Shout out to @Altemose for the idea!

INFO:
Alright, so it's about to be 2017. The newest PowerPCs are 12 years old, Leopard is turning 10, and support continues to shrink as the weeks go on. However, there are the brave few who still only have PowerPC Macs, whether it be by choice or because they need to. So I pose a challenge to all forum members who own a PowerPC Mac, use only your PowerPC Mac(s) for one week.

RULES:
1. You cannot use any other computer UNLESS you absolutely have to for school/work (which essentially shows you can't go one week on PPC only).
2. Keep internet usage on your phone/tablet to a bare minimum in order to keep the challenge as close to 2006 as possible.
3. Try to document your experiences with using PowerPC-only either by writing daily updates on this thread or recording and uploading daily videos. (You may use your phone to do this, but if possible, use a camera you can use with your PPC)
(Comment if you think there should be additional rules)

And let's make it clear that failing the challenge because a PowerPC Mac doesn't meet school or work needs, or simply because it's too slow for your usage, is quite alright. The platform undeniably has many limitations, and this helps us discover which are and aren't important in 2017.

I would love to have been able to do this, but I need a laptop for school that has a good enough battery to last me majority of the day... The internet at the school is WPA2 which kills off my TiBook (My favorite laptop to use). I also need to be able to use Google Docs, which PowerPC Macs struggle to do. I have my Mac Pro at my desk now, but I could potentially pull out the G5, but may run into issues with my displays and bluetooth connectivity.

IM IN! PICK ME!! PICK ME! But seriously, this would just be motivation to get a new power adapter for my PowerBook G4. Would my MacMini iTunes server be breaking the rules? :p

I'm going to say no, unless you have to use it for something other than as an iTunes server. If anyone else disagrees with me, free free to comment.

Also, first post is now a Wiki

Replace with a Mac mini G4. Problem solved!
[doublepost=1481835120][/doublepost]Count me in to the challenge, with a G5 Quad replacing my 5K iMac, 15" PowerBook G4 early 2005 replacing my mid 2012 15" MacBook Pro, Mac mini G4 replacing my Mac mini 2012, and 17" pre-iSight iMac G5 replacing my 24" iMac 2006. This should be fun. But I'll definitely need some time to prepare for it.

I'll be out of school until late January, and most things I can do on my iPod touch I usually do on the computer anyway, so I think that means I'm up for the challenge! I'll be using any variety of the many PowerPCs I have, iMac G3s, PowerBook G4 15", and some of my towers. :) I have a few at both parents' houses, so I can make it by I think. :)

I'll even use only my 4th generation iPod classic during the week to make it more authentic. :)

No, it just streams movies with iTunes. And its only ever used to add more movies to it.

I might be game once my DLSD arrives next week. Give me an excuse to use it to its full potential. If I can't do it between that and a G5 Quad nobody can.

Are 68K Macs allowed too? ;)

I'll tentatively sign up! I'll be using my iMac G4 1GHz, on OS X 10.4! May even document it and make a YouTube video...

For the record; that means I will NOT be using;

A Maxed Out 2016 15" MacBook Pro
A homebuilt dual-GPU 8-core Windows PC
My PS4 / iPad / etc.

Hmm. I MIGHT even go so crazy as to limit my music listening to what's on my iTunes library... (which basically WOULD put me in 2006, because I've been pretty much streaming only for years now, haven't bought music in a long time).

Will still have to use my Mac Mini at work. But I suspect I can do a lot of work from home on my iMac G4 if I need to...

Hmm. I'm tempted to be a part of it with my G5 Quad and my iBook G4, so count me in! I may actually pick up a PowerBook rather than the iBook.

The change from: 2015 13" MBA, and my desktop with a 4790k i7, 24GB Ram, Radeon R9 290x, Intel SSD, and that's about it!

This is getting a really big turnout! Glad to see so many people are going to take part in this. Now all we need to do is set a week to do this.

I'll be using my dual 2.3GHz G5 early 05 along side any one of many PPC laptops.

@tevion5 of course 68k is allowed! Makes it even more of a challenge :D

@Goftrey: would it be too much to ask you make a video series on the challenge as another final series for PPC Hub?

@el-John-o: technically, while it may be much more powerful than any other PPC Mac, it's not cheating since it still is a PPC Mac, just a top of the line, beastly one.

Tongue firmly in cheek with that comment! Just kidding.

Regarding the video series; I'd love to see that from @Gotfrey! I have a YouTube channel and will probably document my adventure for that as well.

Yeah, this is going to be my first video series as well. Ive been wanting to get into YouTube for awhile, but couldn't think of any content... speaking of which, I doubt it, but incase anyone does a video and gives me a shoutout for one reason or another, it's Gamer9-4-30, not 9-4-3-0 ;)

Maybe I could convince the iBookGuy/8-BitGuy or ItsMyNaturalColor to do this as well... idk how I would, but that would be fun!

Don't know if it helps you much, but the LINKSYS WPC600N is seen as an AirPort Extreme in the TiBook under Leopard and gives you all the current security and speed you might need with pretty good range. I grabbed one to keep with my 1GHz Ti just in case.

I just went on OWC to buy a brand new IDE 250 gb hard drive, 2 512mb sticks and got a Geforce 4 from Ebay. I feel those using a G5 will have a lot better time than I will on my windtunnel mdd.

Can we do this starting on January 1st and ending on the 7th? I'm gonna need Office 2016 or pages 2016 after that. No choice. But, Id love to film this and I'm in either way.
