To paraphrase, it states that netbooks use relatively less power than full sized laptops and the key difference is size.

There is no requirement that it be an atom chip to be classified as a netbook. Besides, core2duo is relatively less powerful than the core chips which have been out for eternity and a half already

From your own wiki article..

Most netbooks, such as those from Asus, BenQ, Dell, Toshiba, Acer use the Intel Atom notebook processor

:D

Most netbooks

I'll have to edit that wiki to include more recent netbook processors. Sorry I've been busy lately. Nowhere will you find anything that says a netbook isn't a netbook if it has a Core 2 Duo processor.

Now whose the one making **** up?

"LOLOL I'll just edit Wikipedia and it'll be right!"

Perhaps you missed the part about "By definition netbooks accommodate processors with little processing power."

Are you calling the MBA a netbook? Because it's not. It's an ultralight. Do some basic research before you make more of a fool of yourself.

:D Seriously, go bury your head in the sand..

1.6ghz Core 2 Duo is a little processing power compared to a top spec i7 for example. So you're actually arguing my point for me that netbooks are encroaching on Apple's MBP lineup as Apple haven't kept up to date. Also the MBA is 13inch. We're talking about an 11inch netbook.

Zok v technology world..

Stay classy please....

Except that tech advances and what was powerful yesterday may not be today in relation to what is out there. You do realize the core chips have been out forever no?

Once again, a netbook is more dependent on SIZE. the mba has a 13 inch screen hence it is not a netbook. While smaller than a mb, it leaves nearly as large of a footprint and much larger than a "netbook" with a 11inch screen for example

Funny how you're wrong again. Dell/Alienware itself refers to the M11X as a laptop - NOT a netbook. Those are simply some trash advertising links designed to lure people in.

I do realize. This is why we are seeing dual core Atoms nowadays. It's a step up, albeit minor.

Please refer to the second link I posted. It relates to CPU, RAM, and storage, in addition to screen size. The simple fact of the matter is that netbooks are pushing screen size UP nowadays (12" is pretty common now, from sub 10" when they were first released).

Had a look around, seems that Asus, IBM and Samsung also have small Core 2 Duo netbooks on the market. Not even worth arguing about anymore. Technology improves, you'd have to be pretty dense to think that netbook processors in 2000 would be the same in 2010 and the same in 2020 etc etc

Waste of time..

Lol also true deadparrot.

But I will agree with you niuniu in that Apple should do a better job of refreshes - but the Pro line is simply not being encroached by netbooks whatsoever. Other laptops - absolutely.

You're terrible at proving a point. Show me a SINGLE netbook with a Core 2 Duo, more than 2GB of RAM, and a hard disk greater than 250 GB, from any reputable manufacturer. You won't find one. Nice try, but you simply don't know what you're talking about.

Netbooks?

Can someone tell me what netbook and what defines a netbook has to do with MBPs? If you want to get into a pi##ing match find a better place for it. I have read it and one of you is right and one of you is wrong, but you can work that out.

It was mentioned that netbooks were encroaching into MBP territory, when they are, in fact, not. It's been an argument of semantics ever since....

The irony is, that even if he could prove that netbook processors will always have to be Atom based to be a netbook (which is impossible to prove and pointless to argue anyway), he'd still be left with the situation that an 11inch machine encroaches on Apple's current MBP lineup. :D

the term "netbook" is simply a markedting word created to allow for slower and smaller leptops to be sold. You can use the term netbook on any laptop you want as the term have not yet been defined.

an examble of this is lenovo calling their x100e a notebook even though its only 11.6" and have a amd neo (amd atom).

so please stop this useless discussion.

oh and here is the link to the lenovo "laptop":

Ok I missed that post but the answer is no netbooks are not encroaching into MBP territory in my opinion.

Netbook is a loose term, there's no hard and fast definition. The line is blurring between the netbooks and ultraportables and has been for a while. There's no point in arguing about it. The original point stands that an 11 inch laptop using the same generation specs as Apple's main line-up is a little worrying. However, I also agree that just sticking it into the bracket of netbook is a little misleading too. I've read in several articles that price is usually a concern when branding a laptop a netbook.

Also, wikipedia should only very loosly be used as a source anyway, I wouldn't reference from it.

Can't we all just get along??:p

edit: Lol, looks like i missed the previous posts basically saying what I just wrote. Oops...

Apple does not use the WWDC every year to update their computers, we just got lucky last year.

And even if they do, there is a lot more to update- Mini, Mac Pro. Even iMac and MacBook are getting outdated

Jeez, the bloody arguments, a netbook is basically a smaller version of a laptop.. its got a smaller screen, smaller keyboard, most of the times an Atom Processor, can have low harddisk space, and does not have space for storage devices, but there are those that does support SD Cards. I think (not 100% sure, but I am 85% certain) they can be connected to external drives

I think as time goes by the definition of a netbook will change. In a nutshell, a netbook is for really simple basic computing

Are you 12? Learn to read troll.

I may be a troll but you're just plain effing dumb. Can't believe out of 50 million sperms you were the one that made it !

Learn to read what ?? MBP updates are "pointless" ? After 10 months it will be a "minor bump" ? Then they will update again in 2 months ? Is Apple a grocery shop ?? Even monkeys that had brains transplanted with cauliflowers can come up with a better load of rubbish !
