What I can't get is why the mods deleted my post...no more profane as the above...and more funny.

Having had In-n-Out, I thought they were good (but that was in the 1980's-1990's and there was little good fast food to compare). However, Five Guys is more substantial, the ingredients are fresher, and they do give you an obscene quantity of fresh-cut fries.

I've had both and I prefer 5 guy's fries and can go either way on the burger. I think the quality of meat is exactly the same, I think 5 guys has slightly thicker patties. In and Out wins in the fries category if you get animal style, all that gunk makes up for what I consider to be lack luster fries.

I can't get in and out so it's 5 guys if I want a half decent fast food burger.

It's early days yet, 6 minutes to be precise, and besides, Lee makes no secret about himself.

He would probably laugh too. :p

And if it's the Juicy Lucy reference, I have had more than a few there.

Juicy Lucy's in North Fort Myers, Florida (FL)
Name: Juicy Lucy's
Street: 70 Pine Island Rd
Postal address: 33903- 3762 North Fort Myers, FL
Phone: (239) 995-6139

I will put up with a lacklustre burger, but NEVER the fries.

in-n-out. i found 5 guys patties to be bland, and something was just off about the buns. funny thing is that i'm not even a big fan of in-n-out.

have you tried in-n-out fries well done? it gives it the crisp the original fries lack. well-done fries animal style ftw.

I voted for In-n-Out not only because they are good, but because of the Secret Menu altogether.

HOWEVER...

Make a trip to Reno, and you'll find a burger that puts those at Five Guys, In-n-Out, and Fuddruckers all to shame: the Awful Awful Burger at Nugget. I'm pretty sure this will be or already has been mentioned on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I haven't seen a chain make that show yet, and if it was good for Fieri, it's definitely good for everyone.

BL.

I've only tried Five Guys, but I love it. On a random side note, I tried a Kobe beef burger today for the first time and it was probably the best burger I've had in a long time.

Speaking of the fries, why are the Five Guys fries so soggy? I've been to about a half dozen FG restaurants and their fries were always soggy. Do some people actually prefer soggy fries over crispy fries?

If you want the best french fries go to Morton's. Best fries I ever had. Coming from fast food though, Ranch 1 had the best fries. I miss Ranch 1. They were actually edible/somewhat healthy for a fast food place.

Sounds like they are cranking them out too quick, on too few friers.

The heat goes down, and good chips go out the window.

You need real heat, sustained.

I have never understood the appeal of In-N-Out. It seems to have a cult like following for anyone from CA, Nevada area

I went and it was nothing special. The menu is bland, and yes, I know all about the secret ordering ways. IMO, In-N-Out is akin to Wendys though maybe a tad better burger wise

Now Five Guys is really good. Their fries and burgers are amazing. That's my opinion for whatever it is worth lol

Only con about 5 guys is it's sorta pricy...looking at like 10 bucks for the fries and burger. For that amt, I'd rather go to say Red Robin and have a gourmet burger

I tried Red Robin once (at Patriot Place in Foxboro, MA) and their burgers had so much salt on them... they rivaled salt cod. Never went back.

I voted In-N-Out, but my heart (and clogged arteries) still belong to the Habit http://www.habitburger.com/. Consistently best darn burger and fries I've ever had. Too bad I'm 3000 miles away...

Also Five Guys' liberal use of peanuts and peanut oil makes it impossible to take the kids (life threatening peanut allergy). At least both they and Chick-Fil-A make it quite clear that that's what they use...

The thing is - In-N-Out isn't necessarily the best burger around. But for a complete meal, including fries and a drink - I don't think anyone else comes close for the price (around only $5).

I am changing my vote to who has the best burger. I can't believe I forgot it because it was literally the best burger I ever had. Gordon Ramsay's Maze Grille has the best hamburger. I was in London back in 2008 and his restaurant was attached to the hotel we stayed at. Best hamburger ever. The ground beef was just top notch in quality and it was cooked perfectly.

I do not doubt this, but the thread is dedicated to the fast-food junkies.

We have one in Whitby, Ontario, Starr Burger, that you have trouble getting in the door.

Another is Webers, on highway 11, just North of Orillia.

But there is only one of each, and that's as it should be.

I've had both, and prefer In-N-Out. There's just something about a Double-Double with grilled onions that's unbeatable. :)

Yep, I agree. My vote goes to In-N-Out.

There's a few reasons additional reasons: first, Five Guys over salts their burgers and their fries are a touch soggy; second, Five Guys is pricier and not significantly better to make it worth the difference.

Of course, there are better burger bars, including the neighborhood Cody's and Joe Mama's, as well as Zinburger all of which serve better burgers than either In-N-Out or Five Guys.

Five Guys is pretty good. Their cajun fries are fantastic, not too many burger joints have sides that can compare to those (although Twisted Root's sweet potato chips are better, IMO). The burgers are a clear notch above the best fast-food burgers, but nothing to write home about.

In-N-Out, to me, is marginally better than Wendy's and about on par with Sonic or Whataburger. Good, but not great. I don't understand the fuss, to be candid. Animal style fries are decent, regular fries are just about so-so.

Aside from Five Guys' cajun fries, there are plenty of other homebrew burger joints around here that beat the pants off both of 'em - Twisted Root being my hands-down favorite.

Five Guys wins just for the malt vinegar they have for your fries. Beats the heck out of ketchup any day.
