It originally scanned me as a small and that’s what I ended up ordering but subsequent scans showed me as a medium, which makes a lot more sense as I know my head isn’t small lol, unfortunately, since I didn’t do in-store pick up, I ended up ordering a medium band for launch day delivery. Hopefully, Apple will allow us to swap the original ones out and then it’s packaged kind of like an Apple Watch band whereas it’s a separate box within a box. This is why I’m assuming they do want store pick up to be the first option but I have a feeling we will get more information regarding how to swap these headbands out for shipping orders. Either way I didn’t wanna wait to have fun with it. Lol.

PS- my light seal size came out the same every time so at least I didn’t have to purchase an extra one of those, it is what it is, but hopefully Apple will make it easy for the bands that didn’t fit correctly. I think the face scanning algorithm could use a little little bit of work.
Mine came out small and I can probably make that work but if it’s too tight i’ll exchange for a properly sized band. I’m normally medium but in pics my head looks small compared to others.

Tried about 20+ times. I always get the M size for the headbands. However, for the Light Seal size, I get varies of results (33W/35W/25W).

It’s hard to find why it varies. Tried different distances between my face and my phone, different light condition, and the way I rotate my head, but it just makes me confused more.

The first-time scan I got was 35W, which is the one I ordered. I hope it fits.

If not, I hope they have enough backup Light Seals for us to exchange. It is also sold separately, so I am optimistic on that.

Tried several scans with my iPhone 15 Pro Max, in different rooms with different backgrounds and different lighting, and both with and without my glasses on. Going through the pre-order process, the scans always result in S / S / 21W. If I do the scan to measure for the individual head bands and light seal, they always result in M / M / 25W. This is a mess. I'm an average size guy, average size head, so medium makes sense to me. I feel like the small headbands will be way too small. Plus I think it makes sense to have the medium size bands to be able to adjust up/down to share with family members. Has anyone contacted Apple to get their pre-order sizing changed?

I originally ordered a 256 GB, 33W M, delivering in March. Out of curiosity, I tried resizing to see if it was accurate, and I got 512 GB 21W M, for pickup on Feb 3. I pulled the trigger, but now when I check my size, I keep getting 33W. I also have a pretty big head, so I am guessing the 33W is accurate. I really hope the exchange process is seamless, in that they have other sizes readily available for those picking up. Otherwise, are we going to have to order a different size and send back the band that came with the device, dealing with the snug fit in the meantime?

Since store pickup was the "recommended" option upon purchasing, I am assuming Apple is ready for this...

I've done the scan a few times... Sometimes it comes back as 21W and other times as 33W.

I wonder if this is why Apple prefers you pick them up at the store. Maybe they'll do a fitting test and let you swap it out for the correct size if the app sized you incorrectly?

Yes I think the Apple store is better equipped to make sure you get the right sizes.

When I ordered, it chose an Apple store that was in a different county so I chose to have it delivered.

At least we will have 2 weeks to request an exchange of bands & light seals ?

Keep in mind that you need to setup an appointment when picking up your device at the Apple Store. Someone there will help you get your VP ready and make sure it fits you right.

This is probably why you should not preorder online and instead go into the store to get it fit properly but then you're buying this thing in the first place so that says a lot.

I got an M for my first (canceled) order and an S for the second, which I didn't notice until this thread. Apple support said changing the band size would change the delivery date, so I just ordered an extra M in both and will hopefully return whichever fits worse.

Does anyone know if during pickup it doesn't fit correctly, they will swap out the light seal for one that does?

i got size M for my bands, but the light seal, I got a 21W. but now doing the scan post-purchase, I am consistently getting 33W in different rooms, different lighting etc.

Seems like the measuring tool is quite fickle and is going to adversely affect a lot of people's day 1 experience. What a shame. Not surprising, but quite a shame.

I am sure the Apple store employees will exchange and fit you properly.

That's why Apple is spending so much training (2 full days) for selected Apple employees on the AVP.

Face scan initially suggested Medium-sized Bands for me (which is what I ordered with the AVP for delivery), but subsequent scans suggest Small, so I ended up placing a separate order for just the Small-sized Bands. I now have to figure out if I can return the Medium Bands if they're not the right fit.

