The new design ISN’T radically different and thats part of why so many seem to be pissed. It’s an evolutionary design refining the previous design. In evolutionary terms it is the next logical step: thinning the chassis, slimming the bezels and enlarging the display. Yes the chin remains, for entirely logical reasons, and yet it is proportionately slimmer than that on the previous design. The pedestal doesn’t look quite as sturdy as the previous design, but then the new iMac weighs less than before.

So many convinced themselves conjectural images simply had to be true that it became a cemented expectation. Consequently anything other than what was expected is seen as a failure wrapped in bitter disappointment.

It’s fine to not care for the new design or the colour scheme, but the over-the-top negative reaction is simply ridiculous.

Valid points but it's worth pointing out that space grey is one of the iPad Air colors.

The real question is whether Apple would make a Space grey laptop with white bezels and a white keyboard or will there be one laptop color with those in black?
I’m sure the MacBook Pro 16 will have a black or space grey option with black keys etc.

Apple has never added bright colours for laptops aimed at pros. They have always maintained a professional look.

The old PowerBooks were black plastic, then Titanium and then Aluminium. During this time the more consumer oriented iBooks and MacBooks had bright colours, then the white era before joining the aluminium look.

Yep. I think the tiers of laptops will be colored similarly to the iPadPros/iPadAirs and iPhones/iPhonePros.

I just wish they'd round the edges of the top cover, even slightly like on modern iPhones, to make long sessions more comfortable.

Even more importantly, I hope they add a mm or so more space between the keyboard and the screen so the keys don't transfer fingerprints to the screen.

I understand not everyone will like the design and that is fine but, saying it looks cheap just because of the different color doesn't seem practical to me, especially when we know the CPU is built to conquer.
light bezels seem to emphasise the distance between the LCD and the bezel, much more than black ones, which looks less well-built. That's less of an issue when there isn't the extra thickness of a touch sensor, but it still doesn't look quite as tidy.
I prefer the bolder colors from the back of the new iMacs. Or better yet the color line-up of the 4th gen iPod Nano.

This pastel garbage feels like they raided an Easter sale.
Bolder colours would look nicer, but I've found the paint tends to polish off the palm rest after a couple of years, and that would look more obvious on a bolder colour. Perhaps with a glass surface like the back of an iPhone it would work (and it would be more resistant to pitting too).
I think EVERYONE wants [the glowing apple] back!
But do they want it enough for a separate light, light blocking, and so on. On old macs it was just the backlight glowing out a translucent patch, but without even illumination it would look weird.

I mean... if Apple can't figure out how to illuminate their logo why would we trust them to build a computer?

MagSafe and the glowing logo are the two primary things I want them to bring back.

I like space gray. I don’t like silver, and I don’t want prominent colors on my devices. I also don’t like white bezels.

If you need to call me names over this, such as “insecure” or whatever other nonsense I’m reading here in the comments, then I really don’t get you.

Why can’t someone just not like certain colors without you judging them?

Nobody sane would ever judge somebody for liking or disliking something so benign as color options.

But enforcing opinions usually works both ways. And therein lies the rub.

Personally I love the new colors. They looks fresh, youthful. I would never ever, ever own such a computer (I do use the ocasional black / product red combo) but I will enjoy seeing them around.

These colors are for children not professional working adults.
I am a professional working adult and would have no problems using one of these colors in my daily business. Life is too short for everything to be boring and colorless! Lighten up and live life in color!

There’s probably always gonna be silver option for your boring personality. I may even add some stickers to this like I do all the others. - Signed, A professional working adult
He he...I'd add stickers to mine too...guess that makes us children! Oh well, I'd rather be a happy child than a boring grumpy adult!

This is exactly what the MacBook Air needed: iMac-like colors and a USB-C port on both sides!

Funny reading the meltdown over this. It was never going to have a white notch.

Prosser just completely guessed it would be a laptop version of the iMac. His biggest misfire so far.

I actually went to apple.com to check if this was true.

They really should do similar color palette as iPhone silicone cases.

It's too bad, though. As I was looking at the colorful iMacs, I realized that no matter how pretty they are, most of the world has moved on to laptops. Are only libraries and schools going to get those colorful computers? Then I saw the artwork for colorful MacBook Airs with the slogan, "The amazing new iMac, to go", and it clicked: Apple should offer the MacBook Air in the same colors as the iMac. That way, people will actually get these colors in their homes.
