Last Monday, Apple began offering in-store pickup for online orders of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, despite extreme shortages of the iPhone 5s following its launch the previous Friday. Just a day later, Apple halted the in-store pickup option for the iPhone 5s, perhaps because of the lack of supply.

But in line with a report from late last week, Apple has now resumed in-store pickup for the iPhone 5s, allowing customers to check availability at their local retail stores when placing orders.

Availability remains extremely tight, with very few stores showing any stock of most models. As has been the case since launch, silver and gold models are seeing very limited supplies, but even space gray models remain unavailable for in-store pickup at most locations.

Apple continues to quote "October" shipping estimates for all new online orders in countries where the iPhone 5s has launched, suggesting that the company is still experiencing some uncertainty about how quickly it will be able to meet demand. The first minor expansion in availability of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c is set occur tomorrow when Virgin Mobile USA and a number of regional carriers in the U.S. and Canada are scheduled to begin offering the devices.

Nice. Really wish they would have had better inventory planning and in-store pickup from the get go.

I had ordered a 32gb Space Gray AT&T and fell into the 7-10 group, although I really thought it was going to ship last week but didn't. Happened to be by an Apple Store Saturday and stopped in. They had it in stock. So one of the Sales reps got asked for one from the back and when we had it in hand I went on line and cancelled my order on one of the display MBP. She rang me up and it took a few attempts for it to say I was eligible again for an upgrade, but after a few minutes it went through.

I haven't seen an iPhone 5S or iPhone 5C in "the wild" yet.

Well, penetration isn't quite at the level of all the rest of smartphones combined yet, but they're out there. I have a gold 5S, and while I haven't seen them yet since they live 2 hours away, both my mom and sister got 5Cs. They've sold well over 9 million phones so far, and probably much more than that by now, and while all of them haven't been delivered yet, there's probably at least 5 million new phones in the wild right now.

I've already seen a couple dozen of them here in Tokyo. Today, in fact, I saw a guy in his 80s on the street checking a white 5c. Very cool that Apple tech is being used by not only the "digital" generation, but also by senior citizens!

in-store pickup

This is horrendous. How can Apple sink so low as a company. No iphone 5s in stock. Is it a mythical device???

I picked mine up on the 20th. Stood in line and got myself a 32G Black 5s and got my wife a 5c (she wanted a white one with a pink cover). This past Saturday I took my mother to get her a 5c and the store in her neighborhood still had a line for the 5s. As a matter of fact we had to wait 30 minutes to get someone to help us with the 5c. There are seperate queues for the 5s as compared with all other purchases. When I left, I counted about 20 people still in line for the 5s.

No 5s in anywhere near Indy within 100 miles... Come on Apple!

I'm guessing you need to wait until stores open to get a better idea of inventory. As well as checking later because they get shipments at different times of the day.
I got mine last Monday. I was checking all day and it didn't show they had any until 3pm. Patients young sky walker...

Not mythical... I got mine :)
Patients...you'll have yours soon enough. Don't give up. Keep checking throughout the day. Keep in mind they get shipments at different times through out the day.

I've seen both. At the Galleria Mall in Cambridge, MA there was one guy admiring is freshly purchased iPhone 5S while it was still in its box, cover off; he was going up the escalator while I was on the other side descending. This happen right outside the mall's Apple store. I was a little shocked since it was launch day, 8PM and reports were saying supplies were low everywhere. No more than 5 minutes later, I saw another person playing around with this blue iPhone 5C...

Still impossible to get one in Germany.

Meanwhile, the 5C is shipping "within 24 hours".

where's my 32GB gold?
I've ordered it for more than a week, and still no update

My girlfriend ordered an iPhone 5S Gold 32gb for AT&T (USA) with the order submitted at 12:05am, mere minutes after they started taking preorders.
The current status right now is still in the "Processing" phase, just as it was over a week ago when the order was first placed. No change.

Still says expected delivery of Oct 8-11, so they still have time with free standard shipping, but it is cutting it close. I was hoping it was a safe over-estimate, and it would get delivered early as a nice surprise.
