iMessage problems

The sweet thing about iMessage is that it uses your phone # and/or email if you set it up that way. So on the iPad it would be set up through email
 
My wife and I have the latest 5.0 beta 4. I can send imessage's to others on 5.0 but when I set up my wife with her own me address in icluod when I turn on her message and activate it, it gives me an error message that states " check your network connection and try again." this happens if I'm on wifi or 3G. It also gives me this error message when I try and activate her FaceTime as well.

it's probably the same reason why alot of people are having trouble making their iCloud email address their Apple ID login, iCloud's not fully up and running and whilst in beta is prone to having data wiped until it's completed.

simply, until beta is done and we're in GM at least, don't use an iCloud as a username for your Apple ID, for iMessage or for FaceTime.

I think your a 100% correct. I'll just have to wait until the GM is complete. Thanks for the reply.

I had iMessage working perfect on beta 2 so I was confused why it wouldn't work on beta 3/4. I'm not complaining, just searching for possible solutions. If I thought everything would work 100% I wouldn't have installed it. I've tried a ton of stuff, force closing messages after making changes, adding my email into the iMessage info, restarting phone. The only thing I haven't done that I know of is fresh restore. Honestly, I'm not going to fresh restore my phone to install a beta on it. If it doesn't work, whatever I have texting. My friend and I were just anxious to use this new feature and are unable to.

That's weird. mine worked in Beta 3,4 and 5 it broke with 6 and 7

Yes I know it's beta but I haven't seen 1 other person posting an issue about iMessage not working. There are actually many posts of praise. restoring as new is one of the last things I want to do seeing as how I have a ton of app data I'm really not in the mood to lose.

I have jailbroken original IOS 5 final installed on 3GS but imessage not working when i send message to others..but when i send imessage to myself it is sent and received...i have a free US apple account with no CREDIT CARD...is this an account problem or the IOS 5 PROBLEM?

I'm having a similar problem, I'm wondering if you found a solution or if anyone else may have a solution. I installed ios 5 on an iphone 4, go under settings under messages and each time imessage is turned off. I try to click the "learn more" but I cant even click that. I turn imessage on go back. Then eventually hit the home button and send out a text to another phone on ios 5 which is sending messages on imessage just fine and it doesn't work. I then go back into settings and for some reason imessage is turned off. Any ideas? This person doesn't have a mobile me account and when I setup icloud I did use the same email as the apple ID, also they have been able to facetime in the past but she cant anymore. Odd, just wondering if anyone had a similar problem or figured out how to fix this.

Could be a jailbreak problem. My mum has no payment method associated to her apple id and can iMessage fine.

Also, are the people you're messaging running iOS 5 and have iMessage running?
 
i'm also experiencing difficulties with iMessage

it stays at Waiting for activation on 3GS
Mind you i'm hacktivated so i think this has something to do with it not activating

Your problem is different to his, you said your iMessage keeps turning off in settings, he was able to send iMessages to himself which, I'm assuming, you cannot do. I was replying to him not you as I have no idea what's causing your issue, so what I said does not apply to you, just the other guy.

Saying that, have you tried a hard reset?
