I’m an indie developer — a computer science and art double-major in my second year at university.

I love dancing, photography, and programming, and I built Imprint to solve a problem I kept running into when sharing my own photos: protecting them quickly and safely without compromising privacy.

Imprint is an on-device image privacy toolkit for Mac. It helps photographers, designers, and creators protect their work — all completely offline.

Great app!
I tried the digital watermark option, but it only worked when the image was saved as png. The one saved as jpg returned “No message found”.

This is actually expected — invisible/digital watermarks can only survive lossless formats like PNG.

When you save as JPG, the compression process slightly changes the pixel data, which destroys the hidden watermark information. This is a limitation of the JPG format itself — it’s theoretically unavoidable.

The app interface also shows a note recommending not to save as JPG when using digital watermarks for this reason.

If you want to preserve the watermark, please export in PNG or other lossless formats.

Maybe you could make the message more clear and bigger. At the moment is: “JPEG may degrade hidden data. Prefer PNG for steganography.

You made the digital watermark a paid feature even for one image. That’s one way to lose users' confidence.
