Whats the other big benefit of having an unlocked phone?

See this is the problem that created this mess. You obviously don't need your phone unlocked if you don't even understand the benefits of having it unlocked. So you're calling ATT asking them to unlock and you're not even sure why you need it unlocked.

This type of influx of calls is likely what triggered them to say no more, so the rest of us who really do need unlocks for legitimate purposes get screwed because you're calling asking for an unlock when you have absolutely no use for it.

Wow, after reading this I'm agitated. It's like the people in the jailbreak forums who are complaining about not being able to jailbreak, then the last line of their comment is something like "oh and what is the benefit of jailbreaking again?" ... ugh... shaking my head

Relax. What are you talking about?'!!!. You really think it's people like this that made att stop unlocking?!. What caused att to stop is the 100s of thousands of unlock requests submitted by 3rd party vendors who were selling them for a dollar. I bet people like him don't even make up less than half a percent of people asking for unlocks.

Exactly what he said above.
The first few weeks that the iphone 5S and 5C came out there was thousands and thousands of unlock requests by those 3rd party vendors that caused AT&T's system to crash.
In other words they over did it with all these instant and very cheap unlocks that AT&T decided to put an end to this questionable business of selling AT&T iphone unlocks.

[MOD NOTE]
Looks like this topic has been beaten to death - closing.
