what about the sleevecase from http://www.sfbags.com/products/sleevecases/sleevecases.htm?

they are made in the USA, use tough velcro instead of zippers, and are customizable.

Yes, they are the Waterfield, it's been mentioned earlier.
Is it just me or if I choose Apple, than Unibody 15" the page stops loading. I cannot go further unless I fill in the laptop details myself. Isn't it intended to do it automaticly when I choose Apple and Unibody 15?

I like these sleeves, but they calculate like $25 shipping to the Netherlands. That is alot compared to the product price.

Does that to me, too. The sizing actually opened in the same window, and clicking on the correct size didn't do anything, and I had to go back and choose the size from the list. Poor design, or just a bug, I suppose.

Just ordered a Tom Bihn Brain Cell

I just ordered a Vertical Brain Cell by Tom Bihn. Of all the protective cases I've seen reviews for (including the Booq) NO ONE had anything bad to say about the Brain Cell- actually everyone liked the BC the best.

Since I like to roll with my MBP without a hard shell, I need good protection- the BC is where it's at! I'll most likely get the Brain Bag later as well.

Oh yeah! Almost forgot!! IT'S MADE IN THE USA!! Can't beat that!!

Protection wise, you made the right choice.

I ordered the black contour sleeve in a uk store, since they didn't ship to the EU.
Will post my thoughts about them later.

When I got a macbook in 2007, I searched the net for the best protective sleeve, finally deciding on the ZeroShock from Shinza, a Japanese company.

I used it for about 3 years, particularly for DJ gigs, 2 nights a week every week. No scratching and this sleeve has extra polyurethane memory foam built into the sleeve. Not only protecting from cosmetic damage, but insulating the machine from impact. Further, it fits the macbook like a glove, allowing for no chance of slipping and sliding within the sleeve.

I thought that in 3 years time, something better might have come along, and have been on the search again. So far, nothing better than Shinza. I do realize there are more stylish and designer oriented sleeves on the market, but for my dollar, it's all about protection, not flourish of design.

If there is something better along these lines, I would like to know about it. Like many of you, I'm waiting for a laptop that costs over 2 grand, and want the best protection for it when traveling.

CAVEAT: After about 2 years of heavy use, the thing that pulls the zipper - not the zipper itself- came off. In hindsight, I think it was me being rough on it after a long night at the club. Nonetheless, this is the only drawback I can see, and is not enough to keep me from buying one again.

I'm leaning towards the cache but I'm not a huge fan of the color.. (I like my options :p)

Does anyone know of something similar to this?
Don't want anything with a zipper/button and around the $30ish price range.

Yep, the Reversible sleeves from Contour. They have them with extra space to for ipods and stuff see a couple post above with a youtube review. They have a couple colours and it's reversible.

I ordered the Pocket Sleeve from Contour myself since I could't find the right reversible in EU. I ordered it via a uk-webshop, because they only deliver in USA and Canada.

Just got my Pocket Sleeve - exactly what I was looking for, a neoprene case without a zipper except for that pocket opening... and perfect for a totally snug fit. Feels really substantial with my 15" uMBP in it.

I bought the InCase+ Case. I got it at the Apple Store. I had one of the reps give me a MBP to stick into it. He was a bit hesitant to let me do it, and kinda kept his hand on the MBP the whole time.

Nonetheless, the biggest issue I had with it was that the mouth to the bag is quite small relatively speaking. In other words, its really just an opening to slide in your MBP.

If I were in a rush, I could see myself scraping it against the zipper.

That being said, I'd have to be pretty careless to do it. If you are being careful, you should have no problems.

Given what I have said, I will be returning my Incase+ or buying a case of 150 poly foam pouches from Staples Industrial and just slide my MBP in there beforehand.

One of the other issues I am having is that I'm not sure I really need a sleeve AND a bag. I have the Oakley 2.0 messenger bag. I had the 1.0 and loved it. The zipper broke on it and it was just time to get a new bag -- and since I couldnt find a 1.0 bag anywhere, decided I'd just get the 2.0 and see what that's all about.

Well, i was pleasantly surprised to see that the laptop area of the bag is fully padded with microfiber liner. I think the sleeve might be overkill.

I am just really hesitant to put my MBP on anything now. I feel like Mr. Burns in that Simpsons episode when he goes crazy killing germs to the point where he demands Smithers to go for a ride in the Spruce Moose -- a model airplane.

I'm not there yet, but its getting a bit crazy... :)

That's made by Elecom. Looks like a good product. Elecom also makes a lot of good accessories for computers and gadgets.

I like my black contour sleeve.

It's quite snug, but that's okay. It's really snug in my messenger bag, but I am satisfied with this sleeve.

I have had the Incase neoprene sleeve for two months. The inside covering has started pulling away from the neoprene layer around the zipper. Apparently it's just barely glued in. Definitely would not recommend this sleeve!

How about the Moshi Codex?

I already have the Incase Nylon Backpack and Nylon Sleeve for the 17" MBP.
Although they are good products, there seems to be less protection against shock/impact.

How is the Neoprene Sleeve (Plus) compared with the Moshi Codex? If I put the MBP in either of these and then into the Nylon Backpack/Sleeve, will it fit and provide extra protection? I guess one advantage the Codex has is that it provides protection for the MBP while the computer is in use. Another advantage is that it seems to be made of material that has good shock absorption.

Oh well, it seems as though this myth surrounding zippers is never going to go away . That's a shame, as the Incase Neoprene really is a great sleeve, and the zippers do not cause scratches to the MBP.

That was the whole intention in the first place to open this topic. I think there so many mixed reviews, because there are two version and people don't know this.

I think they made the 2nd version (Incase Plus) a bit better to prevent the scratches.

As I've said before, I've had both versions and neither has caused any scratches. It would be difficult to scratch the MBP with either of the cases IMO.

I ordered the Paul Smith sleeve with my brand new MBP 15" a few weeks ago, but after a few days I actually sent it back. For an expensive sleeve like that, I would have thought the quality would have been better, but maybe it's just me... I had a few problems with it; the biggest problem for me was that the corners of the laptop were exposed, which I didn't expect. The button was also a problem because it opened if I held the sleeve upside down and when I took the laptop out, it would touch metal against metal. But the sleeve looks very pretty:)

I really like the red manon sleeve, anyone who reads dutch: can you tell me if they send it to other european countries (Norway)?

Never got a sleeve. Bought 15" Speck case for my uMBP and it has been perfect. It gives me protection during BOTH travel and use, unlike the sleeves that only protect during travel.

What is the point of protecting it during travel and then get it scratched during use...

I read Dutch, but I don't understand even half of it :D Anyway, I went through the buying procedure to see what countries are on the list (France for me):

It is indeed a very strange selection of countries they have. Unfortunately, Norway is not on the list.
