Hopefully this will help someone. I had the same issue, and I got InDesign to work.

I'm using a MacBook Pro, and when I installed Leopard, I did a basic upgrade, and not a clean install. I deleted the Adobe folder in HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe, then deleted all the CS3 applications in the Applications folder, and I re-installed the entire CS3 suite from a backup copy of the original CS3 DVD (to see if a non-genuine copy would work, as this has come up recently) and InDesign now works for me.

My friend had this problem with a back up and when he reinstalled it, the crack wasn't working on Leopard. There is a new crack available so we'll see if he can reinstall successfully.

Creative Suite (1)

I have original InDesign CS and other Creative Suite apps (except Photoshop which is CS2). I was about to buy a new powerBook but it looks like I won't be able to run InDesign on Leopard. As I only use it occasionally don't want to spend about £500 to upgrade whole Creative Suite - it is mainly Photoshop I use - maybe I should just stick with my old powerbook.

Has anyone tried older CS versions with Leopard yet?

InDesign DOES work with Leopard. Read my post a few above this one.

I tried the same thing as you did, Nothing changed I still got that message...Wired.

Still won't work. Same error. Bogus.

Obviously there's some sort of intermittent error between Indesign, legit or not, and leopard.

There must be a common factor. Oh well, I'll wait for one of you geniuses to figure it out.

Different CS problem

I have 2xG5 PowerMac that I upgraded to Leopard to see how our machines would behave. I keep all three CS suites on each machine as it can sometimes be beneficial to open files in the version that originally created them.

While all three InDesign versions will open and run, they crash VERY frequently. The same is true for other CS apps, including Acrobat. I won't sewar, but it appears to happen most regularly when we open an save or export dialog. Periodically, they will crash when opening Find Font.

I uninstalled and reinstalled CS3, to no avail (same is true for repairing permissions, booting in safe mode). Any thoughts?

I am having the problem as has been widely reported - InDesign will not open, giving the excuse "Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected... etc".

But in addition to this, when i try to uninstall CS3 by going Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers etc the setup program simply won't open; it asks for a password and then does no more, without giving an explanation. Exactly the same thing happens when i try to run the original CS3 installation setup - i get prompted for a password, i get an 'Initialising Adobe Setup' box which just disappears without an explanation.

I'm on a MacBook, and like everyone else, everything was fine before i upgraded to Leopard, and everything else is still fine apart from InDesign.

I really hope there is a genius out there who can find a solutions to this. The implications of this are huge for me, and i'm sure it's the same story for others. I feel disappointed and let down that Adobe have not even acknowledged there is a problem.

maybe we shouldv started this thread in Adobe's forum and got a bit of consideration.

I found one on the apple page... same problems, no solution.

I downloaded the InDesign 5.0.1 update, thought it could fix it, but doesn't seem to find it "application could not be found" even if i placed it within the package contents of ID!

Thanks for trying this, but this doesn't really tell us if its genuine or not. if you've backed up from an original copy that you already have then you used you're own 'licensed' activation key that you've paid for etc etc and you didn't need a crack or whatever. then this is still genuine... in some way.

So If you did activate your CS3 using a crack, then this tells us that its nothing to do with the products genuine activation.

Thanks.

Version Number

What if your version number doesnt seem to have a build number?

It just says 5.0.1

I ran the adobe updater a couple days ago.. updated everything... this normal?

EDIT: Nevermind, just read part III of that post on the Adobe Blog.

Well CS3 with all of the updates currently available works perfectly for me on both of my clean Leopard installs (MacBook Pro and PowerBook G4) so it's clearly compatible when there aren't any further complications.

What I'd try is running Adobe's CS3 removal script to remove every trace of CS3 on you system, then reinstall, then BEFORE running any apps, run Adobe Updater a few times until all of the updates are applied.

Good luck.

Thanks to all who tried to post fixes to these, tried everything bar a clean install with no luck - any other advice greatly appreciated.

I know someone who was using a version of cs3 that needed to be cracked. Nothing could make indesign work not even after a clean install. That person then got a hold of a volume version that didn't need activiation. Now Indesign works fine.

I am getting the same message, having to quit it, yet it won't re-open. This is bad. I am the only person at work with CS3 and I can't open my files or edit them and the magazine needs to go to print next week. Why is adobe not fixing this?

looks like i might have to downgrade to tiger in the meantime. argh.

Before buying the 10.5, I've asked the guy in the SF Apple store about the compatibility issues between 10.5 and CS3. His answer was: if it's already installed and you're installing 10.5 as an upgrade, everything should work correctly. Otherwise you might have problems (he meant the clean system install with the subsequent install of CS3)... I've done the upgrade -- and all the components of the CS3 are working fine. No problems whatsoever on Intel nor on PPC.

Adobe swears that all the apps (except Acrobat and some video things) are fully compatible with Leopard.

Installed 10.5.1 as an archive and install last night, every component of CS3 is working correctly on my 2.33 MBP as well as QuarkXpress 10.3.1. I have no haxies or other conflicting third-party apps on my MBP.

Faster

On my Macbook Pro 2.33, with 2G of ram, I find that Indesign runs faster and smoother. A necessary upgrade to 10.5
