Kind of an interesting idea, but still no thanks. Especially with Lightning port charging on the iPhone 14 Pro models supporting as high as 27 watts if you have a USB-C PD 3.0 compliant charger with 30 or more watts initial charging rate support, and likely as high as 40 watts initial charging using the rumored USB Type C port with the iPhone 15.

It's kind of ironic that all of this wireless charging nonsense is essentially just trying to replicate docking functionality we've had forever (minus the pins):
I dont agree entirely, inductive charging is super useful, but I will say that the pogo-pinned iPad connector + magnets on my air that connects to the magic keyboard, basically an even more "wireless" version of your post, is slicker in many ways than qi/magsafe for true docking functionality (would be slicker still if it passed along usb and not just keyboard signalling and power but c'est la vie)

The stones on this guy. Gets his hands on an unreleased Apple prototype and straight up asks on Twitter how to use it. And gets answers. That’s actually pretty funny.

I’m still waiting on a replacement for MagSafe duo with fast charging.
I picked up one of these, been super happy, may not be quick charge but since most of the use for a product like this is travel or overnight doesnt really bother me and it's way better than the duo is (not to mention cheaper) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09FKZGSSK/

It’s time for Apple to take charging to the next level. The industry standard wireless charging system is not enough. That’s why Apple did MagSafe. But it’s not enough either. They have been working on some solutions that are really solutions. I hope that we see some of them soon. The iphone 15 gives them a chance to go in a different way. I hope that they take it.

Who says it was to be called "magic"? A magic moniker suggests communication ability--as in Bluetooth, not just the RFC in the MagSafe Wallet and cases. Magic gets more attention though. Congrats.

Since the AirPods Pro 2 can be charged with either Magsafe and the Watch Puck, I do not see any need for the Watch needing a separate charger

I'm not seeing what the big attraction is. There are already better third party solutions out there such as this:

@Kram Sacul I don't get the laughing reaction. Are you seriously telling me the design you see in the OP is better than this? If so, then THAT deserves a 🤣

So it's "nonsense" just because the general concept is not revolutionary? LOL! Obviously there's always going to be some wired connection to a power source somewhere in the chain, but the point is the phone itself connects wirelessly.

So you can't put an iPhone on it in it's normal, vertical orientation.
If you put it horizontal as designed, your iPhone lock screen/clock won't display correctly, let alone the home screen doesn't support horizontal layouts.

Can't believe it was even a prototype with that sort of thinking.

On the rare occasions when it's some kind of emergency, I just plug my phone with a Lightning cable into a higher-wattage charger to get it topped up fast. The rest of the time I just lay it down on my old slow Qi charger overnight and it's at 100% in the morning.

Believe it or not, sometimes people lay their phone down and (gasp) don't look at it for a while.

What is so "magic" about this charger?
Heck what is so "magic" about the "magic mouse", "magic keyboard" & "magic trackpad" anyway?
The Magic Mouse was quite a departure from most mice, with the entire top being a touch surface, allowing for gestures. The rest? Just name tie-ins, like putting “i” on the front of everything - iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad. It says, “this is related to that thing you already like”. Quite understandable branding.

Personally, I find the Magic Trackpad pretty nice to work with.

Is this Apple cracking down on leaks?
Won’t happen.
Apple can crack down on software leaks, and they have seeing as pretty much every year we know very, very little about the next versions of their operating systems until they are announced.
Hardware though? Not exactly possible, especially at the scale they are at.
Also, it’s kind of hard to stop iPhone or whatever leaks when you’ve got Apple, Samsung, LG, BOE, Sony, QUALCOMM, TSMC, etc all contributing different components.

This is not a product Apple would release. The iPhone charging spot is too high on the phone. The moment you tilt this up you could only charge the phone in landscape mode. Fake product. I can't imagine this is even a prototype. An Apple product wouldn't get to this stage without someone realizing the function fail here.

Did someone whisper marketing gimmicks?
Don't know why they call it magic, but this looks to be a nicely updated version of the Magsafe puck which looked like a UFO. This version is much more compact and handy. I like it -- a lot!
