Can someone please help me to add the OPTIONS back into the dock? I changed the Appearance with the file swapping but now, I can't click on an Icon in the DOCK and get the Menu Options to FORCE QUIT, etc.
Thanks!

How do you do that?

Within that resources folder are 5 png files called "indicator". There is indicator_small, indicator_mediium, and indicator_large, which are the orbs with the reflection.

Then there are 2 files called indicator_medium_simple and indicator_small_simple which are just a plain white circle.

I deleted all 3 files that werent the simple one, then made 2 copies of the medium simple and renamed one indicator_large and the other indicator_medium. Then I copied the indicator_small_simple and renamed it indicator_small.

Last one of the night. Its crap, I dont have the ability to make nice/neat buttons or arrows, Ill leave that to someone else. I took the "user online" button from this forum and used that as my indicator on the rusty metal dock. Possibilities are endless really.

This is really the first visible part of the OS that a user has EVER been able to skin without using 3rd part hack utilities, so let's see some excitement!

Hate to burst your bubble, but Apple has used png and tif images for many parts of the UI for quite a long time. I'm sure that's how many of the 3rd party utilities work. ;)

Heck, just put a picture of your dog on it!

And I did just that when my older machine was running Panther. The grey Apple screen at bootup had his head where the apple went, and here's what my login screen looked like (yeah, his name's Bruno :D):

Ok, this IS the last 2 of the night. These are getting closer to something I might actually use. Both on the brushed metal dock un1ty uploaded. Might actually look better with the black glass look at the beginning of this thread.

for those that like the simple open app indicators, but are also crazy about a graphite appearance (never did like the aqua, it actually looks awkward to me now when I use other people's macs) just grayscale them in and photo app...very simple to do, but the effect is quite nice

p.s. thanks for that

not trying to post pad, but I did have another question...

when does the dock use the other size images? so far I have only replaces scurve-l (as in large) and no matter how I resize the dock, it keeps using the same picture

i even tried adding a bunch of other icons to the dock, but no difference

OK so I tried to do the shelf idea posted earlier. It's not totally perfect, but here is a screenshot.

Ridiculously awesome man! You rock!

I take credit for the idea though! ;)

Is that as high as the back wall can be made?

I made the shelf a little higher. It's still not perfect, but it will do for now. I actually like using it. With some kind of nature background it makes the whole desktop seem kind of zen. I think orange indicator lights would look good as well.

Here are the files in case anybody wants to use it or experiment with it. If you use it post some screenshots!! :)

You rule dude! I was imagining the back of the dock to be higher than the tops of the icons, but it's still mega-awesome the way it is too.

I dub thee King of Dock Mods. :D

Heh.. Unfortunately, I can't make it higher than the icons. The system makes it that particular size and angle. I had to cheat to create that perspective.

Aww, too bad. But still, this is absolutely, without a doubt, the single most awesome OS X Dock that's ever existed on God's green earth. (excluding any unknown docks that never made it out of Apple's labs)

You rule!

EDIT:

and I just looked in your zip file to see what you did to make it looks that way, and I see what you had to do to trick the system into using the proper perspective. You're a friggen genius man!

theese are alll nice themes for docks!! i wonder why apple made it so simple in leopard... i still don't have leopard but when i do, i'll be fooling!! can anyone make a sort of rainbow one, like in the link in the first post?? but then different?
