In-n-Out uses Kennebec potatoes, which IMHO are a lot better than the very high starchy Russets, which are used everywhere else. Kennebecs are of much higher quality.

Interesting! I didn't know that. You're making me want to get some today - I'll also try rhett's suggestion of ordering the fries well done. Mmmmmm!

I don't really get the In-N-Out hype here in Dallas. Drive south to Austin and get a P. Terrys burger. It's essentially the same thing.

in-n-out prides itself on its word-of-mouth advertising. fortunately for them, being based here in socal, they've got quite the celebrity following, which takes word-of-mouth advertising to a whole new level (think cameron diaz saying her favorite fast food is in-n-out on jay leno)... this is what really lends to the hype. true, other places do make better burgers, but in-n-out has created quite a big fanbase (just like apple <gasp>) :)

no fast food burger beats the ones I make myself on my backyard grill :D

If ya want something done right, ya gotta do it yourself!

True, but if anyone suggests putting a pineapple slice or using Ranch salad dressing in a burger....

Sure, the Umami Burger place may make better burgers, but if you want a fast food place, In-N-Out wins hands down. :)

You have to understand that Frisco and Allen are the ultimate in plastic suburbia. Plenty of idiot posers with disposable income for a fast-food burger from a chain of restaurants that has gotten lots of publicity. They will buy what they are told. The best burger joints are not chains - they are usually the mom&pop, whole in the wall places you have to seek out. When you find one of those with a wait to get a seat, you know you are in the right spot. In-and-Out burgers are not bad, but nothing spectacular. Sonics just plain suck. Five Guys are nothing special, I found them dry and boring. Smashburgers are pretty good, I have been back for more. There is a local spot called Burger Guys that is pretty impressive. The first time I went the line was out the door and I had didn't have time to wait. Beck's Prime makes good burgers, but are a bit pricey for what you get. In Texas, if you want just a drive-thru burger, Whataburger is hard to beat.

I like the fast food chain burgers much more than any "mom & pop" burgers I've had, the burgers from those always seem to end up burnt all around the edges and crunchy. I guess some people like that, but I'd rather have a fried non-crispy mystery meat burger from McDonalds over that any day.

and Bniu has the right attitude, I prefer my own burgers over anything the restaurants can make :p

In-N-Out truly makes great fresh tasting burgers but imo the best burgers in
CA and maybe the nation can be found here:

A little on the $$$ side but the best damn burger I have ever eaten.

After looking at the site. I want to try one and they are reasonable close!!!! And that burger, if it looks anything like the picture does not look like fast food!

I tried to stop by both Umami burger and Father's Office on Saturday.

The line at Umami burger was ridiculous. And Father's Office was in happy hour mode because of the game.

I'll try again another day
