I got excited today when I got a shipment notice from Apple for one of the 2 I ordered on opening night (10 days ago).

Then I checked tracking and realized it's shipping from China, so it'll be another week+...

It's sort of a let down since I avoided the lines with the last several models and still received them on day 1.

I guess waiting in line is the wave of the future. Think different?

Just curious, where's it shipping to? How many total days of transit?

Yeah that option's not available in Canada because we're too busy selling our Canadian iPhones to the middle east.... :( True story

I picked mine up on the 20th.

Picked up mine on the 20th as well (AT&T Hempstead, NY). Any config I wanted as long as it was 32gb in space gray. Waited maybe 8 mins for my name to be called. I would have preferred gold 32gb but 21-28 bus. day online delay. Extremely happy with mine. Can't see the color with the case (GET A CASE).
Had mine for 10 days: Fingerprint sensor never gets old. Command center LONG overdue; I jailbroke my 4S for those toggles. You will LOVE the 5S, especially if you're coming from a pre5 iPhone.

This is horrendous. How can Apple sink so low as a company. No iphone 5s in stock. Is it a mythical device???

I think they are making it as fast as they can, there's a hugh demand for it.

I'm waiting to get one unlock and with no contract. Hope that wait is not for couple of months.

I love the silly heads who think that Apple messed up the release or otherwise doesn't deliberately create and benefit from not having enough stock.

I picked up a space gray 64gb 5s today using in store pickup from the New York City soho store today. Ordered at 8:45am, got my email that the order was ready for pickup around 1:00pm. Very fast, was in and out of the store within 15 minutes (didn't activate in store). Highly recommended if your color/config is available this way.

Jeez I would love a 32gb space gray. That is the model that was backordered as of a few minutes after I placed my order. And which I am waiting on now.
Funny that Apple itself can not provide me a phone, but all the wireless stores and even Apples own retail stores can.
Lesson learned; never order anything from the Apple store. You will wait until everyone else is helped, then Apple will get around to you.
That may not be true in the broad sense, but that is takeaway that I will remember from this.

Hopefully, they will update inventory at 10pm each night like with the 5.

Looks like they are posting throughout the day as shipments are ready to be sold.

And at least in the LA area, personal pickup is the only way to get a phone. No more walkin checks. Go into store and they just have you do personal pickup on their computers. Probably in part to curb resellers and part to get the account info in easier than those little hand helds.

Did you really just wish they had better inventory planning, then proceed to tell us that their estimate for shipping was likely in fact correct, and that you did you best to screw with Apple's ability to handle inventory planning by making and canceling orders?

What you did likely didn't make any difference to anyone, but still, the principle...

If I had known they would have been readily available at the store I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. They should put a higher priority on those who ordered vs. those who just walk in off the street. I fell into the group that when we clicked to order I was 1-3 days, by the time I had logged on and it verified my eligibility it became 7-10 days.

By canceling I helped everyone else in line behind me to move up one space ;)

got my wife one yesterday by doing instore pickup. the guy said i was lucky to get one. I ordered at 730am. He told me they still had lines every morning to get the phone and sell out daily. I would suggest to check early if you want one.

Which one did you order with in store pickup?

the entitlement is unparalleled.

its a very popular device. it sold million of copies. they dont come out of thin air, and if you were too slow to get one of the first then theres no one to be upset at other than yourself.

Not quite. I was on line seconds after 12:00am PST, was given a shipping date of 9/24, and only late on 9/24 was told that 10/7 was the new date. I wouldn't be mad if they had given me a correct date to begin with, or told me they didn't know. (This is Verizon btw, so I guess confirmed Apple lovers can blame them).

If I didn't own a whole stable of Apple products and like the way they integrate, I would go back to Droid.

i got the white 16gb one. not sure if that one is in as high demand as the others, but my wife has never filled up her phone. He did say I was lucky to get it? i dont know, maybe he was just being nice

I'm kind of stuck in the same situation. I already own a bunch of apple products, so it makes sense for me to stay in their ecosystem.
Otherwise I would be over the wall and on a Samsung.
And I would HAVE a phone by now.

I just bought a 64 Gold AT&T here in Tampa. I checked just 15 mins ago and it was available for in store pick up. I quickly ordered it and got my email saying it was being processed. 15 mins later I got the notification that it was available for in store pickup. I am on my way to see if my Gold is there! :p

I waited all night at the Apple Store in Little Rock AR. At 5am the manager said no silver or gold for verizon. They only got in 2 64GB Gold and 2 64GB Silver both in ATT. Rather than wait for nothing I picked up the 16GB space gray verizon. The Apple employee told me I could swap it within 15 days if I chose, and if they got one that I wanted.

I'm in St. Louis Missouri this week on a business trip and checked the local Apple stores today. Online showed a 32GB Silver Verizon. When I showed up the manager told me the online store was for reserved pick ups only not swaps. I kindly explained that I was told I could swap and I waited all night on launch day and was a very loyal Apple customer.

I got the very last one! The silver is so nice!

Apple wants to keep its loyal customers. No company is perfect, not even Apple. I appreciate what they've done for me this time.

Keep trying everyone!

Looks like Grand Rapids MI. has some 16gb AT&T golds....if anyone is in that area

Stupid question, but how do you get to this information? I cannot find anything in the Apple Store app about in-store pickup. (And when I tried searching for it, it tried to sell me headphones instead.)

Not a stupid question at all. What I did was go to apple.com,select store, then 5S,then color, size and carrier. On the right under the "continue" button it will say "unavailable for in store pick up at (whatever) store". Under that it'll give you a option to select which store you want to pick it up at. Put in your zip code...then it should show every store in your area that may or may not have it.
Apple traditionally updates their store stock at 10pm. I personally have found out that checking through out the day some stores will receive them. I was checking every 15 minutes...lol

I got mine after 3pm two Mondays ago. Once you see they have it available, it's faster to order on the apple store app and then select the store that has it in stock as a option instead of shipping when completing your checkout. Hope I answered your question and good luck :)

I have a question.....when you buy a 5s from the Apple store do you have to activate it through AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint on the spot? The reason I am asking is because my Sprint contract ends on Sunday and I am switching to Verizon but if I get the chance to grab a 5s before Sunday I would like to at least get the phone and then on Monday activate through Verizon. Any help would be appreciated...thanks!
