Exactly. That's why the marketshare of the iPhone is down by over 10% in 2009, 4.5% in Q9/2009 and another 3.6% in Feb 2010. The iPhone market share shrinks but Apple reports that they sell more iPod touch than ever.

From the link:
"The problem isn’t a falling interest in the iPhone, says Quantcast. At 63 percent, the iPhone has the largest piece of the Mobile Web Consumption pie, the firm said. .....“While Apple’s market share continues to decline (remember they’re still gaining the most in absolute mobile web consumption), the competition have a long way to go before there’s a real fight on their hands,” the analysts said Thursday."

It's silly to think the iPhone will maintain mobile web consumption above even 50% as the mobile web booms. You're confusing market share with iPhones sold. aapl's also selling an increasing number of iPhones.

excuses excuses.

it's not Apple's fault Google and T-mobile did not market this product properly.

The Nexus One launch was a FLOP. don't even try to sugar coat it.

IT WAS A FLOP.

What's Apple got to do with it? I'm not making excuses at all. You're working on the assumption that Google was trying to make the iPhone killer. I am not. Only Google knows. If you're correct, they absolutely were a failure and the phone is a flop. If I'm correct, then they're not. Again, only Google knows for sure.

I'm curious what your comments on any thread for the AppleTV would be in regards to its low sales. Was it really just a hobby as Apple claims, or was it a beta test of getting into the media-to-the-television business, and an attempt to show Hollywood a better way to do business? Personally, I think it was a flop, and the "hobby" moniker is just an excuse. I suspect you'll argue differently, since Apple could never be a flop at anything, right? :)

I've just had an interesting thought.

It's good to see that people mock Nokia and Symbian's marketshare for not running on a single device and then to see others wanting to include all manner of iPhone OS based devices in marketshare talk....

Consistency? Not when you have an agenda to push!:apple:

two things, this shows other folks are willing to try an adroid device and two the excuses couldn't come fast enough.

If my work wouldn't busy my chops for using my own personal phone and allow me to modify my data plan, i would pick up a nexus 1 in a heart beat unless the iphone 4g brings a significant upgrade.

The Nexus One's market has opened a little more in the US now. I wonder if it will make a difference?[/QUOTE]

Reading this thread, then viewing your N1 unboxing...I actually feel sorry for you. :(

...you need to write down all your little rules.

Actually, save yourself some trouble. You could show how badass you are with one of these;

Nothing is more hardcore than the Zack Morris phone. Doesn't even have a contact list!

lol remember the phone "briefcase"? I thought I was hot when I had the Motorola Flip-Phone. Wow, how things change.

...but I do admit, technology has negatively impacted our lives with regards to our mental and social well being (which is a completely different topic), and yes, I have been mentally "lazy" with regard to remembering a few phone numbers I use frequently.

Well looks like another article trying to make a mess of things. It leaves out the fact that both the Droid and the iPhone had a much much larger networks when they were released.

Verizon and AT&T are 1 and 2 with a very very distance 3rd being T-Mobile. Nexus one goes on a very distance 3rd place company in the US it sells are going to really suffer because of that fact.

I have a cell phone, and consider myself very lucky to have one. Some people on this earth will never get that chance.

What a silly idea. You actually think technology for the sake of technology makes everyone's life better? Many subsistence societies have been essentially destroyed by the introduction of technology.

Why pay full price for a Nexsus One designed for ATT when you can get a New iPhone in June/July subsidized at $299? You'll be with ATT anyway for 2 years since T mobile 3G is piss/poor.
You must REALLY love the nexsus one.

I am done with Apple and its walled garden. Besides the N1 is way better than the iPhone - multitasking, OLED etc. and it is open. What's not to like? It's even time for me to rethink buying Macs - they are ignoring OSX so much in the whole iPad/Pod/Phone crap - it's sad. (Where is TRIM support, Apple?)

And my company pays the ATT bills on an existing contract - all I need is a phone and N1 fits my bill.

except you can only put like one app on it before it runs out of space for apps. at least i can use my iphone on the NYC subway since it caches a lot of app data

May the farce be with you.

135k? Haha. Another iPhone killer killed. When are these companies going to give up? You can't win. Ever. Quit trying.

That's pure FUD.

Plenty of room for apps on a Nexus One. I've got 97 on mine. And my N1 can actually run lots of them at once.

For the kind of geek who reads these techy forums, you also have the option of running the apps-to-sdcard hack, which gives you all the space you'd ever dream of needing for apps.

Unlike the iPhone OS, Android apps (have the option to) only install the actual app itself in the app directory; data is stored on the sdcard, so each individual app takes up much space on that particular partition than the iPhone, which puts each app and its data in its own walled directory in the application folder. It makes a difference.

58 apps installed currently on my N1 with room to spare. (Yes I know you were exaggerating!) :p

From your page:

The iPhone vision of the mobile Internet’s future omits controversy, sex, and freedom, but includes strict limits on who can know what and who can say what. It’s a sterile Disney-fied walled garden surrounded by sharp-toothed lawyers. The people who create the apps serve at the landlord’s pleasure and fear his anger.

Is Google any different? From what is publicly known regarding Google's practices, does Google not benefit from selling the information obtained from its users? Every time an individual "Google's" something, their info (i.e. name, address, IP address, what they use, search for, etc.) is traded to marketers and other corporations. I don't see Google's practices as any better than Apple's. Also, how is Apple determining what people see on the internet? A walled Disney garden without freedom? Apple doesn't regulate what users view on their devices (aside from Flash based content). Adult oriented sites and the like are more than accessible from Safari on Apple based products. Besides Apple regulating the content on some of their applications (and that's fine, let them, there are still plenty of applications that Apple always that are 18+, but either way it's not my interest to have 18+ applications on my phone), how is Apple establishing a Disney-esque walled garden?

Hey, I like Apple, I ain't lying. I also like Windows, and BOTH are necessary for competition and innovation. I also love to see a third player in the ring, as we've seen with Apple and Microsoft (and in politics) a two party system doesn't benefit anyone, especially when the two parties sometimes agree with each other in order to milk consumers (which has happened in many systems such as electric companies agreeing to raise rates to bilk their customers). However I don't agree that Apple is controlling their devices in a George Orwell-ian type scenario. Apple's admitted control of their products is an established system to ensure their products work well together, resulting in an unparalleled end user experience.

Well, I know Google has at least one new Nexus One buyer as a result of releasing it for AT&T's frequencies. Mine should be here tomorrow ;)
