off the screen :D
