The frost looks nice! Does it stay on pretty securely? How scratchable is it? (I’m spoiled by the magic plastic of my iPhone 3G that seemed untouchable.)

I’m eyeing the iridescent red version. Any photos/reviews of that one? Is the metallic look "all the way through the plastic," or is there a coating that would wear off?

FYI, this video shows the black version, with Smart Cover. Luckily I’m skipping the Smart Cover (I prefer simplicity, not hanging flaps however useful) so the current Feather is fine for me.

My review

I just received my Feather case in Matte Black and here are my first impressions. I ordered it yesterday and it arrived double-packed in bubble mailers today. The case came in another plastic wrap with 2 screen protectors (matte & clear), a good-sized microfiber cloth, and an applicator. The cardboard insert with instructions looks retail quality but the rest is mail kiosk quality.
The Feather grips what little metal edge there is on the front face. It's more soft/flexible than I expected but holds well. The matte surface feels a little more textured than the Smart Cover. I enjoy having the more secure grip on the back of the iPad.
The Smart Cover doesn't grip so well. On bare metal the Smart Cover can hold onto the iPad hanging upside down. With the Feather, the Smart Cover is so loose that when it's folded into a triangle it falls off with one good shake while you hold onto the iPad. It makes propping your iPad up in the upright position impossible. The matte finish gives the bottom edge of the iPad some extra grip in the typing position, but the looseness of the Smart Cover offsets it. Once the new version comes out typing should be much more stable. I haven't decided if I'm going to try to cut the case on the left side in the mean time.
The included matte screen protector is good enough for me. It cuts down on the glare but adds a slight rainbow effect to the display. It's a nice bonus that I'll use until I read more reviews of the SGP & Power Support screen protectors.
Overall I'm happy with the Feather case. I've had matte black cases on my previous iPhones so it meets my expectations. I finally feel like I have a secure grip on my iPad without having to put it into a bulky case. I will still put it into a neoprene sleeve when I need to drop it into a backpack or other bag. The Feather case plus a Smart Cover and a screen protector is as slim as it gets for total (non-drop) coverage that doesn't limit access to any of the iPad's features.

Ok, I'm TOTALLY with sap12690 when they said the Feather is hard to cut. The huge slice on my ring finger knuckle will attest to that. But anyway, since I'm going to replace it anyway once a proper one comes out, I didn't really take the time I should have when cutting it. I just scored it up the side and snapped it off once I got the two shorter cuts made. It's not perfect but it works with my Smart Cover now. :D I'm happy with it. I might get the sandpaper out and clean it up. We'll see. Maybe this weekend.

Functionally speaking, it still holds the iPad securely! That was my one worry. As you can see in the picture, there's not much left holding the iPad but it's just fine.

I might try that but I'm worried about exchanging it when the updated version comes out. Do you think Incipio will exchange it if I "damage" it?

If they have some outlet for refurbs, that might be a problem. I hope they at least recycle them. I suspect they’d be flexible about it, but I’d rather hear that officially before starting to cut!

Just placed an order for the Black One, Thank You UnseenLlama for the link to the case and to 3goldens for the Promo Code :)

FYI, Amazon lists the various colors for $22.74, albeit shipping in “one to three months” estimated. (Just the regular non-Smart Cover version I assume.)

Good news, straight from Incipio:

"Thank you for your reply. If you would like to alter your current feather case, we are more than happy to honor the exchange for the new Smart Cover compatible feather case."

I got this case last week and I love it. The frost still let's you see the :apple: logo and has a great feeling to it, not slippery and not grippy. The screen protectors are impossible to put on, don't even waist your time.

It fits real tight , doesn't add much bulk, and doesn't feel like it's going to scratch the sides when locking in.

The only thing that could make this case better is smart cover comparability.

8/10

Don’t have one yet, but I can say Incipio customer service has been excellent, answering my questions.

FYI: the Smart Cover models will be new, separate models (new SKUs), and the current models will remain available too for non-Smart Cover users. So if you order the current version, no need to fear it will show up with an unwanted Smart Cover cutout.

Also FYI: the red/purple iridescent effect is not painted on, it’s in the plastic, which is opaque.

(Also, it looks like Amazon’s low price has ended. Nice deal while it lasted!)

EDIT: red version is out now, and the coupon code on page 1 ($5.25) worked for me.

For those of you who bought the Incipio Feather, how do you feel about the fact that Incipio left both the top and bottom edges of the iPad 2 fully exposed? I'm considering the Feather, but the exposure really concerns me.

I like that the top/bottom of the feather is exposed like it is. All controls /ports are as accessible as you can get. It works perfectly & what it was designed to do - incredibly thin back scratch protection. That is all this case was designed for.

The case covers the back up to the curvature, so laying it on the backside won't scratch it.

If this bothers you don't buy it. There are other covers like the NGP that completely cover the device while leaving controls/ ports accessible.

If more protection then that is needed buy an otter box.

Geez, ******s are every where. I know I don't have to buy it if it bothers me. That's pretty obvious. I was just trying to get opinions about this from those who already have it.

Typed posts have no tone, and I know it’s easy to imagine one--but I really don’t think Kizmatti was being a jerk at all, just giving honest advice and useful options; s/he was admitting that you may not like what he likes, and suggesting some things that would work for you if so.

For those of you who bought the Incipio Feather, how do you feel about the fact that Incipio left both the top and bottom edges of the iPad 2 fully exposed? I'm considering the Feather, but the exposure really concerns me.

You’ll never have full protection, and I personally mainly just wanted the back protected--because it rests on surfaces. And I wanted all 4 edges protected at least minimally, if I want to stand the iPad up, propped on a table or something. I want it kept out of grit and sticky spills. This does that: even the top/bottom are protected from directly touching the surface, because the Feather’s corners stick out enough.

Now, a clip-on case like this could have parts that stick up to guard the top and bottom even more (some do). But they’d have notches at the corners, and I like the current look better. I also like that it’s (presumably) more compatible with some docks.

P.S., I still don’t have my iPad! But I do have my Feather, in iridescent red, which looks really nice. It changes from a dark grayish-red (at an angle) to deep metallic red (straight-on). It shows fingerprints, but is washable. I got a red Boxwave stylus to (sort of) match.

I bought an Incipio NGP yesterday, to serve as a temporary cover until my Piel Frama is shipped. Incipio is very prompt and the cover will be here tomorrow. My only disappointment is that all the cool colors are gone and black is all that remains in stock, but at least it's a case for the iPad 2.

I'll report how it fits when it gets here

Got my iPad 2, and I really like the red Feather. Snaps on securely—almost like it’s built-in—and it’s very light. (Oh, and I like the iPad too :) )

Question: I’ve heard that it will fit into the new iPad 2 Dock. And I’ve heard that it won’t! Anyone try this? Is it tight enough to put extra force on the connector? Is it harder to get the iPad into the Dock?

Pictures? :)

TIA!

(I’m talking about the non-Smart-Cover Feather. I know Smart Covers are awkward with the Dock.)

Thought I’d follow up on two things:

First, no it won’t fit into the iPad 2 dock. (Fits fine in iCade, though, in both directions.)

Second, mine cracked in multiple places (near the corners) under normal use. Clearly a flaw in the material they chose. There’s a lifetime guarantee, so I hope to get a replacement—but that’s still shipping cost, time with no case while I await the replacement, and in the end, the replacement(s) will probably keep breaking if they don’t change their material. (Googling reveals many similar complaints with the Feather line for various devices, so I’m not optimistic.)

Too bad—I like the look and feel.