Wouldn't the larger number actually be for a smaller head because you need more light seal?

ok just chatted witha "vision pro specialist".

She said she knows the fittings may be a little off. So they setup in store assistance with fitting and will swap out any bands or light seals for something that fits you perfectly.

so if you get yours and it doesn't fit, just make an Apple store appointment. Usually that would suck for me since my nearest apple store is 100 miles away. But I acutally am picking mine up during vacation, so I will be staying right next to my pickup store.

I want to avoid the crowds at the Apple Store and so opted for delivery. Hopefully Apple will be lenient with exchanging the Bands and Light Seals.

Yikes, this has me curious. When I did it at 8am it said M/33W. Just now it said S - 21W. That seems vastly different. What I noticed is that it greatly depends on how close you gold the camera to your face.

I got various sizes with multiple scans, and I was given a medium band with a 21W seal most times. I’m 6’6” with a big head and I’m not confident that a medium band is correct. I chatted with a specialist who confirmed that the band and seal can be exchanged for no charge for what ends up being the correct sizes (I’ll go get fitted in a store). I assumed this would be the case, but it was nice to get it in writing in chat.

Mine fitted me as medium which is concerning as I have a long head and wear a size XL or 7 3/4 hat size. I guess we will see. I ordered to pickup in Apple Store instead of shipping. A 90-minute drive for me, but I figured with the size concerns I am better off. I assume the fitting is just a piece that goes to block light on the Vision Pro and the other are based on the two straps. I would assume they can swap out on site.

Try it a third time. I got 21W M/M, then 25W M/M, and third time 21W M/M...so...not really sure how accurate it is 😅

So if I put my hair up I get a 21W and if I let my hair down I get a 33W

lol

sizing issues megathread inbound. there will be people panicking about whether or not they got the right light seal 2 months into their ownership.

So I’ve successfully preordered my Vision Pro and the app fitted me as a medium. After placing my order, I went through the preorder process again just to see how long the dates have slipped. To my surprise, the app fitted me as a small the second time around… Now I’m a bit concerned I may have ordered the wrong size. Has Apple disclosed anything about how they will handle misfittings? I really hope I don’t need to return the entire device altogether if it’s wrong (and potentially wait weeks or months for a new one).
I saw they sell individual light seals, so they may be able to take yours back and exchange it for the right size after an in-store fitting

I tried multiple times with a smaller head and got an S size and 21W. I scanned 4-5 times and got the same size. Weirdly, though, if I go on the Apple Store page and do a light seal scan for "someone else," it gives me 25w, and that's the only place/time it does that. I feel confident in my 21W haha

wait... you are able to change heads? tell us more about this. i'm thinking this would be a great way to be better looking or at least perhaps not so bald.

I'm not getting one at launch but I was curious as to shipping times and saw on my iPad I was seeing a week earlier than on my iPhone (in-store dates are the same). Turns out, the size is different from a 2022 iPad Pro and a 2023 iPhone 15 Pro Max. Both show me as a small (which, yes, obviously), but iPad shows 21w and iPhone 33w. I just did the light seal test and got 25w. I don’t know what those measurements are supposed to mean to figure out which one is more accurate, but given that I’m an adult woman who can wear hats designed for children, I’m inclined to think the smaller number is better, but again, I have no idea what it is signifying.

Frankly, all this has done is confirm to me that I will absolutely not be ordering one of these until I can try it in person. Just as I resent having to order designer clothing in multiple sizes (sadly a requirement because I no longer live in a city with good fashion), I resent preordering a headset that I can’t even get a consistent size determination for and with unclear policies about how light seal swaps happen, especially if I can’t even try the sizing in advance.

At least with the Apple Watch in 2015, I was able to try the watchband before preorders even took place (my fear there was the small wouldn’t be small enough for some of the band - that fear was not misguided as the magnetic bands often don’t get tight enough).

I have a lot of criticisms around this launch but the conflicting info on fit and the inability to even do a size demo before launching preorders is something that feels absolutely insane, especially given the price point.
