Best chain burger I can get around here is at Longhorn's, not a drive-through. :)

Fast food restaurant openings crack me up though -- people go nuts for them. A year ago we opened a Sonic in town, first in this general area, and for the first two weeks, especially the first few days, there were so many people we needed cops and special driveway detours to keep the traffic straight. It was only slightly less crazy when they opened an Arthur Treacher's here a couple of months ago.

I have no patience for that silliness. I waited until the tumult died down to try either one of those establishments. Treacher's is okay; Sonic's drinks are good but the burgers were *meh*.

Open one up in Washington state already! In-N-Out's not even across the whole West Coast :(

I don't know anyone that feels In-N-Out makes the best burger overall - but for the price (a cheeseburger, fries, and drink for less than $5), I find the quality hard to beat. Of course a Fudruckers (for example) will have a better burger, but you're also looking at north of ten bucks for your meal.

The people that appreciate In-N-Out are comparing it to the McDonald's or Burger King down the street, not the sit down joint serving Kobe steak burgers for $15 each. ;)

What, no love for Kincaid's? :)

No, I really like Kincaid's! There are only two locations that I know of, one is by my old office before I started working from home, and that's 40 miles from here - so I don't get there very often anymore. :(

In terms of the burger alone, In-N-Out does beat McDonalds and edges out Burger King, in my mind. Their fries leave a LOT to be desired. Animal style makes them much better, but even then I'd still rather have McDonald's fries, Twisted Root's sweet potato chips, Five Guys' cajun fries, or Sonic's tater tots.

You may want to check their website, since it's showing 6 locations now. I've been to the one in Arlington and one of the Ft. Worth locations.

I also love Five Guys cajun fries. They have a great flavor and the spice kind of creeps up on you. And of course, they give you about 5 pounds of the suckers.

Kincaids is a cool place with neat history, but I think their burgers are pretty plain. My idea of a good burger is something with a little flavor in the meat, whether that be marinade, spices, special rub, etc. etc. That's why I think Snuffers is so good. I don't know what they use, but their burgers have a great flavor to them so you don't need to add anything. I'll give In N Out a try when they open the one up that they are building at the Highlands in Arlington. Naturally, I'll wait until all the hype dies down. Sorry, I'm not waiting multiple hours for anyone's food.

Tomorrow, we can have our next lunch meet up at the Heart Attack Grill. That way if either of us goes into cardiac arrest the other will be there to perform CPR. :D

I went to the west coast for the first time this past March and was clamoring for an in-n-out burger since I had heard so much about it. Finally I tried it and while it was pretty good I dont think it was "out of this world best burger ever" like some west coasters make it sound..... in fact I prefer shake shack or five guys here in NYC.

I will be trying this for the first time in September! I can't wait. I am a huge In-N-Out Burger fan thou. We have a Five Guys close by I just haven't made it to it yet.

Always ask for them well done. If you don't you will get them soggy which is just wrong. Love my fries crispy and golden not yellow and soggy. Animal style is ok, but Animal Style and Crispy! A whole new ball game! Just my opinion of course.

Ok, for us Texans who are being introduced to In N Out Burger for the first time would someone please explain this "secret menu" of knowing how to order stuff in different ways, like "animal style" fries. What are the different options and is there a place to look them up? Not only do I want to know how to order, but I want to be one of the "cool kids" too! ;)

To get the animal style fries you have to put your foot under the stall door and tap it three times... no, wait... Wrong code book, sorry. :p

There are lots of combos and special items. Try a 3x3. Tasty!

With no apologies, In-N-Out makes a good fast-food burger (I'd put it on par with Whataburger or Sonic), but it seriously isn't worth waiting in line for. I'd rather eat Five Guys, and there are a TON of burger joints around north Texas that are way better than either place, although they're pretty much local joints.

Ever-so-slightly-off-topic: this place opens in Dallas today. Can't wait to try it!

+1

Missed my chance when living in Dallas to try Wattaburger; but did Sonic on a regular basis. That being said when I am Las Vegas at the Luxor near by, and when in SF and near Fisherman's Warf. Also remembering reading that Barbara Streisand has a guilty pleasure for In-N-Out as well.

Here in the DC area we have some good local places as well... BGR The Burger Joint and thanks to Obama - the now world famous Ray's Hell Burger in Arlington Va (yet to visit :( ).

In the end I like Five Guys since their burgers are the way I grill mine, when doing it without the "extras".

As for the best chain burger joint - nothing beats Five Guys. Just took my future in-laws to Five Guys in Lancaster Pa over Easter weekend. Others rave about Cheeburger Cheeburger (yet another chain coming to Dallas). As for Heart Attack Grill, not sure if they are nothing more than a Hooters that serves burgers - would like to try them only for the novelty.

Order the Shack Stack. It's a burger with a stuffed mushroom on top of it. And they've got some good frozen deserts too.

Shake Shack and Grimaldi's are the two places I always have to hit up when I go to NY

Thanks rhett, I won't be so hard on you in next years fantasy football league. :D

Last year didn't exist. LOL.... It did not I tell you!!! It was all made up. I felt like the NE Patriots.. Undefeated and loose the big game.. ughaghgepaieraekhafpioaeurpa :)

Ok I feel better now.

A 4x4 is also really good!!!! :D

I agree with that. I don't know why they don't put more effort into their fries.

They have, if you put it into perspective..

If you notice, outside of sweet potato fries, mostother burger joints use the same Russet potato for making their fries.

In-n-Out uses Kennebec potatoes, which IMHO are a lot better than the very high starchy Russets, which are used everywhere else. Kennebecs are of much higher quality.
