Shocking!

I'm more surprised that serious mac news sites published the photos in the first place when they were so hideous to begin with.
It's not a hideous design... it's just (pretty obviously) not something that J. Ive had been involved with. Anyone who thinks that "not Apple's house style" automatically makes something "hideous" doesn't have much of a sense of design themselves; they're just parroting that they like what they've been told to like.

That pic is fake.
See how the lower corner of that phone look ?
Its liner perspective ain't right AT ALL.
It's obviously a photoshop mokup of one of the previous images to make it look like the guy's holding it.

FAKE,
This is no counterfeit phone.
This might actually be the iPhone HD...
Put down the crack pipe.

Man, looking at those pictures from the last post, I don't know how ANYONE who owns Apple products made in the last 5 years could ever believe this was an Apple design. Blech.

Totally agree, it's the opposite of Ive

Bahahahaha... fan-freakin-tastic. Exactly as predicted! Congratulations to all the people that called it a fake, well deserved victory!

What's funny is how credible the "random" person is!!

I mean, Engadget is speculating because it's news......and now because some guy says he bought it as a KIRF, we write it off as if it's 100% fact.

We lend too much credibility to the average "tipster". They are rumors for a reason......well, that's what she said.

It was posted as a potential prototype. A prototype doesn't have to look like the finished product, it just has to work like it. :apple: could make a hideous prototype, and the iPhone-type connector instead of the generic USB is what made this rumor a little bit believable.
I bet there were prototypes of all past iPhones that looked just as bad.

I really doubt it's a Japanese fake, more likely a Chinese produced knockoff that was purchased in Japan. Japan isn't really known for producing counterfeit items any more, they still have problems with stores selling them though. I've seen a few news reports about stores selling fake Louis Vitton items and stuff.

+1 I lived in china and japan....

hard to find knockoffs in japan,
hard to NOT to find knockoffs in china

Ok people lets please not pretend that if Apple actually did release that phone you wouldn't think it was the best looking phone in the history of mankind and be hanging off Ives nutsack saying how you love it and its so magical

99% of the time I respect opinions I disagree with.

You are the rare 1% that I feel comfortable telling "you are wrong" without any qualifications.

Nah, he's right for sure. People lap up anything with Apple written on it.

Oh, and this won't be made in Japan. Definitely a Chinese fake... Japanese phones are more advanced than the iPhone anyway.

Ay, Carumba! You are right! We don't think for ourselves! At first I thought it was fake because it didn't look like Apple but now that you've corrected us, we know that we only thought so because we are too dumb to realize that it could have been real.

Solid logic there.

Ow, my brain hurts. Polly wanna cracker!

Put down the crack pipe.

Seriously !
As stated above, this might be just a prototype, and might not look like the ACTUAL iPhone HD.
Maybe they're trying out things on a new design..
You have to agree that brilliant Glass-back could very well be from Apple !
I mean, look at that finish ?!
Have you ever seen a fake that rounded ?
It's really looking like this millitary-manufacture Apple is known for.
Just talking about the finish here.

And if we go even further,
Why isn't the guy showing its fake phone turned on ?
If you're gonna be suspicious to supposed-leaked pictures, you gotta be for supposed-fake victims pics as well..

Knew if was a rip-off. Though I suggested China. Japan, who knew?

+1

The design clearly isn't very Ives like. Apple is all about tapered edges these days. But that iPod connector gives pause. What knockoff is going to use an iPod connector? Unless it just looks like an iPod connector but is really just a widened opening for USB...

I didn't even bother posting in that epic thread yesterday!

I knew that thing was fake...
