Yes. That's the reason. God, you are SO insightful. Thank you for pointing that out to me.

Why else would you post ANOTHER iPad color thread among the hundreds that already exist. Stating why you like a certain color. Obviously if your spending your time posting a thread on it, your trying to convince yourself.

lol ... Ok you got me ... I was talking White TVs made by brands like Sony and Toshiba

not brands I have never heard of like Favi and Vizio

err, have you not seen any White tvs from samsung? And that's not a puny isolated brand.

People don't want to jump on the white bandwagon due to all their iOS devices they currently own are probably black. Almost like they are subconsciously scared of something different happening.

It's all psychological.

Wrong. The only obvious thing here is your trying to demonstrate your wit -- and failing.

I also remember the white iPhone 3G/3GS selling out faster than the black but that was mainly because there was less stock. The black 3G/3GS ended up being the much bigger seller.

Vizio is pretty popular, actually.

Here is a white Sony, though, to prove you wrong on that one, too:

Here's are white Toshibas, for ***** and giggles:

;)

I see you've been bragging that you've spread the "news" that there are no white LCD TVs all over the forum in different posts. Hopefully I've saved you the trouble of attempting it in another thread lol.

there are zero Televisions that come in White.

Also, there are plenty of laptops with white or silver surrounds of their screens: iBook, Macbook, many generations of Macbook Pro, etc. To the extent that the iPad will be used for computing tasks, it is more similar to laptops than TVs (which are used only for video consumption and maybe gaming).

I think he's pretty much backed into his molehill by now.

I bought white because I thought it looked better. Playing with it doesn't feel any less immersive than iPad 1 did. This is just a thread to say mines better than yours and that's literally it, who cares what color you got.

if you wanted to play that though its worth noting that I think white 3g models came with better screens (according to anandtech anyways) so.. there!

I agree with your insight ... I was suspect on the White for the same reasons.
for instance ... there are zero Televisions that come in White.
I predict that the White iPads will show up in the refurb store first.

You know how dumb you look when you say something like this.

I know 20+ TVs that comes in white. Samsung, bang olufsen etc. High end. Current models. So ye. But hey, you can say what you want, but its just plain wrong, and makes you look dumb ;)

I agree the black is better when the ipad is turned off, but really, who looks at an ipad when its turned off? that just stupid, most of the apps on the ipad, has a white interface, ipod, safari, mail, maps, etc etc etc.

So i think the white looks good.

Also i dont like the op, who says movies will look bad on the white one, when he hasnt seen it for himself, to make a objective statement about this, you really have to try them both. Im getting one in black and one white, so ill see whats best.

But dont say a is better then b before trying them both. That's just stupid.

Even though there are white TV monitors and computer monitors and I fully respect anyone's choice of color, there's no question that a white bezel degrades image quality. Anything that reflects ambient light will reduce the visible contrast of the image. With the iPad I'm guessing most of the time you could just turn up the screen brightness and compensate at the cost of battery life. I am a radiologist where image quality is extremely important and we always sit in dark rooms with black monitors for this reason.

Similarly if giving a presentation where picture quality is important, it is much better to use a black or dark blue/gray background.

I don't hope to prove that black is better than white -- for anyone the aesthetic quality of white could overcome any disadvantage on image quality. But I think it's worth pointing it out so people can make a more fully informed decision.

LOL wrong. Know what's funny? I am a photographer. We have always presented with white mats and white foamcore. I don't know where people get this stuff. I currently have a unibody Macbook Pro 13 inch. Before that, I had a unibody white Macbook. The white Macbook's screen was better BY FAR. It was MUCH more vivid with color. Whether it was due to lack of glass over the display, a "better" LCD panel, or the bezel's color, I can tell you that it being white did NOT degrade color or image quality. If anything, it was better. Thanks.

I stand corrected on the White TVs ... I am hardly trying to "spread the News" about White TVs ... personally I have never seen one or known anyone who has one ... nor have I ever seen the ever popular Vizio TV?

glad to see you are reading my posts though

Vizio TVs are one of Walmart's highest-selling TVs. Walmart is the nation's largest retailer. So yes, they would be "ever popular", nice observation!

I agree with the OPs reasons mainly with watching movies, my GF has the white and it is very distracting. Nothing bothers her though haha.

but maybe you have seen samsung and bang olufsen ;) haha so dumb apple oc *sigh*

No, you are wrong. White is objectively inferior to black by 13.2 points. You will have a significant loss of productivity, yearly income, and coolness. Repent before it is too late.

also i didnt say i think the white looks objective better, i know better to say something is better then another thing, its just a preference. if you watch alot of movies, go with the black, if you just use it for web browsing and mail, the white will actually look better. at least according to gizmodo.

Its not so much an issue of white vs. black, but rather its the ratio between the surrounding bezel to the screen size area. If you remember the 3rd Gen iMacs, the surround on the 17 inch was much more noticeable than on the 24 inch model - well same thing here.

Another example is the MacBook with its grey/white surround. Its not bad, since the ratio between screen and bezel is more favorable to a better looking display.

However, given the huge size of the bezel on the wPad, its really irritating.

It may have been mentioned already but there's a psychological factor here too. When looking at an image in a black frame, the brain will interpret the blacks in the image as slightly gray. When looking at an image in a lighter frame, blacks in the image will appear deeper. That's why big screen TV makers try to minimize the size of the bezel and often use silver or gray instead of deep black.

Now, that being said, I prefer the aesthetics of the black bezel iPad. White looks somehow cheaper or less substantial to my eye.

You know what's funny, I too am a photographer, and I (WE?) use whichever color is APPROPRIATE for the subject matter. If something is mostly white, then white looks fine, if it's mostly black, then black looks fine. This is why people are making the statements about watching video is better on black, websites are better on white.

I saw them today side by side, I couldn't choose. There are advantages to both, and I have to say the white iPad looked more "APPLE". So that persuaded me a bit.
