I would love to have been able to do this, but I need a laptop for school that has a good enough battery to last me majority of the day... The internet at the school is WPA2 which kills off my TiBook (My favorite laptop to use). I also need to be able to use Google Docs, which PowerPC Macs struggle to do. I have my Mac Pro at my desk now, but I could potentially pull out the G5, but may run into issues with my displays and bluetooth connectivity.

Sad truth. I was barely getting by with Snow Leopard on a 3,1 MacBook last year. Just not do-able here. Sorry Folks. I Wish I could lug around an iBook clamshell but it can't. :(

For the TiBook the Edimax EW-7811un (http://www.edimax-de.eu/edimax/merc...ta/edimax/de/wireless_adapters_n150/ew-7811un) is a great option to connect to WPA2 but speed will be determined by the bottleneck of the USB-port (which is unfortunately slow USB 1.1 with the TiBook). You also won't be able to close the lid completely, as long as the stick is connected. But it't cheap and pretty reliable!
GoogleDocs is more of a problem, especially if it comes to collaborate working. There no way to do that with the TiBook. The alternative is to get a cheap MSOffice '04 (fast) and use webDAV (with "box") to share files between TiBook and MacPro. MS Office'08 also offers the "MS Document Connection": it's a OneDrive-Client for PPC. But no collaborative working too.

Thanks for the link! Google Docs is a huge thing for me, a lot of my school work is done there, I also am on my school's Model United Nations team, and Google Docs is an integral part to the team. I have used my DLSD at school before, but have issues with the battery life.

One thing that is a positive about this challenge is that the set week is one of the weeks I have off from school, so I may be able to do this then

I think Ill try to document this challenge on my blog and on youtube..Hmmm. This should actually be fun

This was included on purpose to give the card added support while installed in the Mac, and it serves no other function. The end of it slots into a metal grove that you'll see when you open up your Power Mac G4.

Still seems a bit overpriced for a 4Ti, but then again it's a rare card and I managed to score one for a decent deal last spring. I assume Mac OS 9 use is important to you, for Mac OS X there are certainly better cards but they don't support acceleration in Mac OS 9.
OS 9 is why I like the G4

I'll be forced to tether with my iPod Touch 4 via PDAnet since I don't have an Ethernet connection where my Mac will be placed nor does it have an Airport card (as of yet) so is it still valid if I rely on tethering from my iPod for internet?

If you would like, I can have a look through my parts closet and see what USB adapters I use on PowerPC Macs running both Tiger and Leopard. I know that the Netgear WNA1000M is one that works well...

Total After everything for this MDD that will be closeted after the challenge

Why will it be closeted? At least you will have fun in the process.

That would be coolio! Might get myself an Airport card if this eMac I'm getting doesn't have one!

I have one that came with my G4 Cube when I bought it off of eBay, the Hawking HWUG1. Works with WPA2, and can be used with Macs and PCs

Keep in mind that with a 700MHz eMac, it will be an original Airport card. These can't connect to WPA2 networks, and if you plan on using OS 9, will not work with WPA networks either

I use the Netgear WG111US and the WNA1000m. The WNA1000m looks much better and has Wireless N 150 Mbps capability, which is a step above the WG111US. However, the WG111US is officially supported under OS X by Netgear, while the WNA1000M works great when you use the chipset driver from Realtek. Netgear does not officially support the WNA1000M on OS X, but it does work great...

I have a Mac Pro and only enough room for 2 Desktop computers using the same three monitors and peripherals. My backup order goes

Mac Pro
MacBook Pro
MSI Aegis
MDD

Pretty much if I ever have to use this mdd for my videography work dogs and cats are living together.

You will have a hard time with your MDD while having that great equippment close by! ;)

I think what we need is people to post which Intel systems they'll be setting aside and which PowerPC(s) will be taking its place. For some of us, this could be a pretty easy week, and others it may be really difficult based on what we all do. I'm still primarily using PowerPC systems, so only a couple machines will be taking a week long sleep.

