Don't know about the ballistic case, but not sure what the big deal is with the Incipio. The Belkin Essential 050 (AKA Belkin Grip Candy) looks like a better choice for a TPU/Hard Rubber type case.

Incipio NGP Matte Smoke Review (possibly best case)

Don't know about the ballistic case, but not sure what the big deal is with the Incipio. The Belkin Essential 050 (AKA Belkin Grip Candy) looks like a better choice for a TPU/Hard Rubber type case.
Came back to this case
After trying a few other cases including the Magpul Exec Field, I came back to the Incipio NGP translucent mercury case. $20 ea or 2 for $29. Bought a new one in May 2012
It is the best case for my requirements that all my other cases failed to do:
1. Good protection, lay on table is good.
2. Translucent to see back of phone and sides
3. Fits all my docks and third party charging cables in my cars.
4. Can be removed without losing shape.
5. No camera flash interference. They added a black rim around cut out.
6. Mute button has been enlarged for 4S
7. Non slip and lint fingerprint free
8. Snug fit.
9. Many color choices
10. Inexpensive but not cheap.
11. I remove my cases a lot to go naked or use Morhie Juice pack. This case goes on/off easily and never seems to lose shape. Even my year+ old one is still fine. Very important to me.
A few new things since I purchased over a year ago:
1. My original had a brownish grey appearance. In some light is was grey, in others it was brownish. The new one form May 2012 is pure neutral grey.
2. Better cut. The new one is cut better. No unevenness in front lip. Looks a lot better.
3. Larger cut out for mute switch so 4S button is central in opening.
4. Flash was never a problem but they added a black coating on camera opening. Probably meant for light case colors.
This is truely the BEST case for me.

Is the Matt Smoke the same as Translucent Grey then?
