I have never understood the appeal of In-N-Out. It seems to have a cult like following for anyone from CA, Nevada area

I went and it was nothing special. The menu is bland, and yes, I know all about the secret ordering ways. IMO, In-N-Out is akin to Wendys though maybe a tad better burger wise

Now Five Guys is really good. Their fries and burgers are amazing. That's my opinion for whatever it is worth lol

Only con about 5 guys is it's sorta pricy...looking at like 10 bucks for the fries and burger. For that amt, I'd rather go to say Red Robin and have a gourmet burger

Red Robin gourmet burger? not exactly, they are disgusting and overpriced.

5 guys all the way

Five Guys wins just for the malt vinegar they have for your fries. Beats the heck out of ketchup any day.

YES. The vinegar is so good on their fries.

I miss five guys, they had it where I went to college but not where I live now, it's definitely the best fast food chain burger I am familiar with.

I've never had 5 Guys but I have had In N Out many, many times. Cheeseburger with grilled onions and a chocolate shake! I can do without the fries.

Maybe after reading post 44 I'll give Gordon Ramsay's Maze grill a shot since this is a lot more local to me than 5 Guys or In N Out now.

Well we don't have any in n outs here but a Five guys just opened up down the street from me (think they're new to this state and I think In N Out isn't even in my state).

Haven't tried either, plan on trying Five Guys. My roommate who travels to California a lot has tried In N Out and really likes it (he wishes there was one here) and I've seen a few customers at my store wearing In N Out t-shirts. Never heard of Five Guys until they opened the store near me. But they had a huge line last Sunday (we decided to wait until they weren't so new and hopefully not so huge lines to try them out).

Personally, I miss The Vortex in Atlanta, Georgia. If you ever go there, read their rules for customers. The basic rundown on the rules is, "We will do our best to make you happy but we won't tolerate asshattery either." But much more funny. Especially if you've worked retail (or had to put up with annoying customers ruining your dining experience).

Yeah, Tommy's is SoCal only. Damn good food though.

On topic: In-N-Out. Dick's is excellent as well but of course that's only in Seattle.

I'm sorry, I really don't get why so many people like Dick's. Been there once and um, totally underwhelmed. And I'm really not that picky. But I'd take McD's (and McD's fries but then I have to admit I find McD's fries crack, but I also kept hearing how good Dick's fries were and they so weren't) over Dick's. That is how underwhelmed I was by that place (really the quality didn't seem that much different than McD's which is why I'm very confused why so many people like the place).

Now, if you are ever in Mill Creek (I think they have a few other local locations too and I think they're trying to become a chain), Blazing Onion makes a really good burger (they also have buffalo and wild boar burgers). Fries are ok but the burgers are just great (and hey, I'm very happy with them cause I left my iPhone there and still managed to get it back, so happy with the staff too).

Agree completely about Dick's! I thought I was the only one.

Well, my roommate is also in that boat. He hates Dick's more than me (as I said, I'm not that picky. I just really don't get why Dick's has the reputation. I'd eat there if some one really wanted to go but it just has me scratching my head why all the commotion).

Maybe the quality varies from store to store?

That'd be sad cause I'm pretty sure we went to the original one. Though, don't remember, that was years ago and we never felt the need to go back (as I said, I didn't hate it so much I wouldn't eat there if some one else really wanted to go but without that I have no motivation to go back. I actually do like McD's better, heh.

But for a good quality "fast food" burger, Blazing Onion rocks (well, not sure they qualify as fast food burger but they claim their goal is to prove you can have a good quality fast food burger. Even go so far as to make sure they are buying their meat from a company that advertises natural beef with no antibiotics or hormones. Not sure they'll be able to do so if they get successful at becoming a franchise though. Pretty quick growing company, only three years old and three locations).