Late 2007 iMac 20" --> Dual 2.0 G5 with 20" ACD
MacBook Pro CD 15" --> 12" 1.5 and 17" 1.67 PowerBook G4s
Black MacBook --> Probably just going to rest
Late 2007 17" MBP 2.6GHz --> 1GHz TiBook (my out of town setup)

Well then heres my list:
Dell Latitude XT3 setup with monitor --> PowerMac G5
Macbook Air --> PowerBook G4 (if charger come in time for chalenge, if not then theres no portability)
MacMini C2D --> Only used as server for iTunes to Apple TV, the only time ill ever actually "use it" is to import movies and shows encoded with PowerMac G5

My set up:

2012 MacBook Air 13" --> iMac G3s (400-600 MHz), PowerBook G4 15" 1.67 Ghz, MDD 1.25 GHz, B&W G3 300 MHz

I think it'll be interesting! I've done some web browsing on as low as my B&W G3 300 MHz with 256 MB of RAM, so I think I can do this week. :) Gonna try to use a variety of different PPC Macs during the time, see what works and what doesn't on each one.

The G4 may have to answer the call of duty yet!

I might join in with this challenge. I already use a June 2004 Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8GHz every day! I have final cut pro 6.0.6 in the G5 but it is unlicensed sadly :(. Here are some pics of the G5. It runs OS X 10.5.8.

I'll give it a shot for personal use - but for work, I have to use my work-provided Windows 7 system. Normally I do personal browsing on my work machine during work hours - but I'll make sure *ALL* personal stuff is done on a personal PowerPC.

This will be particularly fun to find a way to get Google Docs to work on one of my PPC laptops - I have an all-day gaming session going on Jan 2, and lots of our stuff is done via Google Docs.

I'll try to go as old PPC as possible as often as possible - and as old an OS as possible, too. (Ironically, I just sold my PPC-upgraded PowerBook 520c - but my PCMCIA cage doesn't work with it, so it wouldn't be as useful.)

Tempted to join this challenge but I can't open and edit Adobe CC files using older versions of Adobe Creative Suite, so I'll have to use my MBP to downsave the files I'll be working on. :confused:

I'm joining the challenge! I'll try to fix a G4 but if not I'll use the G5.:apple:

edit: Intel systems I'm putting away for the week.

2011 13" MacBook Pro ----> June 2004 Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8 GHz

Other computers i might use:

2006 iMac Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz (to edit the videos on)

as close to 2006 as possible! :)

I have no choice for my work. But other than that I'm game. It may be hard for me since I don't really have any speed burners (i.e. no G5, no DLSD). I don't have equipment to record video on PPC; I just have an Android 5.1 phone and an iPad. But I will see if I can save files recorded there to FTP or by email attachment to get it on my PPC.

Actually, I wouldn't be doing it with ONE PPC Mac, but with some combination of five in my arsenal:

* PBG4 12" Al 1.33 GHz -- running 10.4.11 and an unsupported 9.2.2, 1.25 GB RAM;
* TiBook 1 GHz, 1 GB RAM, with SSD running 9.2.2, 10.4.11 and 10.5.8;
* G4 Digital Audio with 1.467 GHz CPU upgrade, 1.5 GB RAM, GeForce4 4600Ti graphics and SSD running 9.2.2, 10.4.11 and 10.5.8;
* Pismo G4/550 with 1 GB RAM and an SSD running 9.2.2 and 10.4.11;
* PM 7600 with 1 GHz G4 upgrade (it's on the way, should be getting to play with it in the next few days, until then it has a 400 MHz G4) with 1 GB RAM, Radeon 9200 PCI graphics (128 MB VRAM), SSD and 7200 RPM HDD combining to run six different OS versions (7.6.1, 8.1, 8.6, 9.1, 9.2.2, 10.4.11). This one will need a wireless Ethernet bridge for Internet.

Most likely, the "main" workhorse for this challenge will be the TiBook.

I will have to think about some of the challenges and how to overcome them. With TFF and WebKit (on Leopard machines) I should be able to do almost everything. I don't stream a lot of video on my computers so that might not be a big deal. This would mean going cold turkey off my MMORPGs for a week, though. Hmm.
